EPCOT Entertainment cuts

According to an official response from Disney, after the existing acts close, "New experiences are planned to make their debut in the following months. We’ll feature each new group on Disney Parks Blog as they open." So, based on how fast 7DMT was built, how well the parking garages are coming along and the blinding speed at which Avatarland is being constructed, I'd say the new acts should begin sometime in the next year or two.

And of course...this means everyone will get to walk by a row of potted shrubs for a screen at the stages...or most likely just an empty stage, for months while we wait for the watered down new entertainment options...

So sad to read Off-Kilter will be no more at EPCOT. Our favorite group that we have seen perform well over a 100 times since 1999. Jamie, Mark, Randy, Jason, Scotty and the many subs recently, you all will be missed; as was Tony who left the group over a year ago now. I doubt a lumberjack-inspired trill show will last long. How exciting is it to watch someone throw axes at a target, or saw a log in half? The Drum and Fife group has been around since the beginning of EPCOT in 1982. Always a heart warming experience. My wife and I have grown old with them, but sadly all things must end. God Bless America!

I could be wrong, but my guess is that the lumberjack show will be modeled after the one they partner with on the Disney Cruise in Alaska:

It'll probably be a scaled-down version of those kinds of shows, which are very popular on all Alaskan cruises. As a ticketed event that you would pay for, I think they are overpriced. As street entertainment in Epcot, it sounds like a good idea.

Somebody said they didn't see this as Canadian culture. Having grown up just across the border from Canada, I can tell you that it is at least stereotypical Canadian culture. If you wanted to dress as a "Canadian" in the suburbs of Detroit, the lumberjack look worked.

So, what could they put in the American Adventure that's stereotypical of American culture? ECV races? A gun show?

Because nothing says Canada more than the Great Alaskan Lumberjack show.

You are probably correct. Personally the lumberjack thing is a little tired but honestly - Disney doesn't want to educate on the nations as they are today they want easily recognized and marketable stereotypes.

I am so sad to see Off Kilter leave but from the day they started (and trust me I was there) people wondered why they weren't in the UK pavilion if they were Scottish. The culture is still alive and well in Nova Scotia (says this fiddle playing, highland dancer) but it confused people who actually put an iota of thought into it. For anyone that did ask it was a pleasure to explain where the Scottish/Canadian heritage comes from and a little education on your vacation can't be that bad.

I am crushed for the band members and their families. I just can't imagine the shock for them. They had no warning and were advised two nights ago - around the same time it was posted on various websites. It's going to be tough to embrace this change because of my personal feelings. This better be the most spectacular friggin lumberjack show ever if they expect to win over the Off Kilter fan club.

Actually, outside the US (Europe, China, Japan) a stereotypical American show would feature cowboys, country music, and possibly some gunplay (although that depends what country you're in), and you'd be served hamburgers and fried chicken.

I've seen that show/contest/whatever on ESPN sometimes. Boring as hell. Which is probably why I didn't watch it for long.

Wow. Surprised that the band had so little warning. Obviously, it's always possible for a contract not to be picked up, but you do expect more than 30 days notice after such a long run.

And, much as I like the idea of a different kind of show (not music or comedy), there is no way such a show wins the Off Kilter crowd. Perhaps the Celtic folk group will have a better chance. Or maybe, just maybe, Off-Kilter will play from time to time at an outdoor venue in Disney Springs.

Ever travel in Alaska? It's a lot like Alberta and BC (other than Vancouver and Victoria) and the Yukon Territory. Indeed, virtually indistinguishable except for the time zone, the money, and the Mounties.

With you on all regards. Also noting, the bagpipes and kilts are quite predominate in Nova Scotia. (recalling my youth when a bag-pipe-playing kilt-wearing boy insisted on showing me he had on shorts under the kilt, just so I wouldn't think of him as odd. LOL)

I don't believe anyone in Off Kilter is from Scotland. In fact the lead musician was from Florida per allears. Shocked me that no one in the band is from Canada. All this doesn't change that they have been popular and will be missed.

I have a question. What happens now to these performers? Are they fired? I think that's the part the annoys me. It saddens me to see acts go because they become a tradition. Is like saying the Dapper Dans are going to get cut. I understand they want to keep things fresh but they can still do that without letting people go. So anyone know are these people now jobless?

I agree that new acts are required to keep things fresh but those acts should have been made in addition to what was already there; unless of course one of these acts was truly not liked. Yes, I'm a fan, not groupie, of Off Kilter but honestly, I'm a fan of each one of these offerings. These are all very dedicated people and will be dearly missed. Back during my 75% utilized business travel days which was up until this past year, I did get a lot of use out of my AP by stopping by any time I was in central FL. I'd grab a Moosehead or Blue and watch a set or two. I'm glad I got to spend the time when I did.

The main reason for my post though (especially considering I hardly post!) is that it frustrates the crap out of me that I wrote up a passionate but fair comment for the Disney Parks Blog and yet it was tossed in the trash after laying there under moderation for a few hours. While this didn't surprise me all that much even though I thought I worded things kindly enough to get it posted, it is still very telling when they have a whole 64 comments (Only the VERY positive ones of course!) and meanwhile this thread is over 30,000 views and over 500 comments. Hmmmm. The only satisfaction I'm getting out of this is knowing how busy their moderators must be :). Now who wants to place bets on an exclusive upcharge special event send off party on September 27th????
