February climate question

I will be in the World from Feb 8th - Feb 16th. I've read from all you wonderful people that February is one of the best times of the year to go. I have one question though; somebody on another thread mentioned something about the lack of foliage being a downside to a winter trip. Is this true? I always thought Florida had foliage all year round. The tropical feel has always been one of my favorite aspects of vacationing in Disney, especially when staying at the Polynesian. Will I miss out on much in Feb?

Ironically, February is typically when our trees go through "Autumn." The oaks drop their leaves during this timeframe in large quantity. Not everything will be bare (palm trees don't ever shed leaves for example) but a lot will. February also tends to have some cold, brisk nights too though, as ever, with our weather, it's very random and unpredictable in advance.

Although most of the trees had full leaves, it was just not as colorful or vibrant than the other times of year we've been there. However, the palm trees are always wonderful and provide a tropical feel. Do dress for all seasons. We had days in the 80's and then back in the 50's. It wouldn't keep me from going during Feb.

We went in Feb 2010 and wore shorts and t-shirts or tank tops every day! The weather was very warm during the day and cool in the morning/evening. I actually didn't notice any lack of foliage, although we were coming from New England which was buried under snow!

You're not going to notice much of a change in foliage. Florida is a subtropical climate, so most of the plants will be green. A few might shed their leaves, but you won't see many bare trees.

LOL!! Good point!!! We were there in February this year. I did not see a difference in landscaping/foliage. The weather was very mild and we actually got lucky as it warmed up a lot while we were there (unseasonably). Just prepare for it to be fairly cold. Although it is Florida, January and February are pretty cold(but still not as cold as the rest of the country!)

Our trips overlap!

From what I've heard (it's been a really long time since I was there in Jan/Feb), and as everyone else has said, it's really not that bad in comparison to northern areas!

I was also there in Feb 2010, and it was in the 50's tops and rainy the whole time we were there. I was in the same sweater the whole week and a fleece jacket that I bought there, and I was still cold. It just shows how different the weather can be there. I do know that it was very unusual for it to be that cold down there. It was still better than the blizzard we were getting at home.

We went the first week of February in 2010 and other than the first full day where temps were in the upper 50s and I wore a jacket all day, the weather was in the lower 70s. But like others will state, the weather may be a gamble.

My favorite week of the year! Best experiences ever second week of Feb in the past...low crowds and enough greenery abounding to give me a fix from not seeing ANY for months up here....I did notice one trip some browning on things but overall? Was thrilled to see palm trees and lots of greenery everywhere I looked. Sometimes had 50-60 days but many were approaching 75-80...simply days where we wore our jackets in early am to ditch them later in a locker or backpack. Have fun!!!:king:

We have gone in February for the past six years. There have been many days that have required coats and winter wear. The weather is very unpredictable. The crowds will peak leading up to Presidents Day and Daytona 500. I would avoid those weekends, but it is a great time to visit.
