Epcot WS Drunks

Well i know this is a long debated topic on these boards, but i'll throw my 2 cents in anyway.....

I'm 21 years old, i am legally permitted by law to consume alchoholic beverages, whether it be inside of a bar, or inside of a Disney park in which it's offered. That being said.... that law does not entitle me to act like an ahole, be as loud and obnoxious as i want, and certainly i should not take advantage of the situation. There will be people though who think this way and spoil it for the rest of us. To those people i say... Grow up, act like an adult. An opportunity to enjoy an adult beverage does not equal "do whatever i feel like and offend children". Seriously, you're a grown up, act like it

21 eh? Give it 2 years then answer the question again.

I haven't really noticed a correlation between PI being closed and the number of drunks at WS increasing, but I have noticed from random conversations over the years that the number of people who make "drinking around the world" a part of their vacation has risen. I gather that it's just a trend establishing itself at Epcot, and one that has several factors: basically half of Epcot shuts down at dusk, funneling people into WS; alcohol isn't nearly as prevelent at other parks, and the more people know about other people doing it the more they want to try it themselves. Not to mention it's a pretty good time.

Actually, this is my fault for the wording. What I meant was... I am of legal age, which is 21. I am actually 30 years of age, so no need for me to give it 2 years then answer the question again.

Wow every sporting event I have been to in Philly was been terrible because 99% of the people act directly opposite of you What’s up with Philly?

:ROFLOL: Very good! This is a whole different thread-worthy topic in itself.. but for a different forum of course. Anyway, you get no debate from me on this one... Philadelphia fans are #1 offenders of what the OP was trying to get his/her point across about.

And being a "child" doesn't have to mean screaming your head off to a point that it's noticeable to people within 50 feet of you either but they are never escorted out of the park.
huge difference between an "adult" getting drunk at a family place and a child screaming. you'd think the adult would actually know the difference between right and wrong but i guess not in some cases.:sohappy:

This thread is interesting to me -- I can honestly say that I don't think I have ever seen a seriously drunk person in WS, at least, not to the point where they seemed to be causing disruptions to other guests. Maybe I'm just not there at the right times, or maybe I'm just not paying enough attention. We usually get drinks there but most of the time it's just way too hot outside for me personally to contemplate drinking mass quantities.

Certainly if someone's causing a scene they should be dealt with appropriately, just like they should be anywhere else.

There is absolutely nothing wrong with responsible adults having a few drinks at EPCOT. My hubby and I love to have dinner at Tutto Italia and share a nice bottle of wine and I will usually at some point have a glass of Rosa Regale at Califonia grill etc.

We will also sometimes have a margarita from Mexico while we walk around WS.

Disney is no different than any other place in the WORLD that sells alcohol. You are always, in any situation, going to have a few bad apples. That is just part of life. I personally have encountered MUCH more obnoxious people at a baseball game, Mardi Gras, or even at some restaurants. i hve never had a bad experience at EPCOT with my family seeing something they shouldn't.

I feel bad for those who have, but I Definitely do not see it as this huge problem. As a matter of fact, if I had to make a list of things at Disney that annoy me, this wouldn't even make the list.

Nothing wrong with people getting drunk as long as they don't act like dummies (to put it lightly).
Unfortunately, most people have zero self control when they're drunk.

I may say some stupid things, talk a lot, maybe get a little rowdy (random Ole Ole Ole chants anyone?) when I drink, but I wouldn't normally do anything that one would consider "kick out of the park" bad. At the parks though, whenever I've been drunk, I just chill with my friends and see the sights. It's a great time.

Plus Disney probably doesn't mind a few drunks. Alcohol is an easy source of income for them.

I think what constitutes a disruption is dependent on context. And at Disney World, the most important aspect of context is the audience.

Something that might be acceptable at someplace like Citywalk, or fraternity row in a college town, could certainly be considered disruptive at someplace like Epcot's WS, where as a general rule you are always within earshot of at least one child young enough to be in a stroller.

The example of a group of 20-somethings having a peaceful, if slightly loud, good time and doing nothing worse than laughing and dropping the occasional conversational F-bomb (something I see almost every visit during Food & Wine) - comes immediately to mind. I'm out of my 30s and don't have any kids, so it doesn't really affect me. But I find myself cringing nonetheless, because we are invariably surrounded by others whom I can't imagine, given the choice, would have their kids seeing and hearing that during the family vacation. And suggesting that such people should stay out of that park is simply nonsense.

My god people this stuff happens every day wherever you go. WDW is great in fact the best but you need to remind your self that it is a theme park.

It's unavoidable for children to hear cursing. Whether it's the parents, tv, or random people outside. It's going to happen. I personally wouldn't care if my kids heard it (I don't have kids, but in the future when I do). It's a matter of the parents raising their kids in a way that they don't make it a part of their speech or at the very least not a major part.

Exactly this isn't 1950 your kids are going to hear it. As long as you teach them it is wrong and not act like that they will be fine.

The problem is that in today's world, people would rather everyone else parent their kids rather than themselves.

I agree that the drunks who push people and act like imbiciles shouldn't be in a park. However, if people are drinking, being a little loud, and having a bit of a potty mouth, is it really a big deal? Let people have fun. They paid for their ticket, just like everyone else. They also are paying for their booze. Let em be. As long as they don't do anything to harm or insult anyone or cause a scene, pass out, puke everywhere, etc. it shouldn't be an issue.

Is it me or has anyone else noticed more intoxicated people at WS since the closing of PI? At our 4th of July stay I couldn't help notice more people walking around pie-eyed.Not cool when there are a lot of kids present.

I may be oblivious to it, or maybe just think that the people falling down have equillibrium problems, but I hadn't noticed.

Well Epcot is my favorite park bc of the beer. Im 28 years old and work for "goverment" so I know my limit.
Anyway, I love to go there and drink as many beers as I can, why, well bc I can handle myself. I have seen on some occasions annoying 21-25 year olds hammered beyond belief jumping in fountains etc....

It really annoys me to all extent. I have also seen adults that cant control themselves. To me there is "drunk" where you can have fun and enjoy yourself and there is "beligerent drunk" where you start to annoy others around you.

On a parting note, I think its the responsibility of the adult to really think about where he is getting "beligerent drunk" at and remember that there children that the drunk will not remember but to that child that drunk will always be a memory.

Hi my name is testtrack321 and I'm a World Showcase Drunk.

I drank around the world a few weeks ago. I was functioning at the end and got myself back to the resort a-ok.

I've seen people who are stone cold sober act worse and say worse than those hammered. And even then, not every person reacts the same to alcohol. Some people get violent, some silly, some chase after who they are attracted to, while others just get emotional (that's me.)

I'm in college, I'm in a fraternity, and I enjoy my alcohol. I know my limits, I know how to handle myself, and I watch my mouth.

There are people who always will be offended by alcohol, and there will be people who take one sip and start shoving and cursing. It won't change the fact I had fun, was respectful, and met lots of new friends.
