Flip Flops vs Tennis Shoes

What is your preference to wear at WDW? I prefer tennis shoes at WDW, but someone had a good thought on another thread to pack flip flops in your backpack for when it rains. You can keep those on with your poncho so your tennis shoes do not get wet and you can still keep moving. I am debating about the flip flops and was wondering what was the preference out there especially since flip flops are so "in" right now.

There was another thread not too long ago about this same subject. Personaly I prefer flip flops. But some people with ugly feet should stick to tennis shoes.

Lord in heaven do not get flip flops!! That is the worst thing you could do to your feet. Your feet need comfort and they need support. And can you imagine walking in the rain in flip flops. It's fine for a little while but then try walking all over a park in them. You'll be getting a visit from the blister fairy.

I wore flip-flops a couple of times and always ended up rubbing blisters (even though during the summer ALL I wear is sandals) just all the extra walking and they weren't good enough sandals caused the blisters. Now I wear Birkenstocks though, and those are very comfortable and as long as you've already broken them in, no blisters and no discomfort!

I don't think its one OR the other. I always bring both. I love wearing my birkenstocks (sandal type, not the bostons). They are by far the most comfortable and have NEVER given me blisters. I also have a pair of Teva's that are made for the water. If they get wet, they do not get slippery; they grip the ground really well. But, sometimes, you just want NIKE's! Bring both and you can't go wrong. Just be sure that they fit well. An ill-fit is the biggest cause of blisters.

I wear sandals all summer long, but when it comes to lots of walking and standing on my feet I wear tennis shoes. My feet can get pretty tired and sore in tennis shoes, but I can't imagine how they would feel after a day in the parks in flip flops. Of course this is my preference. If you decide to do the flip flops, I would definately buy a good pair not the $1.99 ones. I have a pair of Speedo Beachcombers that I wear at my daughters swim meets and have never slipped on the wet pool deck.

I used to wear sneakers when visiting the parks and always complained that my feet were hot. Also sometimes also would end up with blisters from the socks when they got wet from rain or sweat. So now I wear sandals. Not flip flops though. I got myself a pair of nike sandals with nylon straps so they wont fall of, and nice supportive thick soles that dont get slippery. (I have twisted my ankle in the past wearing sandals that do not have a slip proof interior). So now my feet are comfortable, a bit more cool and blister free. And if it does rain the sandals will not get ruined and they dry quickly.

While in Hawaii I wore sneakers only for 8 hours while riding down a volcano on a bike. here in NJ when not working i always wear flippers or sandals. But while In Disney no mater how hot or cool it is, I have to wear sneakers. All that walking makes me sweat. especaiily when stadning all day. Thats just em though.

I prefer the ladies to wear high heels. Hey, if Minnie can do it, you should suck it up and do it too!

Flip flops were TONGS in Connecticut while I was growing up.

The ONLY time I EVER wear sneakers in the summer or good weather is when I'm at WDW. I'm ALWAYS wearing flip flops... but I can only imagine the agony of walking all that much with flip flops!! I wouldn't even want to chance it! Sneakers always at Disney!!

Hopefully the flip flop craze will die down sooner than later because there aren't that many people with flat feet. Most people have medium to high arches and don't have totally neutral foot plants.

If you have no idea what i'm talking about, take your favorite pair of sneaks/shoes that you currently wear the most. Put them on a flat plain like a table/desk that you can look at both heels. If your heels are worn more on the interior of the heel then you're an over-pronator. If its worn more on the outsides then you're an under-pronator. This matched with varying arch heights and a pair of flip flops means major problems on down the road.

So like cherrynegra says, our feet need support. Wearing flip flops on the beach, at the pool as they always were is fine. But all the people that have jumped on the flip flop bandwagon as daily wear are in for a sore surprise literally.

I'm an under-pronator with medium arches. I rotate 3 pairs for running, Asics Nimbus6's, Mizuno wave creation's, and Brooks glycerins. So if you're finding you have the same situation check out these pairs, even if you don't run. They're excellent support.

I'd also recommend orthotics which are alternatives to the generic inserts that pairs come with and provide far better support. Sorbothane's ultra soles are good.

i've lived in warm climates all my life (except for now) and i can't stand wearing tennis shoes. when i was down there a few months ago i wore flip flops and sandels almost hte whole trip. i did have to bandage up my toes to cushion my blisters (ouch!) but i was fine by the end of the trip. only wore tennis shoes once. but it is definitely a matter of preference :)

When I saw this thread on the main page I thought it was a political thread, but then I thought...Bush isn't a tennis shoe  :lookaroun Anyway, it's usually a nice broken-in pair of sneakers for me. I went a whole week at Cedar Point earlier this month and they worked great. No blisters and no ridiculously sore feet. My ankles need the support that shoes provide and so do my feet. I sometimes get by in my comfy pair of sandles, but never flip flops. MY feet would be mush by the end of the day if I even attempted that!

I'm in the Tennis Shoes department. I think a good pair of sandals (support on the heals and such) is better for rain than flip-flops. Oh well, your hassle if you like them.
