Eyes on EPCOT Center

When Legacy is gone, maybe Epcot will be able to reintroduce guests to the importance of people with a pavilion dedicated to people! Oh wait - that's what Wonders of Life was about, and now that's closed. If we're talking about Epcot's Celebration of People, I'd start it with a brand new WOL pavilion, not with a Geometric Slab Forest.

That's about the inside of people...People's guts...and other areas...

You're right. :zipit: :animwink: But still, if a new version were re-imagineered it would be nice to see the focus shifted a little bit from body and health towards more of a celebration of the human spirit, perseverance, history, and power. Because, sad as it is, right now it may just be that LaL is the only part of the park (or at least, of FW) that purports to be a celebration of people (World Showcase is a celebration of nations and nationalities). And that's not exactly the best that can be done with the concept...

It was called "Horizons".

Regarding the tombstones, EPCOT Center was a whole park full of weenies. Each pavilion building stood out and was instantly recognizable. Then someone with A.D.D. decided they needed to stick some form of clutter in every single available open space. Why someone in TDO didn't say "You're are going to royally screw up the sight lines and take away from the architecture - don't do it," I have no idea.

They can't get rid of all that crap (legacy tombstones included) fast enough, imo.

^ Now, hold on a sec. I know it would be great to reuse that Group sales building again. But I like that my face is facing SSE. It's a "time capsule" for today and for tomorrow, and for future generations to enjoy. Call me a DoM if you want, but whilst keeping the marble structures, the virtual LAL could also work as well. Oh, and just remove the said LAL painting from the SSE legs if you really want to. But LAL is also a John Hench design from 1999. It's a visionary work of art in its own sense. If you want trees and shrubbery a la' 1982 EPCOT, first concentrate to the rest of FW. Needs more help than the entrance.
As the 82 Plaza gave way to the current plaza . The current plaza must give way to something else. Remember' we are always moving forward.

I'm all for "moving forward" with the entrance plaza as long as the new plaza looks identical to the 82 plaza. :animwink:

Hi everyone,
Was on SE today 1/16 and just thought I would pass along a few notes:

Ascent curtains have been fixed and straightened much better, actually almost looked really good.............

Both starfield lights in ascent after picture is taken, on left and right sides and overhead were on and looked good, bright, lovely really.......

Cave scene, finally the obnoxious flourescent lighting under the track has been turned off.....

Still very little ash smell in burning rome though, almost off.

The glowing power lines (which had been off for awhile) in the operator scene have all been fixed and glowing blinking beautifully white.

Best of all (and no not a new descent) but the dancing green leaking light at the top is totally gone, YES!!!!!!!!............hmmm has someone finally been listening maybe?

Descent, same wonderful curtains and silly triangles. But really its deplorable that there is materials and trash laying on top of the chicken wire over head. Unfinished descent of useless black triangles is one thing, but ugly crap laying around is uncalled for.

Anyway with the little fixes above it appeared to me that maybe Siemens forked over some maintence cash because these fixes were noticable and things were looking much better than it had back in early December. To bad they wont fork over more to finish what was started you know where. Oh well maybe with the next sponsor in ten to twenty. ANYHOW point is nice to see the ride getting some needed attention with the new year.

I would say Thank God this isn't a giant hat, and just a minor design detail that aides to the theme park, and does not in any way obstruct the park icon.

It's a stupid question, seeing as how I'd trade Leave a Legacy for the Hat in a SECOND. No questions asked. It doesn't fit the theme of the park and aides the message when it comes to Studios, but the hat doesn't do that either. The difference? LEGACY IS PROBABLY THE BEST THEMATIC ADDITION EPCOT HAS EVER GOT SINCE THE 1990'S. It builds on the theme, the message, and the story of Epcot, and depending on who you talk too, looks great doing it.

Axing The Wand? I get. The Tarps? I get. The Hat? I get.

As a photographer, As a Person, And as an Epcot fan, Leave A Legacy leaving would be the most significant loss of Epcot Spirit since Horizons closed.

When Legacy is gone, EPCOT will no longer start with what's really important to the future: People.
All your opinion. And YES, while the STORY and MEANING of LAL works perfectly, the execution and personification falls FLAT at that. The meaning is lost in it.

I don't know how you get "People" out of Tombstones.

I don't know how you get "People" out from LAL. Fixed. :p
As silly as it sounds, what's depicted on the tiles? People. What keeps the future moving forward with new ideas emerging? People. And what are some of the best memories to preserve for in the future, amid such advances in society? The people from then, whether they are your parents, siblings, friends, etc. You get the idea.

Plus, LAL was introduced in the Millennium, when the focus was for "Celebrating the Future Hand in Hand". It's that invisible hand to connect with those from then and now, wherever you and they may be, all united for the future.

Exactly why the virtual LaL would be great.

Do you actually see the tiles from far off? Are the pictures showing humanity? Does the structure and layout of LAL evoke any ideas or connotations of people?

Not to me. I see large slabs of marble bracing up a feat of engineering, with poor quality pictures of people who wanted to buy into a time capsule.

You know where I see humanity, the future, PEOPLE? The SSE Mural. THAT works. That shows people of all times of all races, all working for a common goal.
And on top that, it looks classy. Dry and depressing granite/marble does't do it for me.

Agreed. LaL was a decent idea with HORRIBLE execution
