Hey I have a question about Rhino Rally? Does a person drive it or is it computer controlled?

it's a person. just picture it as a mini, [very] mini-version of kilimanjaro safaris. the ride itself is actually a really neat concept, however it's simply way to short, and you see too few animals. if you MUST ride this attraction.. i'm hoping you havent spoiled yourself by riding kilimanjaro safaris first. KS makes any other similar type ride look pathetic -no other safari ride i've ever been on even comes close to KS at AK. ...except ofcourse, the real thing.

Thank you for the information, Bill. I do NOT think it's shameless plugging of your site. It was just an easy way to share all the pictures for us to see. Why not send the link instead of taking the time to upload them somewhere else?

Seems like there are a few people on here who take offense to anything. And then a few more who encourage the people who start the conflict. It's just conflict for conflict's sake--a small group of people who thrive on hurting others. Give it a break, will you?

I know we are all trying to be like Peter Pan and never grow up, but a bit of maturity here and kindess would go a long way.

Dave, it's been open that late before for special events, but seldom (if ever) any areas that have major animal interaction. Usually just Dinoland and Camp Minnie-Mickey.

Dinosaur though has really longs lines so it is almost worthless to stay on those special occasions.

2006? Those number in bold letters are depressing.

Feel sorry for you guys, at least the DLR people have an attraction that's finishing up.

Building the walkway up to that resort is like torture.

AK had late night opening around CHristmas 2000. I did Kilimanjaro Night Safaris in pitch black. It was an awesome experience. Whole new storyline to the ride, and extensive use of on-vehicle spot lights. It was was a great ride, and will be a great addition once AK has longer operating hours in the future.

I just got back from Walt Disney World, and I went to AK on Friday. I'm not sure if it's true or not, but a CM near the bridge said I was the frist guest to cross it

Anyways, I'll have a trip report and pictures and everythign up soon

Some notes reading thru:

It isn't for feeding the animals, as they are normally feed in their holding pens, not in the park.

Disney tries to keep the animal care at DAK at a higer level than even the top zoos.

We do have the park open after hours on occasion, but only for very special occasions (conventions, holidays, etc.) Its not that bad for the animals to have it every once in a while. Doesn't hurt you to stay up really late every once in a while, right? But what if you only got a couple of hours sleep every night for several months/years?

I think people tend to forget that the animals day is much longer than the park hours. They are up much earlier than the park opening to get moved into their respective area of the park, and for a morning check-up. Plus, they stay up much later than the park closing to be moved into their holding areas, to be fed, and to recieve another check=up. We are open in the summer from 8AM-7PM. That's 11 hours. The animals probally have a 15-17 hours day on that schedule.
