First time staying at a value -- what to expect?

Did some searching but couldn't find too much out. Our situation is this:
We've always stayed at a deluxe for the past 13 years, pretty much every one except contemporary and boardwalk. We're going to fly down for a long weekend in September to take the kids to MNSSHP and decided that we'd go with a value resort to save some money since we're going in a couple weeks and plan to go in December for a longer trip. Now we're not people who stay in the parks from open to close, usually we like to go back to the room around the hottest hours of the day and take a nap and go swimming. At a deluxe (WL or BC) this was quite easy to do and pretty peaceful (not very loud in our rooms or outside of them). Is it unrealistic to think that we'll be able to do the same at ASMO? I'm looking forward to seeing my son's excitement at seeing large Toy Story characters, etc, but have heard some negative thigs about the lack of cleanliness of the rooms and that it's really loud. Any info would be appriciated, thanks!

I would request to be away from the pool. I had a room at Pop once and it was like kids were IN my room. I think if you are away from the pool it should be fine.

You can still take breaks in the afternoons. You will only notice noise if you are on the first floor in any building (from people walking by) or if you are right at the pool.

I think you will definitely be able to go back and enjoy the resort during the day. My son loved whem we stayed at Movies. The pool area is large and their is an arcade right in the lobby. When we stayed there a few years back, they did fun games around the pool in the afternoon. I think you will find that for a short weekend get away, you and your family will enjoy the resort.

Like you, I've done value a few times for a short stay or the first night of a trip. There does appear to be a lot more people at a given time, and rooms are noticably smaller than Mod or Deluxe. Other than that, they meet the need.

I haven't experienced dirty rooms any worse than the other hotels, there are multiple (well used) pools, and the food courts are decent for a drink or quick bite. Noise can be a factor in some locations...but we've had noisy neighbors at Poly and Contemporary as well.

All star resorts do have a bit of a bus challenge early in the day and at park close. Other than that it should be fine. It is kind of neat as you say to walk around the grounds and see all of the giant figures and items used for decoration.

Do not expect the amenities you have a deluxe. The pools are simply that (no slide or towels at them). The noise will be louder, especially if your room overlooks a pool. However, I have never found it to be a problem. BTW, most of the values have really nice arcades too.

I agree with everyone else, you can definitely still go back for naps. I also second that you should request to be away from the pools. If you're really worried about noise, a noisemaker might not be a bad idea.

My kids loved, loved the giant character statues at All Star Movies.:)

In my 26 years I have stayed at every class of resort at WDW. Imho the children will like the themeing of the values the most. My DW and DD are going again this year and are staying at Pop Century again. We have never had a problem with the noise, but that may be due to not being near a pool or having loud neighbors. Out of the 10 resorts I have been lucky enough to stay at I would put POP at the top 3.

We are CBR lovers but are giving Pop a try this coming August. When we were at the CBR in August, 2008, we drove over to Pop to have a look around. While there, we were able to view a room that had been cleaned (but checked out of). It was about the same size as a typical hotel room. We also ate in the food court and the food was good. After walking around a while, we thought about it and decided to book a stay there. We are going into it with the thought that we know it's not going to have as many ammenities, the room is not going to be as large but we'll be fine.

YESSS WE had the same problem. one year we stayed in the 60's and we
could hear kids til 1am. try the 70s if staying at pop.

one day we went back to all star music in the middle of the day for a swim and it was pretty quiet. yes there were kids running around but not as bad as around 6. they also have games and contest for the kids during the day with prizes

ive only ever stayed at values, (asm and asmu) and i love them.i think thats what people think of when they think of disney, big bright clever and fun.
i would like to try a moderate, but coming over from the uk can be expensive so that aint gonna happen. beside im only in my room to sleep, and the resort to maybe have a quick swim.im not one for hanging around the resort all day when theres, better pools (blizzard and typhoon) and all those parks to enjoy.
