Emotional Whirlwind Grand Opening & Ride Reviews - Let's Get Excited!

Same for me as well. Even if you don't love Pixar Pier, its still 100 times better than the original pier. I think people have forgotten how bland and boring so much of the original was. Pixar Pier at least adds life and color to the area. I really enjoy walking though it now vs the original pier where I would ride Calif. Screamin and get out of there as fast as possible. Now the place has charm and character.

The reality is there is just not much you can do with it in its current form. 70% of its real estate is the roller coaster. They squeezed in TSM which is obviously a great addition but they can't add anything else at this point beyond smaller carnival stuff. The pier should've never been built in the first place IMO but its there now and it is what it is what it is.

Agreed. Now that they have plussed the pier a bit, I suspect that they will move on to Paradise Garden soon.

That will be interesting!

Emotional Whirl Wind is literally a county fair ride with a portable trailer version available from Zamperla.

I guess we go to different county fairs then. Emotional Whirlwind is like pretty much like ALL spinners are done DL from Dumbo to the rocket rides. How different is it from those? These are cheap rides, we all agree, but they still go beyond what you find in other places.

Go beyond what? Zamperla sells a trailer mounted Samba Balloon. That is a fact. Doesn’t matter if they’re not at the fairs you attend.

I’m pretty against spinners in Disney parks but I have to admit this looks pretty great for what it is.
The problem is this attraction doesn’t exist in a bubble. Its around the corner from 2 other spinning rides but I can’t let that deter my opinion of this. I think this is actually a great addition to the pier and my wife and daughter will LOVE this!
I just wish they would rip out the western side of Parafise Pier and expand into the Paradise Pier Hotel lot with something bold.

The west side of Pixardise Pier might be my favourite section of it. Sure, the Jumping Jellyfish is ugly and unappealing. Sure, Goofy's Sky School is one of the ugliest things in an American Disney park. Sure, the Golden Zephyr is closed half the time and something you'd have to pay me to get on. Sure, you'd also have to pay me to get on Mickey's Silly Symphony Swings. Please pay me. Where was I going with this?

Oh yeah, I like sitting outdoors near the Garden Grill and having okay steak skewers to mix things up.

This is still a custom themed, unique, and finely finished attraction. So yes, it is different. It’s a Disney level of spinner, which are welcome in the parks as far as I’m concerned.
That you prefer the custom decorations of Emotional Whirlwind over the custom decorations on the Maliboomer doesn’t change the fact that the Samba Balloon is available in a trailer version.

Spinners are fine, I guess. But I question the need to have three of them within touching distance of each other.

That stretch of the park is starting to look like an expensively themed county fair.

It's cute, charming at night and is a much-needed kiddie ride (for DCA.)

Could be worse, they could re-theme Midway Mania and slap an iconic character that has remained popular for generations instead of giving him a new and unique experience.

Yes
I just watched a 20 minute video with Dusty proposing that Disney retheme all of the rest of the attractions/restaurants/gift shops in the Paradise Gardens area to Pixar.

20 minutes? You deserve a medal for sitting through that guy.

I will say it looks pretty at night, based on the photos.

So does the Incredicoaster and most of Pixar Smear. Great to look at but nothing worth actually going on.

Agreed! It looks and feels super charming at night! To me, it brings the pier back to the feel of the Santa Monica pier / Santa Cruz pier that inspired this section of the park originally. The lights, color and music just add to the overall impact.

So far, I've heard an audio track for Joy, Sadness, and Anger. So, I'm guessing the ride has 5 audio tracks.

This is fantastic for re-ridability! Just keep getting back on until you experience the ride with all the audio tracks. It's exactly like Mission Breakout!!

I hope there's a bonus Bing Bong track. Two minutes of Bing Bong! Bing Bong! Bing Bong!...

Did your wife and daughter love Flik’s?

I would say they liked it. But with this type of ride, location and theming is so important. Having this attraction in the pier gives a totally different vibe that in a Bugs Land. There is so much more going on both in terms of the view and immediately around the ride itself. Plus my daughter LOVES Inside Out .
But no one on here should EVER, and I’m sure wouldn’t, take ride advice from me and my family.
Many of the attractions that are constantly ridiculed on here, my family loves.
Whether it’s Incredicoaster or California Screamin, the coaster is one of our favorite rides in the entire resort. My son and I love Guardians and definitely prefer it over ToT, which we loved as well. Unfortunately we had been on the WDW version of ToT first and the DCA version definitely felt like it had something missing. It doesn’t feel that way now. We love Monsters Inc., but no doubt there is no where to take the rest of the Backlot with that ride sitting smack in the middle. I was on board with the Monsters takeover of the Backlot before that got cancelled but I know that was blasphemy as well. I just really wanted that planned Monsters coaster!!!
So anyway, I guess I have weird taste for a hardcore Disney park fan.
Oh well?!

Eh, I’m sarcastic a lot of times and hard on Disney most times because I don’t agree with a lot of their decisions, but when it’s me and my family at the parks we have a lot of fun. I can see us waiting 5 or 10 minutes to ride EW. We may even smile while riding. Sarcastically, of course 😏

When I ride Disney-Pixar Inside Out Emotional Whirlwind later this summer, preferably at night, I will also smile sarcastically and think of you and your fun family!

It's a cute little C Ticket, and it seems to be a nice aesthetic improvement there on the old Maliboomer pad than it was tucked into a corner of overgrown bamboo in A Bug's Land.

I just watched President Trump on live color TV step across the curb of the DMZ and into North Korea, only a day after we saw the grand opening of Emotional Whirlwind. Wow.

Who knew this weekend would be so historic for both world peace and Pixar Pier?!? o_O

Let's remind ourselves what originally sat in this area:

Ugh. About as charming as you would find in your local county fair. I will never know how that original park got approved and actually built.

Anyone else find it funny that to celebrate Pixar for Summer 2018 they got rid of the only Pixar Land in the park?

I’ve always felt that Pixar Pier was a consolation prize for Lassetter losing Bug’s Land so he wouldn’t flip out on the execs for taking away something from his “precious brand”.

It was also a concession that the Disneyland resort is too small for all of the multiple Pixar brands to get their own land. They can’t all be Toy Story Land and Carsland! But they wanted to still leverage those IP’s.
