Fantasyland Expansion/Utilidoor Question.......

With such a huge expansion going on in Fantasyland, will Disney be also expanding the utilidoors into the new area? With all those different Princess areas, with different costumes and characters needed, one would assume that they would be adding a few extra miles or so to get CMs into all those different mini lands.

Also, does anyone have an satellite photo of the Magic Kingdom with the existing utilidoor layout overlaid into onto the pic?

Just threw this together for a general idea.

Since direct backstage access will be possible for Be Our Guest, Mermaid and the Belle "Attraction", a utilidor is not necessary for those.

If you look closely at the leaked plans, there is a dotted line that could indicate a utilidor. It comes out of the Cindy Attraction toward Be Our Guest. At the walkway it turns left and continues to the entrance to Guest, where it makes a half right turn. It goes on thru the word"Belle" and appears to end backstage behind the Pinocchio Village Haus. If this is a utilidor, it could service both Cindy and Aurora.

Interesting, never noticed that on the plans. Hmmmmmm......

It certainly makes sense for there to be a new utilidoor added in the new Fantasyland area.

Yes the utilidor will be expanded a bit, at least if the current plans don't change. It won't be miles though, just a couple hundred feet. The whole utilidor system is only a mile to a mile and a half total.

It would surprise me to be expanded as the Utiladors weren't expanded when Toontown went in,..I could see bus stops added in much like there is a stop in Toontown before the main bus stop for CMs...so I coudl see more on the line of this than an expansion of rhte utiliador.

I guess it would depend on whether or not the expansion would expand into the current area behind the exisitng FL. Since the main utilidor for MK cm's to access the parking lot goes through there, if the expansion goes into what is currently backstage area it would have to be expanded. Given how extensive the expansion is going to be I don't see how they could not expand the utilidors.

It`s possible, it will be feasible and relatively cheap and easy to do. The Utilidors were expanded in 1972 as If You Had Wings was completed in anticipation of the original Plaza Pavilion construction so it isn`t as if it has never been done before.

Extension possible

I would say that they may add one or two small access tunnels to reach Aurora's and Cinderella's Meet and Greets, as for adding bus stops, probably not likely, the only reason they have bus stops at Toon Town now, is for the CMs that work there, because there is no utilidor access and they can't walk through fantasy land, in fact, I would not be surprised if that bus stop is deleted being that the CMs working in the expanded fantasyland will now be, fantasy land CMs and can walk through, therefore only requiring the Character buses to transport the Princesses and other characters. not to mention making all the other CM's happy that there is one less stop between them and their car home.

Many don't realize the added cost of bus stops, it's not just a stop. It's money for fuel, time, and brake wear and tear. It may seem minimal, but multiply it by how many routs per day, (every 5-10 min). that's allot of money. that's why schools consolidate bus stops. If there is no legal, safety, or show reason to keep the bus stop, it will drop, and the non-character CM's will be walking.

Yepper, makes sense to me. Imagine a shift change at the Princess M&G's, and Cindy or Aurora trying to get offstage thru a sea of little princess laden strollers.

Also note that there are backstage corridors connecting the Aurora section through the Cinderella building. And then at the far end of the Cinderella building where the new "tunnel" starts, there is a stairway down.

Wow. really good catch. It's amazing how much detail was there than so many of us may have never notices, and I thought I scrutinized those plans pretty hard. Totally missed the stairs and the utilidoor.

Things like this were discussed in the thread when the plans first leaked, but I know that thread got VERY long VERY quickly, so it's not surprising people didn't see it discussed.

Something else to note with the two-story nature of the expansion is that in the kitchen area of the Be Our Guest reataurant there's both stairs and an elevator down to the lower level. There's also the indication that there will be a backstage loading dock on the lower level of that kitchen, shown by the semi trucks backed up against that part of the building.

Right...Won't that part of FL be very close to the service road?
