EPCOT Figment, well, to be replaced by Figment

Oh they will still love Figment, they will just be too old to go to the parks....
I don’t know that there’s a point when people are too old to go to the parks. I’ve seen so many grandparents riding around those parks on ECVS. People up into their 90s go to those parks. Even if they can’t ride Guardians anymore, I’m sure they’d make a visit to see a new Figment attraction. Heck, they already do for significantly less (say, a popcorn bucket for instance).

Y'all are in need of a serious reality check if you think Bob Iger, leader of one of the world's biggest media empires, is at all thinking about how a change to a niche theme park attraction could impact his legacy. What good would it do? A few thousand nerds would hate him a little less? His legacy in the parks is cemented in the IPs he oversaw being developed or acquired. He doesn't care about Figment I promise lol
The Figment comic doing well was the one time Bob Iger has ever acknowledged a specific comic book released by Marvel. Of course it didn't inspire him to actually do anything meaningful with Figment after that since he sees JIIWF as "Mission Accomplished", but it's interesting that he cared more about that tie-in then anything going on in the hot mess that is the publishing side of one of his big purchases.

Yearly figment popcorn bucket key jingling!

All I think when I watch this video is how much I want them to change out that sign in the background. If they’re not going to replace the ride, at least replace the temporary looking banner sign that’s been there for 20 years with a permanent professional looking sign

Well originally there was no banner or even a sign in that spot, only the large main one. Such simpler times

I think they are trying to make it look like a demonstration is going on inside in a event center. Not saying its good but I assume that is the thought behind it.

Yes - that was the story behind the banners, and I would have to guess it was a lower-budget option given the circumstances of JIYI to JIIwF. The concept isn't a bad idea. But, I agree they should have some other type of sign - even an Imagination Institute sign - to add more draw to the entrance. (The banners could stay if they wanted to show the "open house".)

Basically, just moving the banners that are indoors to the outside..

Yes. As much as I'd like it to go away, I always thought a bronze version of the Institute sign on the side of the building with a glowing light bulb (which, naturally, features a Figment every now and then) would be a cool way to mark the entrance.

Otherwise, the Institute feels more like an unmarked CIA operation... Hiding in plain sight... wait a minute...

They could have repurposed the old sign from DL..

Mirroring a post I put up on the rumor tracker thread (that I mistakenly thought was this thread, whoops). That permit from last year was to build a new break room upstairs.
In case it never got put up here, this permit was to convert some upstairs space (specifically the old Vibrating Mirror room which has been closed since the early ‘90s) into a new cast break room. The project has finished and none of the rest of the Image Works was impacted. The new break room is behind where the rainbow corridor used to be and beside where Mirage used to be, that little corner of the second floor.

I'm sure i've already said this before, but still. I'm afraid that they'll wreck Figment with a refurbishment. And you might think, "you're crazy!" But just thinking of the current situation of the parks now, it really has me nervous. This update (if it ever happens) could just be pretty mediocre or a trainwreck. I think, though, that this is harshly reflected by my age. I'm only 22 years old, so I never got to ride the pre-1998 Figment and as a result, I have a soft spot for the 2002 ride. I know the original is 10x better but we're never going to get the original ride back.

On the other hand, the 2002 ride is a fossil and you can immediately tell it was made in 2002. The CGI for Figment looks so dated (even Waldo from Muppet Vision shockingly looks less dated/cheap, and that show came out 9 years prior to the current Figment ride). I'm not sure what i'd prefer. If it was a possibility, bringing the 1983 version back would be wonderful. But there's no chance in any universe where that'll happen.

We're already in 2025. I'm starting to convince myself they'll never refurb the 2002 ride in my lifetime. We're 5 years away from 2030, and thinking about riding the 2002 Imagination in the 2030s would blow my mind. Riding the Eric Idle Figment in like 2033 with my Zak and Wheezie plush as a 31 year old grown man would be a surreal experience.

Think about this: they're getting rid of Muppet-Vision 3D before Figment. Muppet-Vision. Not trying to redo Figment, nope, let's get rid of Muppet-Vision. Instead of trying to fix a ride largely seen as mediocre, they're closing something that needed no replacement and should've never been closed. Someone might argue that Muppet-Vision was also unpopular and barely anyone rode it. Do you really think that Figment is more popular and deserves to last longer than Muppet-Vision?! Hell no. There was nothing wrong with Muppet-Vision. It is timeless and will always be a classic, up with Spaceship Earth and the Carousel of Progress as one of the greatest attractions in WDW history. Every joke lands, the effects are still great, and IMO is a top 3 WDW ride. Do you have anyone saying that Figment is the best ride ever? I doubt even many kids are saying that, given that 80% of the time the ride is a walk-on; it just isn't popular anymore. Muppet-Vision is. I can't remember any point where I myself got a "walk-on" for Muppet-Vision.

And when I heard that Muppet-Vision was being closed, right after Rivers of America was being closed and Tom Sawyer Island was being closed, after Splash Mountain closing, maybe even after Dinosaur closing... it was at that point, seeing them saying they'll close Muppet-Vision, after thinking while typing this all out, that I realize, "nope, they're never gonna do anything with Figment." That was it. Figment will never be updated. It'll always be in it's current state.

As I began writing more of this and just thinking of everything we thought would never go, be replaced, I ended with "well they're never gonna do anything with Figment".

I wanted Casey from Pokemon to return and reunite with Ash. Didn't happen. I wanted Figment to return to it's former glory. Didn't happen. And yet, all the bad things seem to happen.

At this point all I can say is...

SONY PLZ REBOOT DRAGON TALEZ (didn't happen)

Just anything for Figment to be cool again PLEAAAASEE

I don't know what to say, i'm so conflicted now, thinking "I want Figment to be refurbished" but then later thinking "no they'll ruin it and I still like the 2002 ride so don't update it".
