News Expose reveals WDC control in online fan community

You act as though we were conned into being here. Everyone here has some level of fan interest in Disney and wants nothing more than to see what we think to be the best future for the parks come to fruition. If Disney is taking our opinions to heart and using them as feedback for future projects, ISN'T THAT EXACTLY WHAT WE WANT?! 🤣
My thoughts exactly. Please let it be true that my opinions somehow move the needle at TWDC. And I will also be reviewing my current consulting fee.

So I logged on at 10:30 ET “to see if there was anything interesting on the boards.”

Subsequently have sworn out loud a few times. Man, this is freaking intriguing.

I was a MiceChat user from 2002-2007 and checked out WDWM when people over there were mad at someone over here for something. I don’t even remember what. Signed up to check it out, liked it better here, and stayed. While none of this is technically “shocking” (I am a marketing consultant who works with Fortune 500 companies), the Pollyanna Disney fan in me was still caught off guard for sure.

Two people whose opinions I’d love on this:

@Lee
@marni1971

I’m also reminded how much I miss @KevinYee ’s MiceAge “Declining by Degrees” columns. Do you write about the parks anywhere at all anymore, Kevin?

All caught up and I have to say this. I have been a long long time member of this forum and have had things to contribute when I had some insider info. Lately life has been so busy I come in read the updates and go on with the rest of my life. There are posters like @Kman101 @flynnibus and @doctornick who often say what I want faster and better.

The one thing that has always made this site stand out and made it better than all the others was @wdwmagic allowing meaningful, insightful, divisive, and even controversial conversation to occur when other sites would never allow it. And I applaud the fact that this thread has not been closed even though it is possible that some negativity may be linked to the site. I will always be grateful to the owners for allowing this kind of injecture to occur.

So as I crack open my second beer and refresh the site I say to you all be appreciative and respectful. Most importantly respect people's truths and privacy 🍻

Umm....what?!

"@TP2000

Would you like one more chance to correct any of the above statements?

I will give you the opportunity to make any changes you want.

You have until 7am PDT on 8/19/19 to make changes. I would highly advise you to do so. "

Haven’t read through the whole thread but I’ve read enough. I’ll just say I’m very surprised it’s taken until 2019 for WDWMAGIC members to even start to think about how and why we receive inside information, especially from accounts that have been posting for over a decade. And I’m surprised people are so shocked that Disney would do something like this.

They do a number of things like this.

Granted, elements of today’s article are news to me, but this kind of control in the online fan community is not news to me.

I generally just lurk here rather than posting, but I would like to say two things here:
1) attacking someone in the later stages of Parkinson's Disease is something a film villain would do in a movie that everyone derides as unrealistic
2) describing someone as a friend and then slagging them repeatedly in a public forum is just...well, it's a real-life demonstration of "with friends like these..."

I don't care about the drama or insider nonsense, but let's not overlook the most obvious part. The person who wrote that Medium article should aspire to be better as a person. Whether they're relishing in the drama right now or not, some voice in their head is giving them the Eleanor Shellstrop "this is wrong" message right now. They should listen to it.

@marni1971 posted in the DL sub forum topic to confirm he was indeed, a real Martin.

I never questioned his identity, more if he thought his sources were genuine or plants. I’ve always assumed that his sources had various perspectives.

Also curious on both @Lee and @marni1971 thoughts on @WDW1974 identity becoming public.

Adding that after seeing Martin’s responses in the DL thread I’m more concerned than I was originally. I think our world here is about to change dramatically.

I know Dustysage personally, and he is not paid by Disney. In fact, MiceChat was never invited to any press event that Disney held from its creation in 2005 all the way up to the premiere of Pixar Pier in 2018. MiceChat was blacklisted until the story broke about the LA Times being denied media credentials because of their negative reviews. When Disney resolved that they started inviting more Disney fan sites to media previews, even those that were historically critical of Disney.

This is fact. I have been with MiceChat since 2005, and I was the person Dustysage invited for the Pixar Pier media event. I can assure you that was the very first media event MiceChat ever attended.

While I do know this to be true as I know Dustysage (or I did for a time, he's definitely changed over the years), he did know people within Disney. I do know of a time where he's told me that GAP contacted him to get info on Pressler and he passed that on to Disney people. I also know that he knew that there were Disney people on his site pushing an agenda and he willingly let it happen.

I know I'm a new member and this is my first post, but I can't post on that other site to talk about this because he'd know my screenname right away even if I hadn't been there in a while. But I knew Dustysage very well for a number of years and he is (or at least he was when I knew him) very connected to people within WDC whether that was through Al or on his own.

I also met Al a handful of times and while he seemed eager to be critical of certain aspects of WDC, it wouldn't surprise me if he went along with pushing someone else's agenda.
