I had the opportunity to see 2 performances on Sunday including the final one at the original location. My initial plan was just to catch one more chance to photograph the show from the old location. After experiencing the astonishing emotion of that 4:30 performance, I hung around for the final at 6:30.

I took a mountain of photos from 2 different locations but a couple that really stuck with me came from the 4:30 performance. For those who have seen the show, the Circle of Life sequence at the end of the show can be among the most amazing and emotional of the show. The lead performer singing that sequence at the 4:30 show gave it absolutely everything she could possibly give. I've had the pleasure to hear some truly amazing performances in this show over the years but this one was special. She gave 150% and was clearly emotionally spent when it was over. And the audience reacted in kind.

During the final show at 6:30 a good portion of the audience was packed with WDW Entertainment CM's and former performers from this show in it's many years in this theater. Nearly every sequence of the show closed with a standing ovation from the crowd and the ovation at the end was really deafening.

I'm looking forward to the new edition of the show when it moves to it's new home this summer but also really glad I had the opportunity to catch the final performance in it's original home.

These are great, thank you. I'm assuming all these cast members have to reapply for the new location? I couldn't imagine everyone would be so sentimental over a location change. I'm guessing the show is also getting a reworking, full robot cast powered by MM+.

I wish we'd taken the time to see this before! It was on the "must do" list for our upcoming trip, but that's in May, so we'll have to take a pass until we're back in another 2-3 years.

I wish WDW wouldn't remove attractions, parades or shows until they've got something lined up to replace them immediately. AK is the last place they need a reduction in the offerings.

Although it stinks it won't be back for a little bit, I'd much rather them start building something new than to have to wait for the new theater to be built before moving in. Also, I think in this instance, they are moving a lot of the same equipment into the new space anyways, so unavoidable.

Yes, everyone in the cast, both the equity performers (the singers) and the non-equity performers (the stilt walkers, puppeteers, etc.) is being asked to re-audition when the show moves locations. Some will probably rejoin the show, but others may not. It was the uncertainty that played into much of the emotion yesterday.

In the meantime, many of the performers will be moving into other roles- the non-equity performers are entertainment cast, so they can be moved around. The equity cast's contract ended yesterday, so their situation is a little different. Many of them are remaining with the company, however, in a different capacity.

What capacity are the equity performers able to remain with the company if their contracts have ended? Just curious as to how that works.

We also enjoyed Tarzan Rocks. Ran into the theatre just as the Heavens opened up.

FotLK is a tough sell to 2 teenaged boys.

This year I am determined to make it to Disneyland, so FotLK will have to wait until 2015.
They need to understand it's not the movie. It's a trapeze, fire dancer/walker/eater, ceiling rope-swing dancer/acrobat, stilt walking show. It's not what people expect.

They can sub in to other shows, fill vacant roles in other shows, etc. Officially, they're let go as of today, but Disney will try to keep a lot of them around, if they can.

We saw it for the first time on our trip in July of '12. For some reason we just never got back to CMM before. But, for the few years running up to that trip we kept hearing how good it was and knew we weren't gonna' miss it next trip. We were BLOWN away! It was awesome! We had seen both Nemo and Tarzan before and those were/are great, but this was definitely the BEST! :joyfull:
We made darn sure to go see it again with my MIL and niece on our most recent trip in june of '13! They absolutely loved it and our niece even participated in the little parade around the theater. We all still talk about it all the time, and we got some GREAT pics and video, too! :)

Any word if CMM has been walled of as of today? Avatar isn't supposed to open until 2017, correct? So we'll have 3 years of a wall in front of CMM.

Good question, and I would like to know too. I would assume so, since there isn't anything else back there except for the Meet N Greets and bathrooms.

Better than Nemo?

We saw Nemo this year, and it was a big giant meh!

(Recognizing of course, that YMMV.)

Nemo is horrific. A complete waste of at least an hour and a half of my life that I'll never get back. Horrible, horrible show. Good actors, neat costumes, terrible songs, terrible pacing of the original story. Just awful. We were bored to tears.

FotLK is spectacular, however. My favorite show on Disney property. A do not miss IMO.

CMM has always been temporary. A cheap filler. But, like Mickey's Brirthdayland, it is amazing what good design can achieve with limited means. In fact, I think limited means often forces creativity, while abundance results in creative laziness. The cleverness and craftsmanship of CMM's design is underrated.

No need for false nostalgia, CMM was not a must see land. But it was quite pleasant, one of the finer strolls in DAK. A little stream, some Duck displays, and a National Park / summer camp theme. It worked well enough. Apart from FoTLK there were m&g's and a Pocahontas show. This show, like CMM itself, was temporary, small and modest, but fun enough.

WDW doesn't need $500 million state-of-the-art movie tie-in lands, Better to leave that to UNI. It creates great theme parks, but lacking in real soul and Disney sentiment. I'd trather CMM's Natural Park theme was further developed into a proper North America area. WDW always gets that sort of Americana exactly right, whether it is River Country, or Fort Wilderness, or Tom Sawyer Island, and even - in a more modest way - CMM's theme and atmosphere.

Oh my gosh, I love this post. As I've been saying for years, every new addition doesn't have to cost $500 million.

WDW is sorely lacking just pleasant areas to relax and enjoy. CMM was a nice quiet area that put you in the middle of the wilderness, away from the hustle and bustle.

While multi-billion dollar additions are great, at this point I'd rather see less-expensive additions (like old school dark rides) that would bring back a bit of the heart to WDW and add much needed capacity without breaking the bank.

Seriously, can you imagine how popular a little area at AK would do that consisted of a Jungle Book, The Lion King (and maybe something like Rescuers or Robin Hood ) dark rides would be? –and no, they don't have to be $350 million debacles like The Little Mermaid, either. You could probably do 3 dark rides and a nice little hub for under $150 mill – and just think what that would do for AK!

<tangent over, sorry>
