Expedition Everest effects status watch

As far as "disco" Yeti goes, I thought (looking back to previous visits) I didn't mind because it's still a fun ride. Then last week I rode the Great Movie Ride and saw how well the Alien effect worked, and the same for the animatronic effects on Dinosaur. The next day I rode Everest and barely even saw the Yeti. I think if I had not known it was there, I wouldn't even have seen it! So yes, I felt disappointed and and think it's ridiculous that there are still TV programs that show the Yeti working in full mode, when it hasn't done so in years.

Update on Everest landscaping - still lots of blank land, especially from after the first lift to the second lift. Before, the sections of the ride were "divided" by walls of thick bamboo which gave the illusion of not circling around the same plot of land, but rather going on a journey. Now, you can clearly see the helix near the end of the ride as you make your way to the second lift. Also, before the second lift, you can clearly see an unthemed chain link boundary fence, and a big patch of land with nothing but sprinkler heads jutting out of the ground.

Maintenance building still very visible.

Remember that WDW has a tree farm on property for the exact purpose of quickly planting new trees and vegetation in place of old ones... yet Everest has sat like this since last summer.

Yeti update. We just got back and rode it multiple times both Monday and Tuesday. On Monday, the lighting for the Yeti was great and made it appear that he was moving and seemed to be leaning over the track (more than I saw in Oct 2011). On Tuesday, the lighting was so dim that you could barely see him. We found it odd that there was such a dramatic difference in one day.

The landscaping IMO isn't horrible except for seeing the building.

I wish there was a video online that gave a good idea of what it looked like before they chopped down all the bamboo, but all the videos I can find focus straight forward on the track.

You may have missed the large spots of blank land, too. Yes, there *is* landscaping, but considering that when they built Everest, they opted for just landscaping (outside of the mountain structure) rather than actual theming, the landscaping should be thick and full, not just some shrubs here and there.

Nearly 6 years and going strong for this thread. Pathetic. Why even construct show scenes?

What is even more sad is that we could have dozens of these threads going simultaneously for attractions all over WDW.

YouTube titled: Expedition Everest Ride -Up Close- Disney Animal Kingdom 2012, first video I've found with the bamboo cut, Wow! I still don't understand why they did this, but also I noticed that when the train pulled in to load it seemed normal size and then once the ride starts (maybe I've gone mad, which is highly possible) but it seemed that the train was a lot shorter.

This video?

They filmed themselves getting into the back of the train but cut to a different trip where they were in the 2nd row.

The landscaping does look a lot better now than in that video. Here's a new video from one month ago:

It's mostly re-landscaped now with short shrubs, however the maintenance building is still visible as you can see in the first part of the video, and there's a big patch of blank land you can kind of see in this video just before the second lift on the right side (which I only knew to look for in this video because I rode recently and it bugged me, lol)

Here's a video from one year ago that shows all the bamboo trees:

I rode this for my very 1st time this trip, and with all the Yeti talk I thought there was more than the literally 2 seconds of viewing time at the end of the ride.

As of 15 April 2007:

- No steam effect at load
- Second waterfall not running (near the back of the mountain)
- No bird at the track end scene

As of 23 Feb 2013:

- No steam effect at load (but it was later in the day and it alway seems to die after about noon)
- Second waterfull working great. Been a long time since I have seen both on
- No bird on a stick
- Projection clean and crisp
- Strobe for what its worth looked great, as close to seeing it in A mode I have seen in a long time
- LOTS of cut back areas exposing backstage areas. First time I actually could see Kali River logging area while riding.
- prayer flags (really just all props on ride) need to be changed out, they have lost all color.

prayer flags are supposed to fade and unravel.. that is the point of hanging them. It's correct show, and they ARE replaced frequently in Asia.

The prayers of a flag become a permanent part of the universe as the images fade from exposure to the elements. Just as life moves on and is replaced by new life, Tibetans renew their hopes for the world by continually mounting new flags alongside the old. This act symbolizes a welcoming of life's changes and an acknowledgment that all beings are part of a greater ongoing cycle.

The Imagineers actually made a big deal about correctly weathering them. They were made of nylon to last a good while, but nylon does not really weather like cotton or wool or any other natural fiber. If I am not mistaken they wound up putting them along with some rocks in clothes dryers to get the desired effect.
