Eyes on EPCOT Center

I'm searching for pictures of the entrance plaza, but until then, here are two oldies from January 1983. The picture of China is taken where the current Nine Dragons Restaurant stands (note the paper lanterns) and the second is a nightime shot of SSE with the clear monoliths.

China looks so much nicer without Nine Dragons... Much more flowing.
^I'd love to see a full length of water in one section, ala DC's reflecting pool!

As would I. Water WITH the greenery is the perfect mix.

A reflecting pond would be gorgeous, but I don't know how likely that is considering how many brain-dead tourists would let their spawn try and use it as a bath. Certainly would help if they left it raised like the center planter currently is.

Found this picture in The Gardens of Walt Disney World...doesn't show the whole entrance plaza, but gives you an idea of how open (and beautiful) it was.

IMO, they both look boring. Especially the first plaza- I would expect to see something a little more spectacular when first seeing SSE- not flowers...

They can do better....

Maybe in the pic you qouted, but how ignorant of you not to quote the others which show how grand the entrance was, which show how bright, full, soulful and filled with emotion it was.

Ok...My bad. Let's try that again.

Dark, Empty, Souless, and Unemotional...In other words, Perfect!

:brick:

Seriously. Leave a Legacy should stay, and all they need to do with it is return the obelisk back to the fountain. That's the only thing that's missing.

It's not a obelisk...Those are pylons, if anything.

And it returning WITH LAL would only make things worse. More clutter.

One or the other, IMHO.

Or...they could put in a bunch of TREES! Totally block SSE!:sohappy::lookaroun

Ok,Servo, let's put this in terms you can understand.

It is the 1990s. Disney MGM is in it's best years. SitS is performing,it is still a studio and the hat isn't there.

They rip out the plants in front if the Chinese Theater-the park's main weinie/icon and replace it with marble slabs that have pictures of people.

How do you react?

^Don't replace this with empty meaningless flower beds.

The meaning behind LAL, which is what I think you are favoring here, over "meaningless" flowers, while VERY symbolic and appropriate for EPCOT is brought down by it's execution. The average guest thinks that it's a War Memorial. In front of EPCOT. That ain't good.

I would say Thank God this isn't a giant hat, and just a minor design detail that aides to the theme park, and does not in any way obstruct the park icon.

It's a stupid question, seeing as how I'd trade Leave a Legacy for the Hat in a SECOND. No questions asked. It doesn't fit the theme of the park and aides the message when it comes to Studios, but the hat doesn't do that either. The difference? LEGACY IS PROBABLY THE BEST THEMATIC ADDITION EPCOT HAS EVER GOT SINCE THE 1990'S. It builds on the theme, the message, and the story of Epcot, and depending on who you talk too, looks great doing it.

Axing The Wand? I get. The Tarps? I get. The Hat? I get.

As a photographer, As a Person, And as an Epcot fan, Leave A Legacy leaving would be the most significant loss of Epcot Spirit since Horizons closed.

When Legacy is gone, EPCOT will no longer start with what's really important to the future: People.

I think its removal would actually provide more Epcot Spirit to the park. We are entering the Green Era, when imposing opaque traditions (represented by the stones) are being broken in favor of transparency and sustainability. Make no mistake - I mean this in more ways than one.

When Legacy is gone, EPCOT will no longer start with what's really important to the future: People.
When Legacy is gone, maybe Epcot will be able to reintroduce guests to the importance of people with a pavilion dedicated to people! Oh wait - that's what Wonders of Life was about, and now that's closed. If we're talking about Epcot's Celebration of People, I'd start it with a brand new WOL pavilion, not with a Geometric Slab Forest.
