IMHO it's too expensive for what you get. Newport and Sequoia are nicer. Again IMHO.
It's the ice rink that seals it for me (in winter obviously), otherwise I agree. But in general I can't help but think the "perks" for staying at one are very few.
My DS priced out a stay for him and 2 friends for 3 nights. Onsite it came to about £750 each, at one of the neighbour hotels it was more like £280. I've suggested he prices it out using our remaining DVC points for the year to get 3 nights at Sequoia, just to see what it comes out as, but I think even just tickets and Eurostar will be similar to offsite.
I really, really must go back. It was years ago we went, before we had kids. Only 1 park, and we just did a day out of a week in Paris. Time to go again
For a first timer to DLP, would you recommend DLH, then either Newport/Sequoia as being the best option?
We've always loved HNY, more so than SL and NBC because it's only half as big/crowded and the breakfast was significantly better. While the look of SL and NBC are very nice they get incredibly hectic. NBC and HNY now cost the same and breakfast is no longer included, so the equation has changed a bit. If you can afford it, by all means, stay at the DLH but it'll cost you about 3 times as much as the next option, or even more. Personal preference and the time of year are also a factor, with NBC being more of a Spring/Summer option for us and SL/HNY/DLH being good year-round options (cozy in Winter). And I'm stepping on thin ice correcting @marni1971 here, but the more expensive Montana rooms at SL are in the main building and the cheaper standard rooms are in the lodges. Golden Forest is the equivalent of club level and those are probably also all in the main building, but I'm not 100% sure.DLH if you're rich!
Sequoia is slightly cheaper than Newport, if that's not a factor it would be down to personal preference. Be aware at Sequoia the cheaper Montana rooms are in forest lodges, not the main building (a bit like Poly buildings) if that's a concern.
As for HNY: I haven't been able to find a timeline for the remodel (any hints?), so we're having a goodbye stay there in exactly two weeks just in case. I was yelling at my monitor when I was watching the D23 live stream in the middle of the night .
For those interested, here's a booking tip: subscribe to e-mails for different EU countries because the promotions are different (often better) and if you call they are legally obligated to allow you to book a promotion from another EU country. Minimum stay requirements to qualify for a promotion are different, too. Do note that booking windows in mainland countries open later than those in the UK, so you can't book a year in advance.
And to bring things back on topic: we've never had "issues" with the Paris DLH being above the entrance, nor has it ever distorted our view from the park. In fact, the light bulbs (when working) made the hotel an extension to Main Street at night. Of course, it was our first Disney park so for us it is the reference to compare others to, but it showed that it's definitely possible to make a hotel blend in. How well that would work with an existing park and its icon is a different question, though.
