Expo's Spaceship Earth updates/report

What evidence do we have that there will be new scenes? I read the various threads, but I'm not sure what is just hyperbole/fantasy and what is real?

Personally I dont see any new scenes being added, just the effects turned on for the triangles and or lighting and or however its going to interact with the screens. However the peppers ghost area remains a mystery behind the curtains so maybe something of substance will happen there.

Perhaps, but one could enter their vehicle, select their language, then select where they are from, and then be asked by the male SSE control voice to answer some questions that will be used to create their future later on.

we have our picture taken and our screens turn off

I've timed this and from the moment we leave the infinite blue stars to the starburst triangles you could easily fit in the most popular video "leisure"...other videos I'm not so sure.

let's say, what if they showed our videos there as there are very few triangles and something is going on in peppers ghost, and then the screens turn off and we go down the rest of the descent where more triangles exist, etc and our screens only turn back on at the very end to show earth becoming SSE, announcing Project Tomorrow, and then reset for folks to select a language.

It would be fantastic that way!! But I cant see them leaving them off that long when they spent so much money Im sure to add them for the descent. But I love that idea and scenario.

or they spent money so that the screens would change and theme of the ride would change over the years of Siemen's sponsorship :lookaroun

let alone the current ending existed in a time when the only thing there was tight curtains stapled to eachother when I saw it all lit up during my evac in 2008, before they began removing them one by one and enhancing the descent

sort of like they crammed everything in the end via the screen as thats all they could do with it at the time. :zipit:

I hope

There was a ladder in the Siemens Corporate Lounge. The windows that face World Showcase are also blocked out. :lookaroun

you look up and see furniture pushed back and some ceilings and lights and notice that the windows are blocked out that face world showcase and there is a ladder and other material in the southern side of the lounge through the few windows that aren't blocked out

Hmm. Is it still used as a corporate lounge? I wonder where they house the computer systems needed to communicate with the new touch screens?

It was perfect the way it was before the rehab turned history into something comical.

Epcot wouldn't ever dare to make history comical, would they?

yes, there were press releases that the lounge is now called Base 21, theyre probably just repairing the ceiling or doing some light remodeling.

The computers are located within the SSE structure itself.

and Martin my video has just been sent to you, :sohappy:

I like your hypothesis Expo.

In my perfect world, here's how the touchscreens would be used:

1. We select our language, location, & questions in the ascent
2. Our picture is taken and then the screens are not used for the rest of the ascent.
3. Right before we arrive at the unload, the screen pops back on with the current SSE/Earth image and the promotion of Pro.Tom. Then, the announcer states "To see what your future holds be sure to visit <<insert clever name here>> kiosks in Pro.Tom.
4. We unload from the vehicle, head into Pro.Tom. see our smug up on the globe and head to one of what is currently the e-mail kiosks or to one of the many other new kiosks.
5. Using a facial recognition camera, the computer magically (remembering our responses) shows us "our future" on screen. Once it's done, it offers us the chance to email "our future".

To me, this would be the best use of the touchscreens and facial recognition software and would satisfy both the people who love and despise (for various reasons) the touchscreens . Of course, I'm sure it will probably never happen.

I'm a lurker here, but being an avid EPCOT fan, I really must ask what is so wrong with it? It is frustrating reading the uninformed and unintelligent comments on Youtube like "OMG disney went and ruined another ride what will they stop at i cant believe they would do this it is a destruction".

Being a Communication Studies major, I find the new script to be much more accurate than the old one. The new script connects each scene together more like a story. Judi makes each scene relevant to us ("Remember how easy it was to learn your ABCs? Thank the Phoenicians; they invented them" points to the fact that we are using the same alphabet they created instead of just some alphabet), the animatronics are upgraded and much better, etc.

Also having studied speech communications, Judi presents a warmer story of our history. She sounds like an actual tour guide or professor who is enthusiastic about her subject, instead of the soothing and flowing but downright pompous sound Jeremy Irons had.

Everything prior to hitting 180top is by far better than it had EVER been in the past. The descent needs work, but I do like how the touchscreens pay homage to Horizons in more ways than just one. Still, I think the focus should be on scenes around us instead of the touch screens. But let's remember that the touch screens allow us to interact with the ride -- to COMMUNICATE with it. For a ride about communications, this is important. Communication isn't a one way street that preaches to us like prior incarnations did, but rather a conversation about the way our world is. The touchscreens do a good job of implying this, and if they interact with the scenes around us (if we will indeed see new descent scenes), it will be truly amazing.

I think that some people just like to complain. I have not yet read one compelling and FACTUAL reason as to what was better about the Iron version.
Well said! I actually feel very much akin to your sentiments...but Irons was not pompous.:D

(and yes, the ride still focuses on communications, mostly.)

...Oh.

Im afraid its 2 differnet things.

World of Motion was designed from the ground up to be funny tahts why it was humorous.

Spaceship Earth was designed to be serious and majestic with very realisitic and serious set pieces. Now they add this lame narration to the ride to make it "COOL" "hip" "funny" and it just doesnt work.

Isnt it funny how on that USA-Siemens Epcot page how it shows a small city in the top left hand corner yet they took the glitter city out of the ride and ditched it. :brick: And yet they show a city scape very similair on their own site.

Thanks for posting that link that is the contact person listed to email if anyone wants to.

Thank you. SSE was never meant to have a humerous slant (yes, there is the sleeping monk, but that is it). Any attempt to make it such would require a complete overhaul of the set pieces, not just a new narration.

IMHO, SSE should strive to be inspiring, not humerous, and right now, its the worse thing of all - neither.
