I'd imagine anything built in this area will be more fitting for the area as a whole and not a misplaced IP.

Especially if it were to become the parks entrance.
But, considering GotG will be nearly at EPCOT’s entrance and the fact that a Marvel-themed hotel is doable (legally because of Uni’s theme park rights), such an IP would not really be out of place. With Disney announcing Marvel Lands coming to four of its world-wide theme parks, a Marvel hotel for WDW seems like a no-brainer.

Where exactly did you get this idea? The contract definitely suggests otherwise.

I thought as long as Disney keeps Marvel out of its WDW theme parks, it’s doable. This should include hotels (as long as the hotel is not inside a park).

There's a portion of the contract having to do with the 'retail' Marvel Action Universe that bans anything within 60 miles of IOA. That would most likely cover a resort.

Remember - the only way they are able to use Guardians is because 1) That team did not exist as such (completely different members) when this contract was put in place and 2) Disney can't use 'Marvel' to promote the ride or in the park.

Even if the resort was allowed, they wouldn't be able to use any character or team that IOA does at the resort.

Isn’t there a Marvel store in Disney Springs? Or planned?

I think this is a grey area. The retail concept sounds like it was supposed to combine retail with simulators and other attractions which would have made it a mini-themepark, thus the need to give Marvel an exception to the contract.
