Rumor Figment, well, to be replaced by Figment

To be fair the 15 year old did just get the refurbishment right and some other stuff. I guess we'll hear out the 15 year old in this case?

I'm admittedly having a hard time believing it but like... I'll hear it out.

Didn't you hear? The rumor mill says Galaxy's Edge is becoming EO LAND!
Featuring

Patrol Ship Trench Run
Rise of The Resistance (the stormtroopers are backup dancers now)
Hooters Cantina
Major and Minor Domo’s Droid Factory
Fuzzball’s Creature Stall

We'll get a Dragon Tales reboot before we get a new Figment ride. We might even get Half-Life 3 before a new Figment ride.

Disney does literally everything they can to reference Dreamfinder and the old ride, they will do literally everything except doing the one thing that'd make the Gen X folks (and Millennial folks born pre-1992) happy: giving Figment a new ride and bringing back the Dreamfinder.

we haven’t gotten a new JII because they’re too scared about losing their precious pennies. That’s why they only give us cheap references.

They'll only redo it if they can find an excuse to slap an IP on it. Granted, an Inside Out and Figment crossover could be really good (just need to have the Dreamfinder), but i'm not getting my hopes up. This third version is older than I am. It's 22 years old. There are 25 year old adults who only remember the third version. Dreamfinder (fan favorite) isn't there, the ride has tons of technical issues, and the CGI wouldn't have been acceptable in 2010, let alone 2024.

For what it's worth, I don't hate the third version of the ride. It's definitely not on the level of the original, but I do still ride it quite often at my visits, mainly because i've always loved Figment, since I was a little boy. I still adore Figment, even the mischievous one we have now, and I find Eric Idle's performance to be excellent as Nigel Channing. His and Figment's dynamic also reminds me of Zak and Wheezie from, well, Dragon Tales (Nigel and Zak like things boring and mundane, Figment and Wheezie are wild and fun and imaginative). I'd be fine if it didn't exist and the original was still there but I do have a soft spot for the '02 ride.

They're not going to do inside out. Pete doctor had already shot that Idea down. Plus if inside out was really on the table, they would've done it by now. This isn't fact since this is just my reasoning, but I wouldn't expect a redone imagination to have an IP on it. I feel like Disney with imagination is like a procrastinating school student. They know they have to do it, they just don't want to, and so they keep pushing it back. Although I cant see them pushing it past Epcot's 50th. Its been long enough.

Soon enough most of the 30/40 somethings will have no clue who Dreamfinder is and only people in their 50s and 60s will know him. People born in the mid-90s (first group to likely have no memory of the Dreamfinder or original attraction) are already very close to being 30; most people under 30 probably are more familiar with Dr. Nigel Channing than Dreamfinder. This begs the question of, if they'll even bring him back for more than a rather short cameo. Nigel definitely won't because he's from another attraction that isn't even there anymore (Honey I Shrunk The Audience) and isn't even in the original movie.

Gotta admit there sure is a lot of really unwarranted doom and gloom about what may or may not happen in a project that is at least another five years out. Plenty of people who never rode the original ride know who Dreamfinder is, and even if they didn't a new ride will introduce them to him. We have no reason to believe they won't do it right if they ever get around to it.

I dunno, it just feels like they've been doing this for ages. I hope Disney will eventually do something but I feel like it's not much of a priority for them. Cause Gen Alpha (born 2013+) adore Figment and the ride. So they just don't feel that motivated to do a rework of the ride. Not to mention it'd cost far more money to refurb the ride and for some reason they refuse to spend the money to redo it. There has never been a ride more in need of a makeover since Figment. It should've been reworked 10 years ago.

The one bright spot I think, is that Figment has finally returned as a meet-and-greet character which makes me so happy. So that does give me some hope, that Imagineers are brainstorming ideas for a new Figment ride, with the return of the Dreamfinder.

I dunno, I just don't know him, if you know what I mean. I don't have the same attachment to Dreamfinder than, let's say, my mom born in 1970 would have had, because I have never experienced it, and actually seen Dreamfinder myself. I know that sounds weird, but it's definitely not the same watching VHS recordings of it.

Disney KNOWS how popular figment is. And I'm certain they know how much people love the original and how much people want a new version of this ride. I think that the reason that Disney hasn't done an update is because they don't know how well a ride like JII can appeal to the average tourist and therefore don't want to risk putting millions of dollars into it. The logic the execs use for creating IP based rides over original IP based rides is the same logic that has resulted in the abundance of Disney sequels. (just look at this year's D23) However if enough demand is there they will do it. And if the figment movie that is supposedly in development is a hit and puts figment in the public eye, I'm certain the ride will be updated. I think this might be Disney's plan.

I'm hoping the movie does numbers. It's rumored to be a Disney+ release but you never know. Just hope it's good.

The demand has been there for any of the people who have ridden the old ride. But Disney doesn't want to put the money forward yet.

I'm sure COVID-19 also played a factor in Figment not getting a rework; Spaceship Earth was going to get a refurbishment, but it got cancelled. But at least Spaceship Earth got the news of a refurbishment; Figment never even got that sadly. Hopefully, the pieces will come together to imagine a great big beautiful tomorrow for Figment and Dreamfinder.

Is the movie still happening? I thought a lot of the parks movies got put on hold (i.e., cancelled)

I've never seen a purple dragon,
and I've never been one,
but if I had my druthers
I'd rather see, than be one.
If there can be a Harold and The Purple Crayon movie and a Lyle Lyle Crocodile movie, there can be a Figment movie. And if there can be a Figment movie, there can be a Dragon Tales movie. I want us dragon fans to live in harmony. In the year 1999, Figment and Dreamfinder effectively died while Dragon Tales came out and went big, in the same part of the year too (fall 1999). June 2002, Figment came back but Dreamfinder was gone still. And Dragon Tales was at it's peak in the months following 9/11 up to 2004 where Dragon Tales had 11 million viewers weekly. Kodak pulled sponsorship in August 2010, and Dragon Tales stopped airing that same month. But then right after that Figment and Dreamfinder started getting love from Disney and they started acknowledging him again. It seems like if Figment is popular, Dragon Tales can't, and if Dragon Tales is popular, Figment can't.

My main point is, I wish I wish with all my heart, to see them both popular, not falling apart. I should probably talk about this in a specific thread for it but oh well.
