Festival of the Lion King moving to Africa

I am happy to see the relocation of FOTLK. I hope that it means that something will be put into the CMM space -- if not Pandora, then hopefully something else. If they are moving forward with moving FOTLK, that at least indicates that they plan to put something in CMM otherwise there would not be a reason to spend the money for the relocation.

Boy, Africa is going to become my favorite land at the AK. (Previously was Dinoland) You got/get FOTLK, my favorite musical show in WDW (although you can make the arguement for this and BATB at DHS), you got Tusker House (my favorite WDW restaurant) and Kilamanjaro Safari. And that street show they have next to the restaurant with the drums. Rodhe's got his work cut out for him now I feel. At the very least in terms of the new FOTLK theater. I'm just glad they're going to be showing this even when construction for the new theater is going up. This move to Africa makes sense on many levels.

I'm really curious to see how they handle the crowd flow at what is already one of the worst bottlenecks in the park. Hopefully there are additional pathways planned to exit out from the show besides the area where the wild Africa trek was located?

agreed. the only way i can think of is to add a new bridge over the water back to discovery island for people exiting. but that would be rather pricey.

There was talk of them possibly repurposing the bridge behind Pizzafari to be an on-stage bridge to handle crowds exiting FotLK. They'd just have to move the entrance gate for the parade to the far side of the bridge and schedule shows at FotLK so that they won't be ending when the parade needs access across the bridge.

The only snag is that this would cut off behind-the-scenes ambulance access to First Aid, though that could be remedied with a new First Aid location on the far side of the bridge or elsewhere in the park (near the front gate or possibly at the entrance to whatever is going into the CMM plot).

Plans I saw had a new bridge just to the left of the current bridge into Africa, mostly dedicated to the new FotLK theatre. There was also access accross the backstage bridge (which would obviously be onstage now), with a new walkway connecting (along the opposite side of the river) what is essentially, these two bridges. I would assume that the new walkway would eventually be extended south, all the way down to the current Camp MM bridge, thus completing the "beltway" around the Discovery River.

Orlando Theme Park News is reporting that construction on the new theater will start on Monday the 11th.

Everything is proceeding as was previously announced. Ground breaking for Pandora by the end of 2013 seems on track.

And kudos to Joe for keeping FotLK. It seems Disney rarely moves attractions so this is a pleasant surprise I doubted would get green lit. Great decision!
