News EPCOT's Harmonious to be replaced with new nighttime spectacular Luminous

Harmonious COULD have worked had they just spent the extra money to expand the backstage harbor to dock the barges during the day instead of throwing up their hands, anchoring the beasts, then installing a half-@$$’d daytime fountain mode.

Alas, they’re now discovering that an ounce of prevention is far cheaper than a pound of cure.

***edited for clarity
They could have also designed something stationary that would lower or collapse in some way to not look so bad during the day and then just run some water affects or something

How embarrassing! Disney spent all this money on this brand new show and equipment just to take down shortly after. They need to take a hard look at how they spend money. Come on DIS, be better than this. You used to be.
It lasted longer then Splashtacular ;)

Unpopular Take: If it’s Drones I don’t want them.

Weather and mechanical/maintenance issues would means it will be in B mode or worse yet, Disco Yeti mode when operations does their usual magic.

This is from the page here about Flixels and associated weather restrictions

A requirement of a wind speed of less than 10mph and no rainfall would make the system not available for daily operations at Walt Disney World.

Don't go there...... Another show that should have gotten much more respect!!!! Esp. since it was right out of TDL's Playbook!!!!! , Never saw it in person so never saw how much of a Zoo Crowds were....
Tokyo used their (large) castle stage. Futureworld - and park entry / egress - virtually ground to a halt.

It actually had better ratings than RoE for pre-schoolers, grade school and teenagers.

See @lentesta post from another thread:

Harmonious was doomed when the daytime fountains couldn't mass the ugliness during the day.

They could have made some tweaks to improve the show for the older demographics, but it wouldn't solve the daytime views. If the barges were mobile from the beginning, the show likely would have had tweaks and been salvaged.
There is also the problem of having to be in very specific locations to get a good view of the show, where you had to stalk out space at least a half hour before and not buy any beer or food while you were stuck there. That means fewer guests willing to wander WS near park close and less money. On top of that, the best of those few good locations removed the revenue generated by the Frozen dessert party.

i've said this before but the show should have ended with the full version of we've just begun to dream ("the world awaits! celebrate! a new tomorrow!" etc) as a finale. it'd serve as a bookend to the opening of the show, hearken back to the opening of epcot and serve as a mission statement for the future - we're only just beginning
YES! THIS!!

If only they could discover a round, 3-dimensional shape that is visible from all directions? They could even project the continents onto it.

Oh, well. The search continues for such a shape. Half of WDI is currently on a research trip to remote areas of India to search for one.
Guests aren't going to look at some non-descript sphere, themed to Earth or whatever

My guess is longer than you'd expect or want and not just because they're being lazy.

There was barely room for them backstage during construction and they've obviously not expanded this area during the life of the show since it has gotten even less use as a result of them being permanently anchored.

They'll probably take them out one at a time and deal with getting them dismantled and hauled out before moving onto the next one which will probably be time-consuming - especially if they have any plans for these bardges or any of the major components that they'd like to still keep partially intact/usable.

I have to imagine these things aren't just heading to a recycle facility or the Atlantic as the start of a new artificial reef so some care will probably need to be taken.
Is there a lake in Lake Nona 😆?

Leaving EPCOT last night I said to my wife it’s probably my favorite thing out of the 50th.
I don't see why this would be discontinued. They've already invested in the lights on SSE as well as in the entrance plaza to sync with broadcast music. Just keep it going.
