Epcot book

I found a book at my library called "Walt Disney's Epcot: Creating the New World of Tomorrow" It is an oversized book and was put out back when Epcot first opened (possibly sold in the parks?) Anyway, it is filled with all sorts of concept art, pictures of models and rough sketches of all things through the park. It is the most comprehensive book on Epcot I have seen(even if it is outdated). The most interesting is the fact that they devoted a whole section to Africa-apparently it was close to being built in the World Showcase and had some neat exhibits/rides/shows either finished or in the works. One being narrated by Alex Haley (author of Roots). But I guess the funding or the project just fell through (possibly looking forward to AK?) If anyone wants to read it I can type up the text-it is very descriptive and long.

I am sorry if this was covered or talked about before-I did a search and I came up empty handed. I thought it would be interetsing to share since all I have ever seen about Africa before this was a brief mention that it was "coming soon".

This is going to sound really weird, but I'm going to give it a shot. I constantly get out the book you are talking about at my library, and it is filed with the "oversized" books as well. Seeing as you are from NJ, I have a strange question to ask you. Did you by any chance get this book at the Lacey Branch of the Ocean County Library? That's where I always get it and I have never seen it any where else.

And in reply to what you wrote. I have read that fact elsewhere, besides that book. I think they had many other countries (or in this case, a continent) in mind, but if the government of that country does not want to support a pavillion in Epcot representing their country then they cannot add it to World Showcase. I think that that is very interesting, and like I said many countries had to be scrapped for that very reason.

I have a couple of different books on EPCOT that I enjoy reading every now and then. However, I've never heard of this one. I wonder if I would be able to find a copy somewhere in Michigan. Is there anything on the book that I could use to look it up, Library of Congress # or anything like that? Thanks in advance - Craig.

Craig... if ya got the cash...try eBay... I got mine mint for like $40 last year.... best $40 I have ever spent... This has to be my fav book of all time. (some were going for $60-80... I just lucked out)

The Book was published by "Harry N. Abrams, Inc. Publishers, New York" in 1982. :)

There are 2 different versions I think... a smaller version 120pages I think.... and a 240page more detailed version... a little harder to find ... but well worth the hunt. I have the 240 page version.

I've actually got both versions.

The 128-page version (smaller, no dustjacket) is ISBN # 0-8109-0821-2

The 240-page version (larger, dustjacket) is ISBN # 0-8109-0819-0

ISBN numbers! I was just going to ask for them. Take them and the name and author of the book and look it up on Amazon.com.

Also bring them to your local library to see if they are still in circulation , can also hit ebay.

I worked in a book store that did a lot of special ordering, always try to give the ISBN number when talking about a book (inside the book with copyright, etc. and on the dust jacket usually above the bar code) its the best way to identify a book. Names may be the same or similar, but an ISBN (International Standard Book Number) is only used once.

I'm going to have to look into this book. Thanks.

Another great place to look for old books like that is half.com. I got this book there for eight bucks. The good thing about half.com is that you don't have to bid on things, if u see it and like it, then just purchase it. Also, put walt disney world in the search and you will find tons of great old books similar to this one.

No, sorry-I took mine from Woodbridge Library!

After I return it I am going to have to make a search for it-it is a really great book!

I own a mint copy of this book, one that I believe was purchased in WDW itself around the time of Epcot's opening. :D

I bought the 240 page book back in 1982 at Walden's book for $35.00 when it first came out. I love the description of The Living Sea's pavillion. Wish they would have built it that way.

I took this book out of the library recently. It's got to be the best book ever. We have one huge used book store in town; I'll have t ask them there if they have it in their warehouse. I got the bigger version of the book from the library. :)

I searched for an hour and couldn't find any copies for sale.

You searched for an hour and didn't find it? I searched for about 2 minutes and found 17 (make that 16, I ordered one) used copies in various conditions at various prices at amazon, and 2 for sale on ebay. This was at 5:00PM Sunday, August 24, so after that, the totals may change.

If you would like some help doing web searches, let me know and I'll try to help out.
