Election Day Crowds

Since this is such an unusual election year, how do you think Election Day in November will affect park crowds? Will more kids be off from school, so more day trippers will show up, or will people be staying close to their home town so they can vote in person and watch the results later in the day?

Hmmm...Election Day is not a holiday, and legally employers only have to give employees a few hours to go and vote, so I doubt many people will be taking the day off. So park attendance shouldn't be affected by the election.

I do not know what the policy is in Jersey, but here and Georgia we do not have anytime off for the election.

Actually you do. If you are scheduled to be at work when the polls are open, your employer is legally obligated to give you time off to vote (up to two hours). However, if the polls are open two hours before you start work or two hours after you leave work, they aren't obligated to give you the time off. :animwink:

I knew that, I think everyone knows that. I mean that it won't be enough time to affect the crowd level. If it was a day, yes I can see it. However, the way the policy is, the parks will not be affected.

I would personally hope that people are using the time to vote and not spend time doing anything frivolous. I find it amusing that the most vocal critics of politics are people who don't vote. I pushed my return trip to Disney back a week because of the election.

I totally agree! They have so many options now to get around having to even vote on election day that people have absolutely no excuse not voting.

Take me for instance, I am planning on doing the early voting because I have work followed by a late class on the actual election day.

I know that our local schools are closed, but its a long drive down from the Atlanta area. I can see the next weekend being bigger with the the Veterans Day Weekend. A big thanks to all who server and have served!

Schools in FL are not closed for election day. Many polling places are in churches, libraries, etc, in addition to schools, and there seem to be many more of them than I remember in RI. I am within a few blocks of at least half a dozen polling places! So because each polling place only has a limited number of registered voters, they aren't as crowded, as everyone usually can fit into one room without disrupting classes. When the numbers pick up in the evening, school is over for the day.

I voted on Tuesday, (and waited in line for 40 minutes!) so it won't be an issue. I just wish there was some sort of v-chip that I could install in my TV to block any further political ads.

Schools in Indiana are not closed for Election Day. Schools in Kentucky are, however. I'm voting today. DH is a state employee and he is off for election day, but most of us are not. Thank you, Veterans.!!

I work for the government and we have off. I'm in NJ and we will be there for the week. My wife and I got an absentee ballads. We will get the results in The World!

Oh what a miraculous device that would be. I would be happy if I never saw another political ad...ever.

Especially living in Florida! Between the presidential race and local races, the tv stations have probably made enough money to last the next 4 years until it begins again!

Many schools in NJ close on election day because they do double duty as polling places, and you can't have a bunch of strangers walking around the school while the kids are there. Also, Thursday and Friday of the same week are the NJ Teachers Convention, so all public schools are closed. We have been to WDW before on this week, and have had the odd experience of running into dozens of people we know in the parks, even though we are hundreds of miles from home! My town makes a big effort to make sure everyone has absentee ballots, since so many travel during the election week! I'm hoping more people will choose not to travel this year, and instead stay home and watch the media guess the results on the news all day!

It's just a guess, but I'd be surprised if a significant number of people planned their vacation around the election. It varies by state, but a lot of places have early and no-excuse absentee voting, so you don't need to be home on that day to vote.

And as for tracking the results...I'd think most people would be content to just turn on the TV after they get back to the room and see what's going on, if they had the chance to be in WDW that day.

Maybe I'm underestimating the civic interest in this country, but my guess is crowds will be about the same as they would have been without the election.
