Agreed. Now if WDW wants to build a thrill park then I will not argue. That is what it is supposed to be that is what it will be.

And PS this is what I like about the WDWmagic members. We can agree to disagree civilly. Many and I dare say most of the other boards on the internet melt into free for all's. I thank you all for being the decent people you are.

I definitely like the idea of a dark ride in Morocco. That would be cool. And while they're at it, please update the dark ride in Mexico. Just a wee bit outdated. And by wee bit I mean A LOT!! And maybe an attraction involving dragons over in China. Maybe even with Mushu.

I'm just wondering how would they turn World Showcase (the world's nicest food court) extreme?
Since it is a part of this Extreme Park of Tomorrow?

I think most of the "Extreme Park" stuff would be for Future World, if indeed it becomes that, which I hope it doesn't. Not that they wouldn't consider redoing some of World Showcase, though I'm not quite sure how it would become extreme, but most of the reworking Epcot ideas have been for Future World.

Last summer while I was in WDW, I noticed something about the acronym EPCOT. In Innovations, on the wall that covers EPCOT's history, it calls EPCOT "Experimental Prototype Center of Tomorrow". But while at MGM, in the 100 years of Magic museum, they have it called "Experimental Prototype Community of Tomorrow".
Anyone else notice this? :veryconfu

Walt called it both center and community, as I recall, in the presentation of his on Epcot that I saw, something along the lines of "by far our most exciting project...the heart of everything in the Florida project, is our Experimental Prototype Center of Tommorow, EPCOT, the Experimental Prototype Community of Tommorow" (note that this IS NOT a direct quote, just as I remember it!)

I found it very interesting that both were used in sequence like that, but both describe his original project very well.

Yeah that is strange, I never really bother to visit Innoventions whenever I'm down there. I'm more for rides and attractions then exhibits.

Right. I just found it strange that it was named differently.

By using the word 'center' instead of 'community' they have enabled themselves to create a theme park, as opposed to what Walt wanted, a small city.

That model on TTA is supposed to be the model of the "Community" right? And isn't Celebration supposed to be the town that will somewhat be modeled after that? :veryconfu

Yes. The model on the TTA is what Walt envisioned as E.P.C.O.T. Celebration was not officially meant to fill this dream, but it did in some instances.

I don't even want to think about that. The board did turn down the bid though, about a half hour ago i guess. Savedisney.com and other threads have reported on it.

I love roller coasters and I love dark rides. If EPCOT had decent exhibits and dark rides that drew in the crowds, then it would be great. Maybe it's just me, but other than Test Track, Mission Space, Spaceship Earth, and Living Seas the rest of EPCOT seems dismal. When I go to EPCOT I don't think "Oh boy, I can't wait to ride Universe Of Energy, I'm thinking Test Track and Mission Space, because yes, they are "thrill" rides, but they are Disney thrill rides. Disney wouldn't just throw a roller coaster blatantly in the middle of the park. When a roller coaster or any high ticket ride comes in, it is themed marvelously, which makes me pick Disney over Universal or Six Flags. I say the more thrills the merrier!

Amen to that brother! Everyone freaks out at mention of thrill rides in project gemini rumours, but it's not a bad idea as long as balance is kept. Instead of replacing attractions to put in new ones they should have the new rides(thrill rides) inconjuntion with the old ones (dark rides). Of course after the retirement of horizons and the whole DCA thing, I don't blame people for being nervous. Now I wanna see if you've heard the same rumours as I have and what you think because no one else wants to openly talk about them. There's talks of adding a rainforest rollercoaster or water ride to the land and also a launched roller coaster to imagination called brainstormers which launches riders into their own imaginations and is supposed to utilize old school aspects and new ones. And what do you think should happen to WOL? I think it should go.

I would be glad if the wand finally comes off. It just looks out of place and takes away from SSE.

I'd like to see a rehab of SSE with the omnimover system replaced with an updated version, and some updated show scenes. Maybe that could happen along with the removal of the hand/wand.

I do agree balance is good for the park. You can't have too many thrill rides or too many slow-moving dark rides. You need a balance of the two to please the masses.

Thats really sad about the wand coming down!

Are you kidding me!? :lookaroun

Anyway, I agree with you, stingrock. A good balance is essential - admittedly one major flaw of Epcot's original format.

One thing you guys aren't really considering is the fact that at the time in 1982, Epcot was an AMAZING, revolutionary park, unlike anything in the world. This is another example of Disney being it's own worst competitor. When you raise the bar that high, you set a new standard that becomes so accepted it's subjected to parody. The end result is that you have to keep reinventing yourself - something disney has proven quite adept at. I'd also like to note that from the beginning, the pavilions at epcot weren't designed to be permanent - I read this in the Epcot Center book I have.

That said, I am vehemently opposed to "Extreme Park Center of Tomorrow." Stupidest idea I've ever heard of, hands down. I wonder if this is the same disney exec/WDI member/whoever that came up with the giant sign idea...

I understand what you are saying about Disney being its worst competitor...but EPCOT center was not outdated, nor was it less amazing in the 90's than it was when it opened. I miss the old EPCOT center so much. Don't get me wrong...I think that Mission:Space and Test Track are great additions to the park, but I don't think they should have closed Horizons and World of Motion...they should have just ADDED the other 2 attractions. I have a video of the ride through of Horizons and WOM, and my friend, who has only been to the "new Epcot", watched these attractions with me, and he was amazed by them...and was surprised they closed them down. And this was on video, where you can't get the full effect of the attraction.

His favorite attractions at EPCOT are SE and Maelstrom. Hrmmm..not TT or M:S. Could it be that Disney was on the right track to begin with. Why change things if there are no complaints? Dark rides have not lost their "wow". We miss them!
