Thrawn got the boot? Are you serious? I wish.
I find it quite sad actually. Somehow I knew it was going to happen eventually. Thrawn and I usually got along. We've had worse around here.

Judging by nearly every picture and the reported top speed, I don't see how EE's drop can TRULY be 112 feet. The 32 foot difference from nearly every previous report on the ride's drop is just a bit odd. Didn't the original press release from 2003 state an 80 foot drop??

the original press release didnt quote any specifics. You can have a look at it here http://www.wdwmagic.com/everest_pressrelease.htm :)

The 80ft that is largely reported on the internet, I think actually originated on http://www.wdwmagic.com/everest_ridesystem.htm (see the May 2003 update). Now at that time, this information was given to me by someone working on the project, but was based on early plans. The facts are that in November 2005, WDI and Disney Press information are all saying 112ft. :) Nothing is reported on the main WDWMAGIC site without it being confirmed by multiple people (who I trust), or if its wild rumor, it is stated as such.

Could it be 2 drops equaling 112 feet.

LOL no it isnt. The item I am reporting on is that the largest drop is 112ft, which is the drop that you see exiting the mountain.

Wow... it's amazing how everything you read can just sort of merge themselves together. I could have sworn it was in the press release. It reminds me of that time I was reading Great Expectations and Harry Potter at the same time Freshman year of high school and I started waiting for the characters in Great Expectations to unleash a magic spell to make everything better. :D

If you are really MasterYoda you would need none of those things mentioned above.

Ya. The ride story walkthrough was announced by Disney so it has a 112ft drop and a max speed of 50 mph.

OK I'll need a Republic gunship and I will force free fall to the site measure the drop with a Bothan range finder and Jedi mind trick my way out of jail.

But suddenly the track ends in a gnarled mass of twisted metal and the thrills intensify as the train races both forward and backward -- at speeds up to 50 miles per hour -- through mountain caverns and icy canyons and guests head for an inevitable face-to-muzzle showdown with the mysterious yeti (known to some as the abominable snowman).
ummm, i thought it had been updated to 55 mph. Am i wrong?

I think they are counting the height inside the mountain also, the two highest points inside the mountain (trackwise, that is) is after both trackswitches. After the backwards section, you go up into a ice cave and sit there while trackswitch changes, so if you are in the back next to the engine, you are at 112 ft. And then they drop you and then you come out of the ice cave and then go outside and then drop 80 ft. I think the 80 ft drop is the part outside, but if you count inside then it is 112 ft. It is not one continuous drop, the train drops and picks up speed and then crosses the trackswitch and you go outside for the big portion of the drop. Here is a inside photo.

A thought on speed - wont they not know the "official" speed until it begins operation or atleast regular testing? Certainly math gets you to a certain point of the "realm of possibility" but real vehicles on a warm and lubricated track with full loads in the summer are going to move the fastest, no?
