Feedback on new style

The "Live" new post feature makes me sea sick. I also can't find the "quick reply" /post feature. To post to the thread I had to "reply" to a poster and then take the quote out. I am sure I will get used to the "improved" Magic but liked the old better. It was much more user friendly.

On the bottom of the screen in the dark blue bar, on the left side of the bar is a button to choose your style. @wdwmagic added several different style options, including WDWMAGIC Classic which has the powdered blue colors like the old forum.
I think the problem is that it isn't all that evident to most users that that changes the style (as you have to actually mouse over it to realize that is the style chooser).

You should be able to scroll to the bottom of any page and see the reply box.

Once you get adjusted to the new format, you'll find this version is in fact much more user friendly. It's just a learning curve with it being new. :)

Which is why the Help forum was created, along with the scrolling message at the top of each page about changing color schemes :)

Ok, lets offer some fun suggestions since this new setup looks to be able to do a lot more than VB.

One of the first things I noticed about the new forum was the X-Box Live like "Achievements", which are the little awards posters are getting for little things we do and little things other posters do to our posts. My suggestion is, is it possible to expand and build those up to the point where people can earn more or even rare achievements few can get?

Achievements are extremely popular on X=Box live and games like World of Warcraft, some are easy to get, some are extremely hard, some are so rare only one person will ever get them. This could be huge. The only bad thing would be you would need people to make these achievements and the criteria to earn them and if they become real popular, and Iam sure they would, you would need someone pumping them out pretty consistantly.

Having played around some more....

-WDWMagic Classic Liquid style is PERFECT on the eyes.
-I love everything about replying to a message. The ease of switching between rich text and plain text. The always-available editing tools. The simplicity of uploading attachments.
-I like how you can customize your alerts and choose what you want to be in your face and what you don't care about. For example, I prefer to go to "watched threads" to see who has replied to threads I've participated in, and I didn't like that I was getting alerts as well, so I turned them off. Now I'm only getting alerts when someone quotes me or likes me, which is perfect.
-Love the Facebook integration. No more starting threads saying "what is your Facebook?"
-I like the uniformity of the avatars on the side.
-Speaking of things I like, I like the likes. It's nice to acknowledge that you appreciate a comment without having to actually interrupt the flow of a conversation. And seeing how many likes each person has under their avatar is fun and makes me want to be more liked. o_O
-Trophies are fun too.
-The search is SO much better. Boy was it ever brutal on vbulletin.
-I like the little links up in the top right to easily view Steve's youtube videos, twitter feed, etc.
-Seeing the list of top posters off to the side is neat, even though I will never be able to beat the news robot.
-The announcements at the top are great.
-I used to get really lost with all of the information on the old forum. It seemed like there was too much to take in and I was missing a lot just because of how it was arranged. It's so much easier to find what I'm looking for here.
-Mainly, the load speed is what does it for me. This sucker is fast. I used to give up on trying to read on my iPhone or iPad when I wasn't on Wi-fi, and forget being able to post coherently from those devices because the editing functionality was so terrible. This works so much better. I wonder how many minutes of my life have been wasted waiting for pages on WDWMagic to load?

Now that I have my beautiful WDWMagic Classic Liquid style, I am down to one single complaint. There is no way to LOL at people anymore. None of the emoticons convey laughter and I hate saying "LOL". It's so 90's AOL chat-roomish. Maybe I'll just have to say "haha that's very funny" all the time. o_O

PS - I have officially decided that o_O is a good replacement for :lookaroun

I gave you a like, to help you achieve internet fame. But I'm also going to add my comments.

I agree wholeheartedly with just about everything you said. I still prefer non-liquid, because I need fixed width websites or I start having panic attacks (everything must be in order....nice, tidy, order, lol).

I would REALLY like to add some smilies to the library. I miss BRICKWALL, LOL, and LOOKAROUND more than anything. "ER WHAT" does not convey the same message as lookaround, which is what you use when you say something that should be followed with "Did I just say that outloud and/or did anyone hear me and/or is anyone judging me?"

The speed is incredible. @wdwmagic, the new hardware is incredible. Hope us PMers help offset the bill.

A couple more things I thought of.

-I like the little mini avatar that shows up on the side of all the posts you've participated in.
-I like how a lot of things can be accessed by hovering instead of clicking.
-Being able to click on someone's avatar and read a little blurb about them in a pop-up box instead of having to load a separate page is nice.

One thing I'm having trouble with is the pop up box for inserting images. Sometimes it loads slowly or not at all, so I went back to using plain text and image tags. I would prefer to use the image pop-up box in rich text mode because then I could see what image I'm actually posting. Is it just my computer?

I have not been able to reproduce that. What browser and operating system are you on and I'll test it this end.

Thanks for the great review. You hit all the points we were hoping to do with this upgrade.

Anyway to add who the last poster and time of threads was when viewing forums with the mobile skin? Right now it only shows the thread start date and poster
