February 2016 Disney World ticket price increases and new tiered 1 day tickets

By what metric? Using a 5 day trip as an example. The park tix would be my single biggest expense. $400 per ticket. Even for a family of 3 that's $1200. 5 night hotel is less. So is a flight.

We usually stay at Disney 3 night and the go to the beach the rest of our trip. For us, flights are usually 300pp. So 1200. Disney deluxe hotel is value season us usually ~300/night, so maybe ~900. And if we paid rack now for 2 or 3 day park hopper we would be close to 1200 or more. Add in food and rental car and gifts. While the tickets might not be the majority of our cost, in this scenario they are among the largest costs. (We don't pay rack and still have non expiring tickets ranging in per day price from $55-$75pp/per day.)

If I actually though crowds would be reduced I wouldn't complain. I'm sure this is designed to minimally reduce crowds while maximizing profits.

Disagree.
World Showcase was almost impossible to walk on New year's after 7.
People started to camp 4 hours ( guilty as charged with 3 hours here) spots infront of the lagoon.
As people can get rude when you set your space.

I sat between Italy and USA. And was packed to the seams.
I have no idea why you say "felt like a normal crowded day".

Also, who the hell would leave right after the 7:00 pm fireworks when the new year's fireworks is right by the corner?
park hoppers to Magic Kingdom?
I definitely camped out. My dinner was done between 8 and 8:30 and the crowds had dropped significantly after the 7 pm fireworks

To me, pricing isn't the main issue with Disney these days. ALL businesses raise prices, to the point where they can balance supply and demand (others here would disagree and cite that Disney is more than just a business .. I understand that, based on WEDs initial mission statement). Fine. For me the biggest problem is value - amount of enjoyment for your dollar. I liken the park capacities to a shirt with buttons about to pop-off. Because of the reduction in value, we choose to not go as often now -- once every two years instead of every year. It's not because of the costs increasing inexorably. Instead, we don't go on as many things now because of the increased attendance vs. available content. As long as the expansions keep pace with the attendance/capacity, that will keep me satisfied .. there has been a real dearth of addt'l content lately, however, which highlights the pricing probably more than if they had kept better pace with the content/attendance ratio.

We are done. Greener pastures are out there. We have done Disney at least once a year since 2002. Did a 10 year vow renewal at the Poly. With the insane crowds, the crummy limitations of FP+ and now the latest round of greedy increases it is not even a question of when I go back, it is now an if. Already started looking at new vacation spots last night.

I agree. My biggest complaint about increasing prices is the fact that they have done nothing to justify them aside from "hey we can so why not!" And I guess as long as people are happy with less, and paying more, than things won't change. We have been doing every other year for the last 4 years. Next year was our on again year but we may not go and just wait till star wars is done. We have missed 4yrs in the last 20yrs so it really pains me to have this attitude.

Thanks. The increase isn't quite as much as I first thought. I guess I forgot what it actually was last time I went. But it's enough.

I am annoyed by the increases here, but just a random question. I wonder, if the prices had gone up more often over the years, but a smaller amount, would it be more acceptable to people? I suppose there's all kinds of psychological arguments you could have over larger sudden increases versus constant incremental increases.

I have to admit that as I get older and see how much it REALLY costs to go, I realize how big a deal it was for my parents to get us to Disney several times in the past. And though I know Disney's not running a charity here, I start to feel bad when I see commercials showing people that bringing your children to WDW is the greatest thing ever, thinking about the people who could never afford it. I don't expect it to be cheap to go, since they have created such an experience for people, but sometimes it seems like they are pushing it really far.

yeah if the parks are "that over crowded" then BUILD THE FIFTH GATE.. if you feel you have to 'limit people from coming" then build a NEW PARK.. you have the land.. the time.. and the money and interest rates are at an all time low.. Now is the time to build.. but don't start to tell me that YOU DON"T WANT ME or NEED ME.. then stop your advertisements... but now you are telling me that I AM NOT WORTHY because of my pocket book.. that's as ANTI WALT AS YOU CAN POSSIBLY GET.. the news is RIPPING DISNEY RIGHT NOW ON TV.. congrats.. You guys look real real good.. with mud on your face..

They need to build a third MK type park in the US. Building a 5th park would be useless, people would still want MK

But the thing is, they like it crowded. Crowds are good for the park, just not so good for the visitors. Even though they aren't selling a physical product, "supply and demand" still applies. When more people want something, you can charge them more for it. Fewer people want to go to WDW in January, so they charge less to attract them at a time they don't really want to be there.

And I think that is a great idea. Every place that celebrates New Year's Eve places a premium on that night. Why shouldn't Disney?
so, premium price ON TOP of an already PREMIUM price?

I dont know if you're joking, being sarcastic or being real serious.

technically, with all the cuts.. Price hikes should have not been introduced this year.
There is nothing new and important that is opening.
Only I can think of ROL and or Frozenstrom..
Its like they want us to pay all the problem of Shangai and the future buildings, even if we do not experience.

You mean, charge the same.. prices are not going down.
Yeah, you're right. I think I was more talking about the tiered pricing on the one-days, and was also thinking about how you get lower prices or special deals on hotels. Maybe off topic a little. :)

Guilty as charged. However, the more important question is will I continue to do so after this trip? The arrogant Disney executives are betting I, and hundreds of thousands like me, will. Personally, I've given them well over $150,000 in repeat business (23 visits) since 1976...I think it's time to spend that money elsewhere. And I realize the ungrateful response of Disney (and many members of this forum) would be "whatever - don't let the monorail door hit you on the way out". But I would think twice about the way I respect and value my loyal, bread-and-butter customers.
Karma is one guest they don't want buying their tickets...at any price.

I too have a trip booked in December because a couple of our friends wanted to take a trip together with all of our kids. Last trip was Feb 2014 so nearly 3 years when we go again. Mine train will be new, kids will love Frozen ride and the christmas season adds to the standard experience. The kids don't see these cuts and prices so it's for them (7 and 5 when we go). I just don't know that I'll book another trip anytime soon. 3 years minimum maybe where we were trying to go every year before and it was the end all be all of vacations. We are also renting DVC points so saving close to 50% on the room.

We'll see...Disney...win me back.
