Flip Flops vs Tennis Shoes

What is your preference to wear at WDW? I prefer tennis shoes at WDW, but someone had a good thought on another thread to pack flip flops in your backpack for when it rains. You can keep those on with your poncho so your tennis shoes do not get wet and you can still keep moving. I am debating about the flip flops and was wondering what was the preference out there especially since flip flops are so "in" right now.

I'm a flip-flop fan...
sneakers make my feet wicked hott....especially when walking around in the heat for hours!
Heat = sweat...sweat = yellow socks...yellow socks = icky looks from friends :(
I tried the no-sock tip as well...and they just gave my feet and sneakers a funky smell...as i still sweated...I must just be a foot sweater!
I did wear sneakers when I was younger though...I think its good idea for kids!

As for these days...flip flops are the best...I don't reccomend bringing a pair of new ones, a nice broken in pair will do you well, also....the "thong" style can give you blisters....I reccomend this type!

I suggest a sporty style rather than a casual or formal!
Just my opinions though!

Hiking Sandals

My husband & I invested in a nice pair of Hiking Sandals ourselves. They are great to wear in the summer when walking around parks all day and they dry rather quickly if it rains. They also stay on your feet rather well since they strap across the toes and the upper part of your foot. ;) The sole of the sandal is about an inch of that new foamy rubber, so they grip well and are nobby like hiking boots. Great for jetskiing!! :D I hope this helps with your decision. (And yes you can wear jeans and socks with them also and still be comfortable)

Just don't get them caught getting out of the back of a jeep and slice open your leg, ending up in the e.r. for stiches instead of the evening you had planned at ceader point (but what are the chances of that happening twice?)

Sorry, Cindy 71 is my SIL and she did that a few years ago.

But I agree, you can get a good pair of supportive sandels, keep those toosties cool and not have to wear things that flip, flop or go between your toes! :sohappy: :sohappy:

My Two Cents

When I was growing up I always wore sneakers to the parks. My feet were always too hot and I hated it but never went to flip flops because I was warned that I'd get blisters. On one of the more recent familty trips, my sister and I both took the plunge and wore flip flops. I don't think I'll ever wear shoes in the park again. By the middle of that trip, my parents were complaining of blisters and bought Reefs from one of the shops in Adventureland. They wear sandals now too, when we go.

As long as you're used to flip flops and they're good quality, I say wear them. It really made a difference for my family. But I do have one bit of cautionary advice. Make sure the flip flops aren't too broken in. I took a favorite pair down last December and started to get heel pain while walking. When I got home I realized that I had worn the heel part down almost to the sole. It wasn't pleasant walking around in them, but I didn't mind too much given my surroundings. I'd rather limp through the Magic Kingdom then run at home!

You won't find me wearing sandals or flip-flops anywhere. I am a shoe guy all the way.

When I go to the parks, I like to wear a pair of Lugz. Sure, they're big and sorta bulky, but I find them extremely comfortable. I also don't mind wearing your normal Nike-Adidas-Reebok shoe as well.

Nike SHOX

If I don't have to be dressed up for work, you'll only see my feet sporting Nike Shox. They've actually got little shock absorbers in them...and they really do work! You can get them with 4 shox in the back, which are very nice...the back of your feet won't hurt! You can also get full shox, with the shox on the front, back and in between...these are wonderful! I did all four parks in a day and a half last weekend and my feet never started hurting at all...my legs even felt great because there was no stress on them from my feet. They can be a little pricey...the back shox retail around $100 and the full shox retail around $150...but they can be found on sale! I normally pay about half price...but I wouldn't have trouble paying full price...they're sooooo worth it!

I was there last weekend in my flipflops :) Only I wore a new pair of reefs instead of the old stand by normal ones. Mistake. To those of you who know reefs the old school design had a contoured foot patern that literally gave your bare foot traction against the sandal. They abondoned this design for a softer more gummy thicker sandal that is perfectly flat and your foot is supposed to be more comfortable. THESE NEW REEFS ARE TERRIBLE!!!! I formed a blister because of the friction from the movement that now comes with a lack of traction on your sole. I had to wear sneakers the 2nd day...it was weird.
