Flip Flops vs Tennis Shoes

What is your preference to wear at WDW? I prefer tennis shoes at WDW, but someone had a good thought on another thread to pack flip flops in your backpack for when it rains. You can keep those on with your poncho so your tennis shoes do not get wet and you can still keep moving. I am debating about the flip flops and was wondering what was the preference out there especially since flip flops are so "in" right now.

You'd think living in Miami that flip flops would be the way of life for me? No siree! Every other girl loves to go to the clubs, to school, and even to church in flip flops, but not me. I once went in my flip flops to the beach and my feet ached by the end of the day. I'm a sneakers person myself, to the point where my mom begs me to spring from some sandals and whatnot. Now, I admit I do wear sandals when the occasion calls for it, but for the most part I love to wear sneakers. So I guess you can figure out where I'm going with this . I always have worn sneakers to WDW, and yeah I agree that in the rain the squishy, soggy shoes/socks can be a pain. But I'd rather wear the sneakers and just sit somewhere with my family and take them off to air out the socks and sneakers.

In the end it all depends on how you'd feel most comfortable :)

I'm a flip flop nut. No joke. It'll be December in Chicago, and I'll be wearing them if there's no snow. I don't like sneakers. But, I'll have to say, when at WDW, sneaker/tennis shoes are a plus if you're going to be walking around all day. I did tend to wear them a lot when I was a CP, notsomuch when on vacation there.

I wear tennis shoes. I agree about the flip flops being slippery. Just recently my daughter grabbed her sandals/flipflops to wear since it was raining. She was running towards the car as my husband was waiting for us to pick us up at the door. As she got towards the car her sandle was slippery and slipped off her foot from the rain. My husband thought she had gotten in the car but she was reaching for her sandle (under the tire) and he almost ran over her! I screamed and I swear that was the most horrible thing. Now if it's raining she only wears her tennis shoes. I've also practically fallen wearing my sandles in the rain too. It's fine for short distances around water parks, but I wouldn't want to wear them a long ways for a park like MK or one of the others. Hope this helps.

If you wear sandals every day you will be comfortable at Disney. I wear them all the time and I always wear them to the parks with no discomfort. If you are on vacation and wear "flip-flops" maybe a little in summertime or in the past DON'T DO IT!! It stands to reason if you wear them everyday you will be comfortable no matter where you are. I prefer reefs because they are comfortable and have a textured inner sole for traction. Nothing beats the heat like reefs,if your feet are cool you will be too.

i wear flip flops everywhere (mostly because i have to wear combat boots for work.) i have worn flip flops to several theme parks (especially islands of adventure cause everthing gets you wet there). if you do do it, i suggest a set of nice flip flops, ie reef, rainbow etc. another thing is wear them alot before you take them to the park. i know it sounds dumb but they need to be broken in. the last couple of times i've been to disney, i wore tennis shoes and flip flops. when i go again in nov, however, i will be wearing tennis shoes. i have found that my poor heels just can't take any more kamazee stroller attacks from people who are in a bigger rush than me. another problem i've had is people stepping on the back of them causing me to almost fall. however, if you want to pack a set for the rain thats probaby not a bad idea. personally i don't like to carry anything though

hope that helps some.

Yea, I know style and coolness factor, but I never understood flip flops (even sandals) or heels when out where you are doing a lot of walking. Your feet get tired after a long day even with the good support of sneakers.

Then you have the crouds and psycho strollers and wheelchairs...I need all the protection I can get...maybe next time steel tip shoes...

Anyway, if it works for you, go for it...

I have lived at the beach for 20 years, so I am a flip flop fan or barefooting.

When at WDW I prefer the pratical and sensible, well constructed and broken in tennis shoes .

I pack two pair, just in case one pair gets wet. Then there is a day's drying out time! . .

Anytime I will be standing or walking a lot, I wear tennis shoes to save myself the leg aches and back pains. I'm not a young as I once was! :lookaroun

I usually do a little of both. My feet get hot easily and tennies make me uncomfortable. Flip flops can be comfie if you get the right ones. I have a pair of Doc Martins and a pair of Clarks that are great. If you want a really comfortable pair of flip flops, get a pair of Teva sandals. You can find them on Amazon. They are amazing!!

On a side note, does anyone remember when thongs were flip flops not underwear? Am I showing my age?:)

I will only wear flip flops in the summer, and you will never catch me wearing sneakers. I didn't bring a pair of sneakers with me to Disney last August, only a few pair of flip flops. I have to be honest with you, I was in agony every single day. By the 4th day of my trip, my feet were bleeding from the blisters I was getting from all the walking. I tried everything including bandaids, gauze pads, tape, and liquid bandaid but nothing worked. I have scars on my feet still from all the blisters, so I will never go to Disney without a good pair of sneakers again.

I was thinking of packing some sandals for the trip, but I know I will have 1 to two pair of Running shoes. Not that I plan on doing alot of running (some I'm sure) but the extra cushioning will be nice. I bought one pair already and have started breaking them in. The other pair I will probably get later this month. If there is one bit of advice I have really learned on this site, it is have two pairs of shoes when you go and make sure they are broken in so as to avoid blisters.

Now Boxers or briefs. . . ;)

Well, I always pack two pair of good tennis shoes and then I always pack a pair of slip on shoes for the beach, laundry, snackbar etc. My problem isn't the strollers or even the wheelchairs, its the kids whose parents let them use the bars in the line for a jungle gym and end up landing on my feet or kicking the daylights out of my shins ;)

ps lauriebar...maybe its a midwest thing because we still have people call them thongs.

Given my choice I would go barefoot. I never wear shoes unless I have to. I usually wear a good pair of walking shoes (sneaker type) in the parks, but I've also worn my sandles (leather flip flop style). Wore my aqua shoes there in the rain & that worked out well...not slippery like rubber flip flops and the good sneaks stay dry.

I am a sandals person myself and have spent many days in the parks in them. I have high arches so my sandals are bought with respect to comfort not style. I can spend all day in as much comfort as tennis shoes without hot feet. I prefer the sandals from the Walking Co. or Merrills (sp) that I recently bought. Check for the slippery factor though as some do tend to be slick when wet especially the ones with leather. I would definitely break them in before you go. That applies to any new shoes and going to Disney though.

Hey! I'm originally from So. Ill.!! It just cracks me up when I say "I'm buying some new thongs" and people assume I mean my undies.
