EPCOT Figment, well, to be replaced by Figment

Then wouldn't it be better to just get rid of it altogether. Rather than having a version that peels in comparison?

That's why everyone has been agitating for them to overhaul it for years and years. I don't think anyone wants to keep the current version.

Ideally they'd build something impressive that's similar to the original, using both Dreamfinder and Figment, but they need something better there regardless.

That's the million dollar question isn't it? Would you rather have a mediocre Figment attraction, or no attraction at all, and just relegate Figment to a merchandise selling point?

Personally, I shudder to think of them re-interpreting the whole Imagination Pavilion into some new Figment-less IP funhouse.

Sadly, it feels like the talent pool at WDI these days doesn't understand the wit and charm of that character...Perhaps they could get an old-guard Imagineer in to guide the creative process in updating this landmark attraction.
The new guys know the current tech, but the old guys understood wit, charm and storytelling a little better.

because you might lose all mention of figment in a ride, any figment is better than no figment... and in my opinion there is a better chance of a replacement refurb if the ride still exists.. once its gone its prob dead. IF 20,000 was still around we might get an update, if mr toads was still around maybe wed get a refurb... now that those are gone they are out of mind.

You could easily say the same for Horizons.

Wouldn't just about everyone have been happier with a re-imagined spectacular Imagination pavilion with Dreamfinder and Figment instead of a new central spine? Scaled back journey of Water to fit the space between Land and Seas.... A refreshed and restored central core without all the demolition...It would and could have been wonderful... and saved them a lot of money putting it where it matters more.

I know it's not popular, but I'd get rid of it. They could always just give Figment a 3d show next door.

Be careful what you wish for.

People said the same thing about Energy (minus the 3D show part). It wasn't until it was actually removed did people complain and freak out.

Only other difference is energy didn't have a cute purple dragon everybody loves to see.

Do it big and do it right if there are to be any changes...

Disney has had a bad habit of closing things and then just leaving them abandoned.

I'll take this current version of JII over having no Figment in any attraction...until WDI can finally get a proper budget approved to re-do the Imagination Pavilion to something truly special like it once was.

As for the people that waited hours to purchase those popcorn buckets - I was there the day they were released, and I can confirm that Figment has a lot of real fans that went to just get their hands on one for their own collection. Re-sellers buy anything that looks to be a hot commodity, sure, but I can't tell you how many people were dressed in their Figment best that day.

Oh I am sure you are correct, especially the early crowd I am sure was an even mixture of huge fans and Ebayers.. but then as the news spread Ebayers and people who just saw dollar signs added to the mess.

I feel bad for the Figment fans who wanted to get one but didnt expect the hysteria that occurred.

Because to logical minds they should have been able to get one at any time in the day, for the foreseeable future.

But if funko or Splash has taught anybody anything (or even the first day release of 50th merch) this aint logical minds.

Spent this week at Epcot and I definitely feel like something will be changing at Imagination in the near future. Soarin’ merch was heavily featured in the gift shop, the Magic Eye Theater was being used for a Mickey M&G, there are numerous photo installations representing various Pixar films, basically the entire post-show has nothing to do with the actual ride. To me that doesn’t make sense. Certainly Disney knows they could just as easily sell us “retro” JII merch in that location. Why choose not to??

They absolutely should be marketing retro themed merch. My guess as to why they’re not yet though is because they don’t want to give any “false promises” or “false hopes”, considering that I doubt Chapek really wants to restore the ride back to it’s original glory with some modern enhancements (ala Great Moments with Lincoln & DL’s Fantasyland rides) anytime soon.

I get the impression that Disney likes to pretend that 1980s Epcot didn't exist. They love to feature the history of Disneyland/Magic Kingdom attractions, but there's never a mention of any other extinct rides despite a pretty massive interest in them.
