Fix Toy Story Midway Mania phenomenon

Hey all -

I was out there last week (having a hard time returning to grey cubicle life) and I participated twice in the Hollywood Studios rope drop craze dash to TSMM.

While a cast member was helping me get fast passes I asked her what she knew about how/when the crazy phenomenon would end. Her response was that they thought the new Star Tours would relieve it but it didn't at all.

So my question to you all -- how can Disney fix this? (maybe you don't think it's a problem needing fixing? I do - it's a good ride but it doesn't merit the craze -- the only reason I participate in the rope-drop dash is because it's about the only way to ensure you'll get to ride it at some point during the day).

Personally - I think they ought to find a way to build an identical attraction to help handle the volume like they're doing with Dumbo.

Building a new original E-ticket and another C or D Ticket in DHS should do the trick.

One or two more Pixar based rides will help. Toy Story is such a classic, and it's a great ride for the family. So, to "break up the crowd" you need another ride or two that are family friendly and based on Pixar classics (Cars, Monsters, Inc., The Incredibles)

Exactly, you need another family friendly ride...

Then it would become the mad dash to Monster's Inc. (etc.)!

I agree.

The DS's and I swear we want to do the crazy dash to Soarin' one morning then break off from the herd to sprint towards JII screaming, "Captain EOooooooooo!!!!!!" It'd just be funny. Wonder if anyone would follow. I bet we could do the same for the TSMM herd and break off towards One Man's Dream screaming, "Uncle Waaaaaaalt!!!!!!!"

I think they need 2 more rides - perhaps one as part of the Pixar area - but another elsewhere in the park to help spread crowds out. Most everyone in the park at any given time is on Sunset Boulevard or Pixar Place. That should probably change...

Eliminate fastpasses and institute a single rider line. Problem solved.

TSM actually has an interesting queue area (some of which -- Candyland-- never gets used, for some reason), so FP isn't as necessary there. Sure you'll still have some crowd headed there in the AM, but no so bad, because many will go to get FPs for something else first. And without the FP line, I'd guess the regular line would rarely exceed 50-60 minutes, and maybe not even that much. Out at DCA, there's typically a 30-45 minute wait, and they have no fastpass and virtually nothing to see in the queue once you pass Potato Head 30 seconds into the line.

Single riders are sometimes pulled ahead at TSM now, but there are empty seats that go off all the time...a crime on a ride with that much demand.

If they could fit another ride over in the Star Tours/Streets of America area, that would help spread out crowds, assuming the ride rivals the appeal of TSMM. I don't know where they would find the room, but that would be the best place for a new attraction to help even out crowds across the park.

If they want to pull traffic from that area they'll need to build "family friendly" rides. No thrills, no height requirement, etc...

Sadly that means no coasters, no Indy, nothing adult oriented.

DHS needs to add a Marvel area off of Sunset Boulevard. That would really spread out the park. Probably in the parking lot north of the area near the eatary space.

(yes, I know this wont happen anytime soon because of contractual restrictions)

A new ride is really what studios needs. It'd be great if they could put in a new e-ticket AND a new family-friendly innovative ride but that's a lot to ask for all at once. lol. The main problem with studios is the lack of space. There really isn't a lot of room that isn't already occupied with something. I'd love to see something go next to TSM as well as maybe taking out Sounds Dangerous (it's only open half the year anyway). Or they could use the gigantic lot that is currently occupied by Indy. It's become a bit outdated since Lights, Motors, Action and is such a huge lot. A great sized ride could go there.

Honestly I don't see a huge problem with the "craze" over this ride because it really is extrememly fun but I think FP ruins it... CM's take ALL fastpass before any GA riders. So either eliminate FP for good and make it a single rider line, or find a more efficient mode of integrating lines. When I was there last December, it was aweful. I waited at the gate before the line integration for a good 10 minutes watching 3 sets of all FP holders go ahead of me.

Another problem is people not loading onto the rides efficiently, forcing the ride car to have to stop, thus holding up every car behind it, just because one person was too :veryconfu to get on the ride... Use some common sense people! :hammer:

I agree that the only way to improve TSMM is another blockbuster "family" ride. Toy story is 1 ride, on a very short list of attractions, that myself, my 3yr old, 9yr old and wife can enjoy as a family. Until that changes I see no let up in the wait times.

Bring Crush' Coaster over from Paris.

Then we'll have two rides suffering from great popularity and low capacity. So bring over the new Ratatouille ride they are going to buil in Paris too. :D
