Epcot rumor per Jim Hill...

Armchair Imagineering is boring enough, but man if I hear "rat ride in France pavilion" one more time, Im gonna puke out of my eyeballs. Not saying it wouldnt fit , but people keep regurgitating it as if it hast been brought up a million times, despite that its been said by "top men" (oh Marni, I miss you..) that its not on the table
Beauty and the Beast in France ;)

Seriously though, this was more than enough toon for France and was pretty tasteful imo.

They aren't rumors, they are just his musings. He just sort of thinks out loud, strings together some "what ifs" into a paragraph, remembers the gossip he heard from a Poly bartender or Epcot loop bus driver, and then presents them as a thing that might happen at WDW.

In Mr. Hill's defense, I do the same thing. But usually it's when I'm sitting in traffic and I don't put those thoughts on a website.
Huh. I did the same thing by thinking of Avatar in Animal Kingdom before it was announced. Also the announcement of a sequel to a video game that seemed very unlikely to ever get one. I guess I'm an insider.
With the announcement that GotG is coming to Epcot, I have lost all hope for the original ideals of EPCOT Center to return. I have finally reached the acceptance stage of the grief process. The spirit is gone. The wonder and inspiration are gone.

All I can hope for now is that they build IP attractions that will be quality, even if misplaced. I can't believe I am saying this, but EPCOT Center is dead and the sooner we realize it, the better.
I'm right there with you.

What about Canada, ANYTHING for Canada! (I'm biased) Or UK. But there is not much room behind UK because of world showplace, and I doubt they would remove that revenue. Lots of room behind Canada though, and between France and Morocco.

I'm more comfortable using IPs if they're used as a sort of primer to a country's culture or history. If the Canada pavilion wanted to update their film to include the moose from Brother Bear, but used them as a way to talk about Canadian history or actual Canadian folklore or legends, it would be an entertaining way to do it...it would also be ironic because the moose are based on the Bob & Doug MacKenzie characters Dave Thomas and Rick Moranis created for SCTV, and they were created specifically as a rebuttal to criticism from the CBC that, by satirizing so much American culture, the show wasn't "Canadian" enough. The reaction was along the lines "most of the cast and production crew are Canadian and we shoot in Canada. What else do we need to do to make it Canadian - have two guys wearing toques and drinking beer in front of a giant map of Canada?" And boom, legends are born.

But back on topic, if Remy from Ratatouille was used as a conduit to talk about French culture or history, I wouldn't find that to be a bad thing (and anything that gives Patton Oswalt a smidge more work, I'm down with it, poor guy). If Mulan did a brief history of China, great, if it were real history (which is a bone of contention with the Frozen Ever After attraction). And use IPs in Future World much the same way, like the Nemo overlay in Living Seas, if it satisfies the original plan to educate AND entertain, even if the delivery method is not what WD himself preferred.

Good points unlike the Frozen ride. At least the Stave Church Frozen exhibits point back to Norway.

Coco as it stands is FAR more appropriate for the Mexico Pavilion than our 3 bird friends whose only tie to the pavilion is one character of the group being from there if we are being perfectly honest here. That said they would have to do MAJOR reworking as the queue for the caballero's ride is nonexistent and can barely even handle a 20 minute wait. Also this is another ride being taken out in place of another one so I don't know how that will help frozen in the slightest. What the world showcase needs is a ride in a pavilion that has none.
More appropriate. But still not appropriate.

Ummmm...... Canada had lumberjacks with chainsaws, and an extremely long running and beloved musical act. Give somebody else a turn!

I said this is another thread, but my points are/were:
  • Jim Hill correctly predicted the new AA's going into Grand Fiesta Tour. IIRC he predicted this years in advance so clearly he has a good source for this area of the parks.
  • Epcot needs something to draw or split crowds away from Frozen Ever After. Jim made it sound as if this was Disney's solution to that problem; that was the context in which this was brought up. So, I think we're talking about a ride.
  • In the short term, that means losing the only other ride in the World Showcase while the remaining one has the longest waits in Orlando. Yikes.
  • It also (if reusing the Fiesta Tour ride) means Disney has not learned from Frozen Ever After's issues of low capacity. I think Disney needs to build a people-eater, maybe one with rats in Paris, but Jim hinted this might not come until 2021.
  • The Three Caballeros add nothing to the existing ride, and the Coco IP seems like it could be a perfect (and authentic) fit. I welcome the change.
  • If this is coming to the park in fall 2017, which is hard to believe, then that's such a compressed timeline that I don't expect much. I predict updates to Fiesta Tour's screens, mostly, with a replacement AA ending. Most of Three Caballeros were installed digitally too. How long was that refurb?
Rats in Paris in 2021.... That is what I've heard.

The Good Dinosaur.

The only reason Remy is no longer in France is because of a dispute between Disney and the restaurant over who was going to pay the performer's salary.

Yeah a Coco overlay has been discussed for Mexico's ride but I'm sure the Mouse will hold off to see the popularity of the film first.
I can only imagine mixed feelings an IP focused on Dia de los Muertos (Day of the Dead) may have since the subject matter and some of the art might be deemed inappropriate or scary to little ones. Personally I would love to see it happen since I do enjoy the festival cleary by the tattoos that cover my body and my avatar. However I think its time the the MOuse start showing love to the other countries and building new experiences to alleviate the crowds on the part of World Showcase.
