Expedition Everest effects status watch

I did and my comment, which was respectful and referenced that I love the ride, did not make it through moderation. However, someone else got their Yeti comment to get approved.

I was thinking that if someone was going to comment on it that they'd have to really be a bit of a fluffer at the same time:

"Expedition Everest is just so magical! I remember when it first opened and how magical it was that the Yeti would reach down to try to grab you as you passed by. It made my whole day magical! Is there any chance that they might sprinkle some pixie dust on the Yeti to get him moving again so that my family can re-experience that magic? MAGICAL!"

In reference to the hair ties, Disney really should clean them up.
They remind me of the "broken windows" policy that Mayor Giuliani enacted in NYC.
That is; if people see something damaged - broken windows, graffiti, garbage etc., they are more inclined to do the same - and add to it. (Not to mention the psychological impression of things not being taken care of)
People throw hair ties partially because they see hair ties and reflexively add to the pile.

When I rode Everest in January, there were hundreds of hair ties up there. When I rode again this last weekend, there were maybe 30. So I'm guessing they did a full clean-up, only to have idiots throwing new ones up there.

Oh, and the steam was working wonderfully this past weekend!

They should setup a system that targets those who throw hair ties and shoots ties back at them at super high speeds. Right in the forehead... One hit in the head and they wouldn't do that again...

Also, my comment made the blog! Most the comments are about fixing the yeti.

The backwards portion is definitely not as good as it was once. The light leaking in ruins the illusion that your spiraling through a mountain cavern, but instead a room full of metal supports
Nothing has ever been changed that would affect this, though. The only factor is the time of day and the angle of the sun.

An interesting fact that you guys may not realize is that, during that backwards portion, you actually are inside of an enclosed tunnel that is within the mountain structure. The light leak comes from gaps in the mountain structure. It is visible in the "tunnel" because of the gap between the actual track and the tunnel structure.

I haven't ridden EE during my last 2 visits to WDW. I haven't even visited Animal Kingdom. Now, if EE were up to snuff (fixed Yeti) then THAT would give me a reason to visit. But as the ride and the park is now, who needs them? Yes, the park is pretty, there's lots of shade on a hot, sunny day, and the Tree of Life is fun, but that's not reason enough to pull me away from Magic Kingdom or Epcot (DHS used to be my favorite park, but yeah, not anymore.)

i certainly respect the way you feel and understand some, but for me and my family, its just not that way. my kids are 21 and 16 and we have been lucky enough to have visited WDW more than 6 times in those years (we feel like we know the place OK). they have grown up loving WDW and Disney in general. we are always talking about our next trip and what we will do. i cannot imagine missing a park. even during the changes and construction, we like to see what is being done and how it is being done. we miss the things we love that go away but embrace the new, too. every park has our "must dos". AND because it is far enough between visits, there is always something different and just great. i guess for people that live near and have annual passes it may be different, but the year i had annual passes was the year that made us love it all. nothing gets old for us. Yes we get frustrated when things like the yeti happen. we don't understand how its not been fixed yet. EE is still one of our must dos.

How about having a CM on the ride all the time, where if they saw someone throwing a hair tie, the CM would whip out a water pistol and spray the person?

Even though, I have never seen the ride running in its full glory, I still enjoy it very much. I have yet to even see the Yeti properly through the disco lights. :(

I don't know, I saw a post on another site that insisted once Pandora is open EE closes for a long refurb. Wishful thinking IMO but hope springs eternal

The only flaw here is that AK closed at 5;00 all this time and it was never repaired. They have had chances to fix it but haven't. I'm hoping the whole ride goes down after avatar since it's never had a refurbishment. But that may be wishful thinking.

is this thread finally dead? OR is it just in hibernation awaiting Avatar Land to get finished to see if the referb is right around the corner. i don't believe they will ever fix the yeti! who even cares anymore?

Supposedly they're just going to dismantle the current yeti and build a new one
That's what they've been saying for a while. Other scenarios I've heard are:
  • Replace yeti with 3D projection :grumpy:
  • Fix yeti to Full A Mode once Avatar opens
  • Fix yeti to limited motion (Arm and possibly minimal swipe)

  • Replace yeti with new AA that won't cause same problems as original figure

I see them leaving it as-is. Even if they do a major refurb on Everest, I think the Yeti will, at best, be cleaned up (skin taken off and maybe the bits that have wear that help with his limited movement refurbished). I don't see them ever fixing it. When it was part of the new ride and a major show piece in the ride it was important. Now that it's just "there" and people are going to ride the ride regardless there's no will to fix it and certainly no budget to fix it. People are going to fly by it on the coaster either way so, in their financial minds, it doesn't make sense to rip part of the mountain open so that they can remove it, remove any track that's in the way, remove the Yeti, break apart the foundation it sits on, and then re-pour it. I just don't see that ever happening.

Cleaning up the Yeti, sure.

Regardless of the intent by TDO to fix the yeti, they do not have to "rip open the mountain". The Yeti is completely removable without disturbing the rest of the ride structure. They aren't replacing it right now because most people are "okay" with the Yeti as-is. My belief (complete speculation) is that once Avatar is complete then TDO may, I stress mayyyy pull the Yeti out in favor of putting it back in the ride in limited motion capability.
