Fifth Gate rumor

This whole crime rate thing is the biggest bag of _____ I have ever heard of in my life. It makes no difference where you rank on the "crime list." I frequent the St. Louis area, and they recently came in at NUMBER 1. Yet, it is perfectly safe to walk around in the downtown area.

Also, the "crime rate" for Orlando HAS NOTHING TO DO WITH CRIME IN ANY OF THE SURROUNDING SUBURBS. Let's stop confusing Orlando with every other smaller city that surrounds it. Especially places like Lake Buena Vista, that are nealry 30 MILES FROM ORLANDO.

Geez, has anyone here ever seen a map?

THANK YOU, THANK YOU, THANK YOU!!!!!!!! My point exactly!!!! Unfortunately the person that I was responding to seems to want Orlando to be frozen in time as to the days where he stayed in that Holiday Mall (wherever that is and if it is where I think then stay away from OBT...there are hookers there). Again it's all growing pains and does not necessarily represent the entire Central Florida area

Also who said that Disney is loosing in attendance?? I believe that Disney and SeaWorld are the two parks that have seen attendance increases in the Central Florida area while Universal and Holy Land (if you call that a park) have been having somewhat attendance struggles.

Plain and simple fact is this, The higher crime rates rising over the past few years here in Orlando as with anywhere else is being committed 90% of the time by either Juvenile's or those in their early 20's with records ten miles long. For example Just last week here a 15 year old was arrested for stealing a old Lynx transit bus,and driving around picking up passengers. The kid did it once before this year and laughed like it was a big joke. His father asked the police to keep him locked up, because he can't control the kid. He said the boy keeps getting in trouble and the keep sending him home. The police even admitted the the kid had a record starting from when he was 9 years old!! that ranged from petty theft to armed robbery. It boils down to either bad parenting, or in this fathers case as he put it, "Being afraid to discipline my child without someone calling me in for abuse." Sorry folks but I'M in my mid 30's and if I got out of line,my parents beat my behind, and you know what I turned out just fine. I know a couple of retired officers, and they laugh and remember the days when it was worse to bring the child home to the parents, because the kids knew the were goinna get a butt whoopin. One of them even had a kid beg him to not take him home because he swore his mommy was going to kill him,and then so was his dad would when he got home!:D

When Walt first picked the area of land for Walt Disney World, he wanted an area that wasn't like Los Angelees. He didn't want the "magic" that was Disney to be destroyed by the surrounding area. Unfortunately, the success of Disney has led to a deterioration of the surrounding area. I have never felt unsafe on Disney property, but there are parts of the surrounding area that are less then desireable at night. Disney creates so much revenue for the surrounding area that it should be up to the city and state to help control the crime in the area. With that said, any area of large tourism is going to encounter crime - that's human nature. It sucks, but it's true.

We had a person get shot right outside our hotel two trips ago.. and it was the last time that we stayed in that area..
Funny you mentioned that. Well, actually it's more sad than funny...but here's the story. During a WDW trip back in late summer of '02, we were staying offsite at a Days Inn (one exit off of I-4 from DTD, etc). This property had been converted into a Radisson last time I checked. Anyhow, around 1:30ish in the a.m., we hear a gun shot from outside. A few moments later, there were 3 police vehicles in the shopping center where Goodings, Taco Bell, (I think it's called The Village ?) which sat adjacent to our motel. We never found out what happened, DW had even asked front desk if they heard of anything, but nobody knew.

Why bump all these old threads, Crockett?

Someone must be really excited about the prospect of a fifth gate...
In another discussion, someone asked how many 5th gate threads there might be floating around. So I did a search to find out. Was going through and reading a lot of them, and commented on a few. Some of the old, old threads had some pretty funny/ironic quotes in them. Example:
"The recession will probably end in 2009.."
"We'll probably know of a 5th gate project by 2008..." :hammer:

Funny is not a reason to bump a 5 year old thread.

Actually I didn't respond to those. There were a lot. Just search forum under the word "gate" or "park".

This topic is fascinating, and ultimately what most of us want to see...though logically we know it most likely will not happen. Still makes for great "what-if" discussion.

I'd put no faith in this rumor at all. The company can't even expand World Showcase. Why would they build a whole new substantial and bolder park when they have one they won't even build on?

I agree with this, but more so for DHS than WS. There seems to be (imo) more to do in WS than in the entire DHS park. DAK was in this same boat until the new Avatar Land was announced. But how long until that comes to life?

There is so much more the 4 existing parks can do rather than adding a brand new 5th gate.

Well, considering this thread was originally about Disney's America, I'm not sure we have much to worry about either EP or AK.....

The thing with the current 5th gate rumors are that they wouldn't be directly competing with the existing 4 parks. Sure they could compete with these parks from a time standpoint, but not from a monetary standpoint.

A few years ago I had the opportunity to shadow the minor league general manager of the Durham Bulls, and one of the questions I asked him was about his competition in the area. I was expecting to hear that he was in competition with other college sports, but he pointedly told me that he was in competition with movie theaters and other things like that. His thought was 3 hours of entertainment at $10-15. He's in competition with other entertainment venues, not other sports venues.

Look at the probably price point of a 5th gate ($200-300) for presumably 8 hours of entertainment. The competition for something like this would include those people that would like to go to dinner and a show, or those people that pay for the other elite offerings in the area.

I understand the Wikipiedia is user driven and alot of things are not actual factual but i stumbled accross this and through it would make for a good discussion point. Theye are claiming this is in the works for the fifth gate at WDW based on the original idea for the park in Virgina that never happened.

"New rumors have arisen that Disney's America would be combined with the Disney Sea concept for the fifth theme park to be built at the Walt Disney World Resort in Lake Buena Vista, Florida. The timeframe for the park's opening is in the early 2010's. "

Nothing on wiki can be trusted unless you go back to the source and see if it is legit. I would like to see a 5th gate, but I doubt it is going to happen any time soon. With the high cost of avaland and expansion needed at the other gates, it will be awhile before we see a new themed land. I bet we get a new water park first.
