so lame that HEA was waxed because Harmonious muscled in on the majority of the songs. I like Disney songs as much as the next fan, but geez guys, figure that out!

Maybe they can send the tacos over to Paris for the lake they're building and figure out how to lower and raise them.

Having the show look good around the lagoon will offer them more dining packages and viewing locations. Is Rose and Crown still changing to a lounge then?
Currently Rose and Crown is scheduled to become dinner service only starting next week.

So, if they have a (tentative) designer selected, does that mean it's not already in development like Josh said at D23? This whole debacle is so fascinating.
I'd imagine the heavy stuff like infrastructure and logistics have been figured out, but the actual concept of the show is still being figured out with pyro chorography coming sometime down the road.

It would be interesting to see if they try to take the IP approach again, because for as much criticism as it has, Harmonious in it's current form is the only way I could see IP being used in a World Showcase lagoon show without feeling completely out of place. I think the whole "Disney songs in their native language" schtick is doing the absolute bare minimum, but I'd be curious to see how else they would try to incorporate IP without doing the same thing all over again (or something even worse). Leads me to believe they will attempt an original score unless it's just going to be Harmonious 2.0 with different songs used.

They have to use IP because it's one of Bob's tent poles and he won't budge on it. Nothing gets built without being an IP - simple as that.

That's really unfortunate. I knew of the IP mandate but I guess I just grossly underestimated how little wiggle room there actually is. I can see it though. In retrospect, if we're seeing it be pushed on smaller projects like restaurants and hotel rooms, I can't imagine they'd budge on one of their nighttime spectaculars.

I understand why the mandate exists from a business standpoint (i.e. why they think it's a good idea/important) but it's such a misreading of what made the parks so popular in the first place -- many (if not most) of Disney World's best attractions wouldn't exist if the mandate had always been in place, among other things.

It also lowers overall quality. Not because using IP inherently makes for worse attractions, restaurants, etc., but because it hamstrings creativity. There's a significant loss of freedom to make the best possible product when designers are put into a box and only allowed to do certain things. There's certainly nothing wrong with using IP when it makes sense (and IP has always been part of Disney World), but forcing it leads to some mediocre designs.

I hope that whatever IP is used is done appropriately and very sparingly. Epcot is about the real world and cultures, our differences, and our achievements. I always thought that the next Epcot show following illuminations would be all the countries of world showcase lagoon coming together in unison and song, or some version of that. Something where different instruments from different cultures from world showcase came together to create a unifying song. There is the music of nature, the music of different cultures, and some songs that cross borders that is universally loved around the world.

I don't think it would be difficult to improve on the garbage pile that HARModious is. As was mentioned before it opened - It's a technical tour-de-force. But it has no pace, no story, movie clip after movie clip, nothing to make sure you're looking at the right thing at the right time... all the tricks, save one, are shown off in the first minute or two.

What a disgraceful waste of time, energy, effort, and money. #ThanksBob

The site that shall not be named has a rumor posted that the barges will be removed and not used in the replacement show. They also said drones will be used like in Paris. I'm not big on the drones, but I hope they are right on the barges being removed.
I am curious to see how the drones would work. If they do bring them they need to play an actual role in the show and be something worth looking at over what's going on in the lagoon. It can't just be some colorful patterns, there needs to be 2020 Tokyo Olympics opening ceremony levels of display going on.

I don't know about drones but the barges being removed lines up with what I've heard elsewhere. Makes sense as they were probably the most divisive part, although it wouldn't have been so divisive if Disney would have been able to move them in and out everyday...
