Fireworks observations

First of I realize that my trip report was in the wrong place, but we live and learn. First off, Festival in the Sky........ WOW!!! That had to be the most unbelieveable thing I've ever seen at MK, all over the place they were going off and the lights on the castle, then near the end the National Anthem was played and right away I stood up, but sadly a small group of people, mostly teens did not. All I have to say is no matter how you feel about what the deal elsewhere in the world you should stand in respect to your country. Now EPCOT fireworks,   !!!!! Need I say more? It looked as though it was going to rain by the time the show started but 2 rainbows came out and pushed it out. I've never seen it so crowded at WS, but it went off without one thing wrong. SOOOOOO loud SOOOOO, beautiful, nothing could ever out do what we saw. After we waited for at least 30 min before we left for the bus and it was still crowded at all the stops. More later

I believe Disney keeps 4 rainbows on the payroll for just such an emergency!

:ROFLOL:

Glad you liked the fireworks! They are truly a spectacle to behold!

HAPPY INDEPENDENCE DAY!!!

I think there are two probable reasons for this lack of respect.

#1 They're teenagers, who believe that standing for the anthem is "dorky" or authoritarian, so are showing their coolness/rebelliousness by not doing so.

#2 They may not know that they are supposed to do so, or may not recognize the music. I grew up in a generation where we learned and sang patriotic songs on a daily basis from Kindergarten through HS. Since so many of them mention God or battle, I don't think they're being taught anymore.

I myself have heard the anthem "stylized" to the point where I could not immediately recognize it as such. I've been places where if it had not been announced, I would not have known to stand, as it was unrecognizable until well into the song. I was caught once at one venue where they play music constantly, so the fact that music was playing wasn't a clue.

The anthem in this case is just a musical selection as part of the show. It is NOT being played as the National Anthem. To be properly played that way, it is introduced as such, and time is given to properly let people stand or be at attention.

So you might not like it, but they didn't do anything wrong.

1. All too true. Literally half the HS classes I'm in for the start of the day don't stand up unless they're told too; that, or they just keep talking throughout.

2. This one's a bit different for us, I think. Our anthem mentions "God keep our land glorious and free", and that's about it. No real issues there, I guess. I can, however, see that happening with the Star-Spangled Banner/battle issue.

FYI, we've also been taught our anthem since kindergarten. We don't really have a set Pledge of Allegiance that I can remember, though.

Back on the OP topic: I went to Epcot's Independence Day display sometime in '03 or '04. Those things thunder you right to the core.

The way I was brought up, it did not matter how it was played.......... you still should stand.
