Encanto Projection coming to "it's a small world" façade April 11th

I've been struggling to understand this new market as well (and the rest of the new post-pan world around it). But I wonder how many families there were that subscribed to Disney+ to watch Encanto at home for eight bucks instead of sixty that now will be paying that eight bucks over and over every month for years ahead. How many families will the next major title released on on Disney+ bring in?
The thing to remember is in this model its not a 1-to-1 revenue model. The single dollar spent by a sub doesn't go to pay for just Encanto, it pays for all the content.

In this type of model content is written down over time, just like in a tech company or really most businesses but a tech company is a better analogy.

What you are calling "the Netflix business model" is actually older than Netflix, its how tech companies have been doing business for over a hundred years. So its a model that works.

Oh, I had no idea! When I bought that sporty and optioned up 1982 Cutlass Supreme Coupe forty years ago, here I was thinking I was just paying General Motors to build me a car and make a decent profit off of it. When in fact, they were losing tons of money on it just to build future goodwill? And then shut down the Oldsmobile division in 2000 and have a full corporate bankruptcy in 2009? How smart they were!

And just an FYI, Netflix has been profitable for many years now, so its not going to collapse.

Thank God. I just need to see The Crown through to it's final episode. Then I'm cancelling Netflix.

I'm sure they have a business plan for that though. ;)

You’re being sarcastic but your sport coupe is a good example. The price you paid wasn’t a 1-to-1 deal either. Your price pays for not only the manufacturing cost but also past and future R&D for all cars GM produced not just that single model, which is in the Billions. There is really not much difference here.

....Why are people so obsessed with making it known that they have no interest in Encanto or will not watch it.... like do you want a cookie? I am... not sure I understand this proclamation.....

Has Disney even specified why they are doing random projections on it's a small world???
This puzzles me, too. I take it as an outright rejection of whatever the movie represents for them. While I have guesses on what that is, it's hard to say

I assume it’s because they want to have more Encanto offerings in the park and they are running out of things to project on.

To your first point, I don’t know either, it’s dumb.

Because its so in vogue to state on the internet that you have no interest or hate something that is popular. Its what all the cool kids are doing, so you must do it too, even though secretly most of them probably watched it and enjoyed it.

Has Disney even specified why they are doing random projections on it's a small world???

Because Disney has stated its their next franchise, so like all their franchises they want to get it into the Parks as quick as possible. Its the same reason why they also added a Mirabel M&G.

Indeed, it's a lot of the same tired arguments again and again and again.

There's been almost no discussion about the actual show this thread is ostensibly about, perhaps because people don't actually find the idea of the show that offensive but still feel like they need to be mad about something?

And a lot of "it's popular but I DON'T LIKE IT so it must be BAD and proof that most people are STUPID..." that has never gone out of style.

I think Encanto is great, and the soundtrack has grown on me the more I listen to it, much like Hamilton.

This seems like an odd way to shoehorn it into the parks, but I'll hold onto hope they're working on bigger and better things. Namely, Epcot should get a Colombia pavilion.

For starters, it would be the first IP shoehorning that makes complete sense (Coco would as well) and, if executed well, it would be a clear home run in the parks for Chapek.

Don't worry. Right now there is a TDA Communications Manager working from home tirelessly to come up with an elaborate yet sloppy backstory for this that involves using the Spanish word Candelaria to explain why the projections show up on the facade every night.

This 29 year old Communications Manager is busy trying to shove the following words and phrases into the backstory, in no particular order but as prominently and awkwardly as possible:
  • Multi-Cultural
  • Lin Manuel Miranda
  • Mid Century Modern
  • Familia
  • Bruno
  • Inclusive
  • Mary Blair
  • Immersive
  • Lightning Lane
It's not quite Noon yet, and she's just about to switch from coffee to Merlot in her big mug for her afternoon Zoom meetings. These things take time!

That doesn't mean it's not mediocre. It seems like today we strive for mediocrity. It's colorful but I found the songs annoying and how the ordinary one is shunned and made a slave to the other superheros. What is with the character that looks like she was doping on testosterone and steroids?

Turning Red was pretty mediocre too compared to other Pixar movies.

I'm sorry... What?

This entire post indicates that you've not even seen Encanto. Luisa's appearance isn't remotely confusing for anybody who has seen the movie. Additionally, there are zero superheroes and zero slaves. With regards to "the ordinary one," I assume you're referring to Mirabel, but I'm legitimately not sure where you're getting that she's a slave in any way? She's also not shunned at all.

No
Disney parks are just all about movie IP now, you'd think your park entrance ticket would be subsidized by the amount of advertisement they jam into your face.

There's gotta be a breaking point somewhere. This move gives me total "high school musical preview in tomorrowland theater" vibes.

I mean… this is what Disneyland has always done?

They decided to name the castle to tie into the new movie Sleeping Beauty which was coming out in 1959.

A limited time projection offering for their current biggest IP isn’t that crazy. Don’t we recall all the parades they used to do for their new films?

Actually I did see it and didn't like it at all. It was colorful. I'll give it that. The songs got kind of annoying with all the language changes. Everybody had a super power except Mirabel. They might not have made her a slave but they sure did look down on her especially the grandmother that was afraid the magic would stop for very selfish reasons. It should make a nice Mystic Manor type ride though. I'm not sure where they would put it unless Epcot got a Columbia pavilion.

I'd rather see a Winchester Mystery House type ride be put in DCA to at least pretend the California theme still mattered.
