No love for Walken?

Eh...Walken's hook looks either like a burnt out backup musician for Willie Nelson, above...

Or Jack Sparrow disguising himself as a geisha, below.

Of all the live-action incarnations of Hook, Dustin Hoffman is the best.

I don't think this has anything at all to do with people getting stupider.

I think it's what happens when old attractions need an update and the question becomes: put the money into maintaining something 25 yrs old and dated, or put the same amount into something fresh?

There's all sorts of people who visit WDW. As a kid, I loved the educational stuff at EPCOT. So did my dad. My mom hated it; so did my sister. Then again, I loved Akershus, but my sister would only eat hotdogs. I'm glad they're keeping 'boring, educational' shows like American Adventure and Reflections of China running.

The American Adventure was so well done, it's almost impossible to just get rid of it or change it significantly. So much money was spent (I believe something like $65m) that Disney is taking its typical stance....run it into the ground. You can see the show has largely gone unchanged since it was created over 30 years ago. (NOT that I have a problem with that...it's a great show, my favorite on property.)

I never want The American Adventure gone, but I'd also like to see it maintained with dignity. I fear that like most of the attractions that were built by the geniuses before Iger, they will be ridden into the ground and not properly updated/maintained.

To tie it back to Maelstrom, I feel like the people who are OK with Frozen are justifiable in their opinion because not a lot was done to enhance, maintain, and keep the old Maelstrom relevant.

Sometimes very little.

"So Ben Franklin also invented the skateboard?" - My father, upon watching AA Frankin scoot across the stage to AA Jefferson's desk while keeping one leg stationary.

EDIT - Give them all the DL Lincoln treatment:

as a Mexican, I was actually disgusted on how little the Mexican aspects were in the spotlight in the epcot ride. It was all characters and a dumb story of donald getting lost.

I was actually embarrassed for the ride and felt like if I was actually Mexican I would be a little PO'd about being portrayed as a stereotype...but I still like it as a way to bide time before my ADR (guilty admission)

The story to the new ride is pretty silly. But given that it features lots of Mexican landmarks, showcases traditions like Día de Muertos and Las Posadas, and uses Disney characters specifically created for Mexico in the first place, I'm not sure why you'd be disgusted.

The old ride had some stereotypes to it, such as venders chasing you down as you passed by trying to sell you something.
that is true but only on very specific towns and areas.
not widespread.

ahem, which characters?
the only one is Panchito.
Jose Carioca is specifically for Brazil.
