I could swear Rainforest has a contract with the park... like, for so many years, they are the only table service eatery for lunch & dinner... Maybe that contract is up now?

I think the reason there aren't any sit down restaurants is that the park closes so early they wouldn't have much of a dinner business.

I see that when we are going to be there (5/12-19) AK will only be open til like 5:30.

Even once EE opens there will not be enough non-animal attractions in the park to keep it open very much later. I think we are about 3 more D to E level attractions away from an "Studios" level of activities for people to do after dark (dark being the key because most of the animals are not active and or visible.)

Hopefuly they will be thinking ahead and putting in a sitdown restaurant, it would be an awsome addition.

The two reasons we have been told that DAK doesn't stay open late is:

1. The animals. The claim that the late nights would be disruptive to the animals. My reply, whatever

2. The lighting. This I agree with. DAK at night is just way too dark. Once again, this is for the animals. It isn't a good idea having tons of people walking around the park late at night unless they really increase the lighting.

There is some hurdles to get over to allow night time operation at DAK, but it might be possible in closing the park in phases. Time will only tell.

Couldn't they build an alternate Dinoland entrance that is open at night so that everyone could bypass the animals and just stay in Dinoland/Everest?

That would seem logical. and it's not that far, you can see the Dinosaur building from the parkinglot. Just have the tram go over there at night or something.

i heard on the way over to Rafikis that that the park doesnt saty open that late b/c they gotta feed the animals and if they dont have the time they wont get fead

excuses excuses....

My wife and I last year had an annual pass to the San Diego Wild Animal Park and San Diego Zoo.

Although I've never visited AK...because we have zoos near us....(Itizazoo) I can tell you that the animals are at their best around 4...well, when the sun sets. The cats are up, prowling around and the giraffes, zebras, rhinos etc are fun to watch at dinner time.

As per disturbing the animals with lights? They have night time shows at many zoos...where they light up the park with all sorts of christmas lights, or summer themed lighting around the park...pictures of the animals in lights...fun stuff.

So...I don't believe the whole 'let's not disturb the animals' bit...when they are just getting up (the cats) at around 5pm.

At night (9pm) San Diego Zoo and especially Wild Animal park had lights on. In fact, they had an artificial moon (big floating baloon with bright white light) to light parts of the park.

Its called, the park sucks, no one goes, and why not save even more money by not keeping it open! (vicious cycle those bean counters create!).

Animal Kingdom is great. But compared to its size, it's only a day long park. The park just needs more rides and attractions. And Camp Minnie Mickey should be baleeted for a much better land. And lion king should be moved to Africa.

But then again, there a several huge areas lying empty that can hold entire lands. But lets see each area has very little must do's.

Oasis- Nothing
Discovery Island- It's Tough to be a Bug
Camp Minnie Mickey- Lion King
Africa- Kilasomething Safaris
Planet Watch- Exhibits
Asia- River Rapids / Everest
Dinoland- Dinosaur (Primevil whril isn't much of a must do. In fact, my local Six Flags I believe is getting a clone)

I say another rollecoaster to grab the Bush Audience. More small attractions in Dinorama for the little ones. Another Africa ride for park balance. River Rapid expansion to compete with Popeye, and another water ride because Animal Kingdom is the hottest and most humid of the parks.

And some sit down restaurants.

The Animal Kingdom has stayed open until midnight. There's no real reason they can't stay open late. They're just making excuses.

I dunno, but with the large live animal population, I'd feel more comfortable being able to see them in person. The latest I know AK's been open for regular day guests has been 8pm... the only times I've seen AK at midnight is during special events, and even then only areas with little/no animals remained open

you had a bunch of really good points in there..... thanks for pointing some of those out.

..i also agree with everyone who says AK [and it's animal attractions] could stay open much later. you see, here at our local busch gardens park, they have a mini-version of kilimanjaro safaris [rhino rally] and as far as i know, it stays open until park close [anywhere between 8 and 10]

..i would personally love to see AK open much later, it would be neat to see the park at night and in lights for once.

Rhino Rally closes at dusk on nights when the park is open late, usualy around 6-7pm depending on the time of year.

well, I for one have ridden it later than that, so perhaps that was a rare occasion. either way though, even 7:00 is considerably later than AK's usual 5:00.
