Elyse's First Solo trip!

Characters: Me (22)
Date: April 3 - April 6 2008
Location: SSR—Congress Park

I woke up at 5:00 AM on Thursday (the 3rd), the earliest I have had to get up in a long, long time. I had to be in Disney by 10AM! All day Thursday was dedicated to figuring out what I am going to be doing with my life for the next year or 2 (interviewing, etc.).

My room at SSR was awesome. I had requested Springs because it was my first time solo in Disney and I wanted a room near the lobby, but I had a view of DTD and of a quiet pool which I didn’t mind too much.

After a long day, I was too tired to try and get to a park, so I took the boat over to Fulton’s. I had never eaten there before, and was pleasantly surprise. I had the Crab and Lobster Bisque :slurp: and the Scallops appetizer. They didn’t have a scallop entrée and I’m a scallop lover, so I figure the soup and appetizer would be enough for me…. Surprisingly it was more than enough for me! This was the first meal at a sit-down restaurant that I have ever had! I have to tell you, it wasn’t too bad!! If anything, it was worse for some of the people sitting around me! I kept getting bothered with the ‘pity’ look. Listen up to you pity-onlookers… most people that eat alone CHOOSE to eat alone !

Friday I spent the first part of the day at the Studios. It was crowded, so I got a fast-pass for ToT and decided to lollygag around. On a side note, my favorite thing to do in Disney is people watch…. that is what I did most of the trip!

Anyway, I checked out Sci-fi to see if they had anything available for a party of 1, and I was seated in under 3-4 minutes—as a hitchhiker! I had a wonderful waiter who spent a lot of time chit-chattin’ with me…even though I felt bad for the family in front of me... they probably didn’t want to hear about me! Anyway, good burger and vanilla coke!
Finally it was time to head over to ToT….got through within 15 minutes….nice. I got some photopass pictures of me in front of ToT which I still haven’t decided on whether I am going to order or not.

After doing a little strolling through the shops I started heading to the exit, and stopped to watch Rosie and the director (can’t remember his name). They were hilarious!!

After relaxing at the room, I headed to Epcot. I spent a lot of my time strolling and taking pictures.

There was EMH until midnight, but it seemed like all of the shops and counter service places were shutting down around 10:30! So I hopped on TT and M:S (waited less than 3 minutes for both) and then rode SSE. This is my second time riding the refurb and the second time it hasn’t recognized my face on the screen!! ARGG!

Saturday I went to MK. WHOOPS…..man was it crowded. I knew there was a reason why I don’t usually go this time of year! :brick: I watch Dream Along With Mickey and headed to Tomorrowland where I felt like I was like one of those silver balls in a pinball machine… WHILE my heals were getting hit by strollers!! Hey, I’m not complaining, just not used to it. So I did COP. After that, checked out the good ole' stand-by TTA.... Even TTA had a line!!! I took the side path to ToonTown. By this time I was hungry and looking for short lines for food. My search was a failure: passed through ToonTown, Fantasyland, Liberty Square, Frontierland, Adventureland, and to no avail…it seemed like I would have to wait FOREVER to finally get food. At this point I was so famished that I just headed back to the hotel and ordered food there.

I went to Epcot again this night, with plans to head over to ESPN Club for the Final Four match-ups. It was pouring on-and-off this day, but luckily I had an umbrella with me and decided to do a lot of walking in the rain because no one else was doing it!

The ESPN Club was pretty darn crowded. While I was sitting at the bar I met some people that were waiting for a table. They invited me to sit with them to watch the game in the main part of the restaurant. This was my first time in the ESPN Club and it was pretty cool! We then headed over to JellyRolls…

Great trip report! I'm trying to build up the courage to make a solo trip. You seem to be about my age, so seeing that you were able to accomplish this feat gives me a lot more confidence.

I was a little nervous, but more excited than nervous. There were a lot of 'solo' firsts on this trip for me! I had to get used to telling waiters/CMs/ acquaintances that yes, I am on a trip by myself! "How many in your party?" "one!!" "Elyse, party of 1, your table is now available."

Of course, I didn't tell just any random person....I am a 22 year-old female.....

Reading a how many people go on Solo trips on the boards is really what gave me the confidence to do it! So, do some searching of some past discussions!
And if you have any questions.... feel free to PM me!

I enjoyed my solo trip. Got to make my own rules, do as little or as much as I wanted.

I am a people watcher too and solo travel makes it easy!

I really liked your TR. i took the last couple seconds just thinking about a solo trip because I usually take WDW trips with 10+ people... sounds like something i might consider in the future... i loved the picture of DTD from your hotel room . We stayed in 'the springs' and loved its location .. but i wish i had a view as amazing as that!!!

Not old, just vintage.

Nice trip report! On my last trip I got to spend a few days solo too. It is strange at first being a "party of one" but I got over it pretty quickly. Looks like you had a great time, and YAY! for moving to FL! :sohappy:

Yay :sohappy:

Nice photos too. I can't believe the "pity looks" you got dining solo. I had absolutely none ... I think people were more entertained/enthralled/disbelieving of the temper tantrums going on and the obnoxious parents that were letting them happen (or in some cases, aggravating the situation).

Don't let that stop from going again solo; maybe it was just bad luck where you dined

Rest assured, those weren't "pity" looks, they were JEALOUS looks! :ROFLOL:Traveling solo at WDW is great. Glad you had such a great time!

Glad to hear you had fun on your solo trip, even though some of the parks were crowded. Very nice TR. I guess the cool thing about becoming an Orlando resident is that you can frequent The World as often as you'd like!

Good luck with your move!
