That is an easily solved problem, that would not be what is keeping them from developing that site right now.

There's also the added problem of trying to avoid causing problems for the most high traffic area for Cast Members on property.

This of course assuming that they already have an imagineered attraction ready to implement.

Pfft... It's just cast members, who cares if they are displaced... we need our E-ticket and if CM's suffer to bring us enjoyment then so be it... :lookaroun

That ride was my introduction to roller coasters in 2001 (I was sheltered as a child =) Unbelievable.

The Outer Limits (base blue print for Rockin Roller Coaster) was my introduction to upside down coasters at age 15 (1995) Talk about SHOCK!

First time I rode (Outer Limits) Flight of Fear was kinda odd. I had no idea what kind of coaster was in the building. The trains had lap-bars and ankle-bars. I was still in the process of getting settled in my seat when it launched.
Wow. This was several years ago, and they were running NO brakes on the ride. It was like being thrown into a blender. It's much more intense than RnRC....especially when you are half turned sideways in your seat....

Forgive my topic change but I have no frakkin' clue what Pooh's Playful Spot is. I kept assuming it was Ariel's Grotto (which is over 20k's old spot, which I think could go, even though i love char meet and greets). What is it, where is it, and what used to be there?

It's a toddler playground, kinda across from the Pooh ride. It occupies a small portion of the former 20K site. I think the grotto is adjacent to the 20K site and not over it, because unless I am mistaken the grotto was put in before 20K was dismantled. Anyway, it's not clear that the grotto or the playground would have to be removed to use the 20K location. The footprint of the remaining site is still pretty big.

Ariel's Grotto was there before 20K. It may have expanded, but I seem to remember it being the same. It used to be intigrated into the theme of the empty lagoon.

Anyway, Pooh's Playful Spot IS on top of a small part of what was 20K. It's just a little playground area themed off of Owl's tree and Piglett's house or something like that.

Upon basic research to test my own memory, this 2001 map shows the grotto next to the still existent lagoon.

I seem to remember the queue area being character greeting, too.

Don't you mean Ariel's Grotto was there before 20K was dismantled ?

20K was there in 1971, long before Little Mermaid was ever on the drawing boards.

Shows what you know. Ariel's Grotto was there before Walt even bought the land. They built the Kingdom around it. Where do you think they got the idea for the movie?

It's not my fault most people never noticed it.

The map looks so much better with the lagoon on it. And I think Ariel's Grotto fit the area better when there was water adjacent to it.

Oh, when did the sky ride close, because it is still shown on this 2001 map?

Of course Ariel and her pals resided there before the land was purchased. It was said that not only was she the inspiration for the film, but also an Imagineer who helped design Peter Pan's Flight. She honored her timeless beauty by putting a small recreation of herself in Pan's ride at the Mermaid Lagoon scene. Apalled by her egotistical acts (and tired of having to constantly spray her down with water while she worked on the attraction) the other Imagineers decided to condemn her to a life of being stuck in a single place situated near the back of fantasyland for the remainder of her Disney career. This is the real story of "The little Mermaid" (it refers to the punitive actions taken from selfish Ariel literally putting a "little mermaid" into Peter Pan's Flight). Of course Disney recognizing this was "Un-Disneylike" had to revamp the story a little bit in order for it to appeal to families. But I know...I know...

Is there a definitive answer as to whether or not the Ariel in Peter Pan's Flight is intentional, came first, was added later, etc? It's something I've always wondered and as my first trip was 1988 (after the movie was released) and I was you know, two years old, I cannot remember. And my parents can't remember either. I'd love an answer to this one.
So sorry for the off topic.

I probably shouldn't answer this question since I haven't seen Peter Pan in quite some time, but I was TOLD that there's a mermaid in the movie that looks similar to Ariel. This mermaid was recreated for the ride, and then Ariel was roughly modeled after her. Someone else can give you a better answer, I'm sure.

Of course, I'm lying. cb3k gave you the actual story.

I thought Ariel was modelled on Alyssa Milano, or was that just wishful thinking lol

(EDIT: wow, 100 posts in 4 years, that's ridiculous lol. I think I avoid coming on here coz I feel WDW deprived when I'm not waiting for a trip lol)
