The funny thing is, you have to figure, since he took the time to record the incident and post it, he figured he was in the right.
Nah, I think he knows better... he realized it was after hours and he was just playing a bunch of emotional cards ("where's the magic," "one last ride before we leave," "son really wants it") trying to get the CM to bend the rules for him.

Fortunately, she trumps all his cards with THE RULES. And although she could have left her desire to go home out of it, props to her for sticking to her guns politely and calmly.

For anyone who finds themselves in this situation and may want or request a cast member to bend the rules, remember to do the following:
  • Be Sincere
Let the cast member know the situation and how it has personally impacted you and put them in your shoes.
  • Ask Politely and Quietly
Ask quietly and politely, never make a scene. Remember they are bending the rules for you and they obviously can't bend them for everyone. If you make a scene your chances usually go to zero very quickly.
  • Accept the Response
It never hurts to ask, but always accept the response. Sometimes you will be surprised, but often you will get the answer you expect, which is "No".
  • Never Record or Escalate
Never record or escalate the situation! This is a guarantee that they will not bend the rules for you no matter how right you are. Would they really want to be caught bending the rules on video? If you think a cast member is acting unfairly, then go to guest relations and complain to management.
You be surprised how far this will go, after all the cast members really want to see if you have a great time! Just understand that sometimes they are unable to comply with a request, and that is okay to!

Back on topic, this video was disappointing from all angles. The CM simply needed to state the rules are the lines close at 8 PM, and the father should of accepted this. Many times we were able to get extra rides because they kept the lines open a few minutes past closing, and many times we ran around to find the ropes closed. Never did I think to blame or yell at the cast members. Only to be grateful for the ones that stayed late so we could enjoy an extra ride or two.

It would be interesting to know how he feels about it now. I would imagine the responses on Facebook or wherever are probably
pretty similar to the comments I have seen here.
I was curious if someone was really that stupid to have a Facebook page and leave it totally unsecure for random people to look at your private info, and this guy totally is. And yes...he is getting similar comments to here (actually, a lot were way worse--props to some of those people for being so creative in their derogatory comments)!! And he totally feels he did nothing wrong--although, he would respond with the same cut-n-paste response, so not real original. People ripped for his spelling and grammar. He ended up replacing the video with a still pic of a carousel with his kid pasted on to the pic. I still can't believe the total lack of security on his page, smh :banghead:

Whoever coined the term "the customer is always right" deserves a good punch. It just coddled and built an entire business based on customer abuse.
I've heard that it was originally meant to mean "don't argue with a customer's tastes". I.e. if that homeowner wants their living room painted in mustard yellow and acid purple you shut up and discuss paint types and prices and when.

The guy was being a jerk. It's closed? You say okay and walk off, comforting little Timmy if you have to.

I feel like the guy was trying to fish for likes and positive comments. Not unusual from chaincomplainer like katiebug.

I also couldn't help but look at his Facebook page. Dude is absolute trash. There's a video of him on the Speedway with his mask off. Now he's doing everything possible trying to get famous over this. After this incident took place he took his kid to the Marketplace Carousel the next day and which horse did the kid pick? Oh....wait....he chose the spinning teacup instead...

When I was trained by Disney they said “the customer is not always right. But we allow them to be wrong with dignity”

I’d still just let him into the cue. Not worth a fuss over. It’s like people cutting in line at Disney world, sure it’s unfair but starting a fight with them isn’t going to help anything, easier to just let them go and wait all of 30 more seconds.

I'm not sure how else to put this, but you're not getting it. If you were a Disney attractions CM and your leadership witnessed you doing this, they would be mad at you.

Please do not insult my level of comprehension.

I’ve gotten in lines after the 1-3 minute mark on both coasts. In my experience “leadership” has erred on the guest experience side and not the “go home parks closed now” side.

In the experience of every person who has ever worked a Disney attraction, getting in after the entrance to the attraction is closed is an exception, not a rule. Certainly not if you start filming and being aggressive and demanding. The only leaders that would let this guy ride are the ones every CM hates because they regularly throw their own cast under the bus.

This goes for any service industry, I have gotten far more by politely asking and accepting whatever answer they give than loudly complaining and making a big scene about it. If you are loud an obnoxious the best you will get is the bare minimum to shut you up and get you out of there. However your more likely to just get to meet the nice securtity personel. If your polite, patient, and understanding then many times the people will go out of thier way to help you with what ever problem you have.

This video has been making the rounds on Facebook:

Summary: He approaches the entrance to the carousel at 8:01. Park closed at 8:00. The Cast Member says its closed. The man starts filming her, trying to intimidate her into letting him in. He argues that there are people in line that haven't ridden yet. She, doing exactly what she is supposed to do per the job, states that they have to cut the line at some point, and if she lets him in, she has to let everyone else in to be fair. He continues to berate her but walks away when they start contacting someone else to assist, possibly security.

99% of the comments are telling him he is 100% wrong, but he is instead going on this weird crusade against Cast Members. Oh, he also is an anti-masker who continually films himself ignoring the rules, taking his and his kids' masks off. I get it, "don't give stupid people attention", but also this man deserves to lose his job over this.

Do not be this guest. Do not act entitled and bully frontline employees for doing their job. Do not be trash.

Also, if you are a Cast Member, I would refrain from commenting on his stuff.

Hopefully the CM has a better outcome than the one I had when I was in college. I experienced pretty much the same situation at a bank where I worked. Our boss told us we had to turn on the red closed light for the drive thru precisely at 6:00pm or we would be fired. And then some idiot like this guy drives up and starts banging on the glass demanding we cash his check after we closed we didn't serve him we just let him rant while we closed the curtains and turned off the speaker. He called the head of the bank and the next day the other teller and I were fired for not providing good customer service even though our boss had told us we had to close precisely at 6 or we would be fired.... I hope Disney Management doesn't pull the same crap with this CM.

Cancel culture? the thing that the MAN tried to do against the CM? :p
IronIc
But he doesn't? The man is crying over Disney, not over an employee. Obnoxious, certainly. He should just go home and let these CM's do their job. But throughout the video he remains impersonal. Trying to get them fired seems neither his objective nor expectation. Rather he wants to shame Disney, whine a bit. (For not turning 5 year olds into little entitled brats like him, but ok)

I love trainwrecks so I couldn't resist visiting his FB. Entitled, self-centered, insufferable. Not a friend of mine, shall we say. But I judge the video, being aware there's no context to boot; the act, not the person.

I'm old fashioned. I go by the wisdom not to try to destroy somebody's life over a 30 second video clip without context or proper full understanding. And to never join an online mob.

You catch more flies with honey than vinegar...

And if it doesn't happen, say thank you and go on your way. Courtesy is dying in this country.
Visiting America used to be like taking a warm bath. Friendly people, polite, most people would bid you a nice day and actually hoped you had one.

Something went terribly wrong in the past thirty years. So much rudeness, aggression, nastiness. The sheer amount of obscenities, abuse, threats I've attracted even when literally just standing still peacefully minding my own business in family theme parks!

Whatever has happened!?
