Fantasmic before sunset???

I was just checking the park hours for June at the official web site. I was excited to see that they had extended the hours at MGM-Studios until 10:00 for the week that we will be there. (June 16-22). I also checked the show hours and they listed Fantasmic at 8:00 and 10:30. Since it doesn't get good and dark until 9:30 or so, I was wondering what it would be like to see the show while it was still daylight. I have seen it a few times but it was always after sunset.

Has anyone seen the show in the daylight or is this the earliest it has been done in the summer???:veryconfu

I remember once, quite a while back, I saw Fantasmic before it was fully dark. Obviously, the holograms don't work as well & yes, it does lose something. Aside from the fact that it is such a popular show, I can't imagine why they would do the early showing. I mean, I know it's hard to get everyone in nightly that wants to see it, but personally, I'd rather lose the chance to catch it than see it at half of what it is. I guess it's not completely horrible at that time, but it's just not as vibrant & impressive as it is when it is really dark & you can get the full effect of the show. Just my opinion.

It doesn´t get dark until 9:30????! Where? Not in Orlando if I recall.... I am sure it is dark by 8:00pm when the show starts. They need it to be dark. I remember the sun sets the latest at around 7:30.... by the time the show is in full use of lights and stuff, it is already dark. Don´t worry about it, it will be dark at 8pm. Just what I remember... :animwink:

Maria, I just checked the sunset times for Orlando on the weather channel web site. They say sunset is anywhere from 8:20-8:25 for the third week of June. So it seems like the majority of the show will be in daylight. Can anybody confirm this??? I live in Knoxville, TN and it doesn't get completely dark until about 9:15 and we are in the same timezone as WDW.

What time of year did you live there, Maria? If you were there in the springtime, it would have gotten dark about 7:30 or 8. With the extra hour of daytime in the fall, it takes longer for the sun to set.

I saw the show a couple days ago, and it got good and dark about 15-30 minutes before it started (at 9).

I was there for 15 months! I like longer days! Maybe I wasn´t paying too much attention to my watch then! :animwink:

I live in NY. It doesn't start getting dark until sometime around 8:00-8:30. For it to be pitch black as dark as it can, then it would be around 9.

So it seems as if the 8:00 show will be in total daylight. O well, i will probably wait for the 10:30 show. I'm just excited that they extended the hours of the park!!:sohappy:

At 8 it won't be total daylight. It will be dark, but not pitch black. So do the smart thing and go to the late show this way you don't have to worry about light.

I too was kinda surprised that they would be showing Fantasmic at 8pm. It's not really dark until around 8:45pm. And of course it's always dark at 9 for IllumiNations Reflections of Earth. I'm sure either way though you'll enjoy the show.

I live in Orlando...I've been to Disney several times, but never seen Fantasmic! I do know that it doesn't get completely dark now until 9:00 b/c of Daylight Savings Time. When I saw Spectromagic last, it wasn't completly darkyet!

I've seen Spectro, FiTS, and Fantasmic all in twilight, as well as ToN/ToD in both broad daylight, and dark, DARK, night

The amount of daylight can vary by one hour depending where you are located within a timezone...the further WEST you are in a timezone, the later the sun sets...
Florida is fairly close to the Central timezone, in fact, parts ARE in the Central timezone and, given the time of year so close to the summer solstice, I would think it would be VERY light at 8pm...this problem disappears by August as the days get shorter.

...I don't see how the 8pm show can possibly have the same visual effects as the later show but this is the problem Disney has to confront by cutting their damn hours and still trying to accommodate the summer crowds.
...when MGM closed at 11pm, they had a 9 and 11pm show and daylight wasn't a problem...
