Festival of the Lion King moving to Africa

I think Splash works because people don't associate it with Song of the South. It was a win for Disney because they could introduce something new to this generation without having to take the time or $$$ to invent new characters. For many, those characters exist only in Splash Mountain thus it is almost the equivalent of an "original" attraction. Avatar on the other hand, is widely known and the reaction is divisive. To me it is too much of a flash in the pan, flavor of the month type of property...and even worse it is last month's flavor of the month. Because it was such a pop culture phenomenon, its popularity has spiked and now plummeted. It is now "cool to hate it". Releasing an attraction based on Avatar in 5 years from now is the theme park equivalent to releasing a remix of "Gangnam Style" in half a decade.

excellent post there. i really am hoping that eventually the avatarland concept will just fizzle out and die and they'll go on to something different. beastly kingdom really does need to be brought back onto the drawing board and revised quite a bit. give it more of a European theme with forests and woodland creatures etc as well as creatures of myth/legend. leave out the Grecian and topiary castle areas.

It's a simple thing to install, so my guess is that they want FOTLK to have FP+ ready when it goes live rather than wait for the show to have it when its new theater is ready.

They've already had regular FP for the show during the busiest weeks, right? (It's also possible that FP+ would only be active for the show during the busiest weeks, but I doubt it)

This isn't surprising at all. They've utilized Fastpass for Lion King, Nemo, and Flights of Wonder in the past. It's a park that has 6 rides, it needs FP+ capacity for the program to work and building rides is evidently not an option.

The fact that it would get Fastpass is not surprising, but I am surprised they are spending the money for this when there are plans to move it.

Oh yeah... that doesn't make a lot of sense. That tells you that they're expecting to have it rolled out before September. Perhaps spending money on stuff like this is why the cost is so ridiculous.

Unless they don't need to move it anytime soon. If the space isn't needed for Avatar yet, they can leave FOTLK open as long as possible while they build the new theater. They only need to close FOTLK when the new theater is ready or if they ever break ground for Avatar.

I was going to ask if the Fastpass was for the new location in Africa but then I saw that the permit was for Camp Minnie Mickey. So, maybe the Fastpass is going to be for the time being until then new stage is built. Like what @RandomPrincess said.

So let me get this straight, when they implement FastPass+ here, they'll reserve certain viewing areas for the folks who have it similar to what they're going to do with Wishes, Iluminations? Will they be allowed in the show earlier than when guests waiting in standby enter the theater? Cause if they do and reserve em the area I always like to sit in (Elephant section, 3rd row), I'm gonna be might ticked and possibly throw them out of their seats (not literally but wish I could do something similar like that Suzuki car parking jerk button commercial). As long as I see the show, I guess that's all that matters.

They could do it like Fantasmic and have one section that is for FP+ The other three are for stand by.

That's not a bad idea actually. That's probably what they're going to shot for, but if there's high demand for it on certain days, then they'll probably use it for 2 sections. Lets hope they do it this way.

Adding FP+ to a single location isn't really a huge undertaking financially or physically. Just a few reader posts, a CM kiosk for checking the system and dealing with problems and a local server tied into the network. Probably a few gate and pathway changes. Nothing major at all, and easy to remove and relocate later.

A fence has gone up around the supposed construction site for the new theatre, so construction could be starting any time now. Looks like the plan is to keep the show running for as long as possible in the old location until its new home is ready.
any pics? would it be between the bridge and Tusker house or between tusker and the safari? i assume to the left of Tusker (looking at it) as they have that wide walkway leading nowhere.
