Just wondering if there is anyone else out there who loves this ride as much as I do. This is the one thing I could not possibly live without. The smell of the Disney Water (all the water rides have that certain smell, wish I knew what it was!!!), AND the smell of the delicious Mexican food are amazing!! The temple, the sky, the plants, the skeletons, the fireworks.....I could never get tired of it!!!! I hope they never change it!!!! I know many people don't like it, but can we please keep this thread positive about it? Thanks!!

We ride it every trip. I like the song "Hola mis amigos..." haven't quite deciphered the rest ha! I agree about the smells. The smell of Disney in general to me is very comforting. Guess I'm not a weirdo after all! lol

El Rio del Tiempo is more of a guilty pleasure than a fave ride. I love the fact that it is almost never crowded -- it's sort of a "hidden" ride in World Showcase.

And the song is almost as infectious as "it's a small world"!

i ride it every time i'm there. and i sing that song the rest of the day wondering, "why do i ride that ride?"

the cliff divers....the early 80's haircuts. it's all fantastic.

While not my favorite, I do most certainlly like this ride and make sure I ride it everytime I visit Epcot. There's just something very comforting about the ride, an intangible thing I can't really explain. You're right: the smells contribute to the experience for me and just make this an enjoyable experience every time, no matter how simplistic the ride is. Muy Bien!:animwink:

Its funny you mention this because when we were riding in it on Saturday, I took a whiff as we entered one of the last rooms and told my hubby it smelled like mold in there!

El Rio is like a Dole Whip. It is a very good unexpected surprise. However, if hyped, it may disappoint.

I like both, but am careful not to rave about them lest someone feel they fail to live up to the raised expectations.

el Rio is a good example of a ride that could use just alittle touch up like updating the videos just a little bit so they don't look like 1980. But otherwise its a hiddne treasure of EPCOT one of my favs. Now we need a German boat ride they could use beer instead of water, DuffWorld galore., lol!!!!!!!!:p :slurp: :hurl:

Are you kidding, I Love This Ride! I do it at least once a day when at the world. My girlfriend has mixed emotions but I drag her anyway. I love the begining with the temple and all. Its also our favorite restaurant, we always go and ask for a table near the water. Its like eating outside in Mexico where else. I cant explain why, I guese the atmosphere the smells the sounds, its the same reason I love spaceship earth. The narations, the history, I just love it and hope nothing happens to it.

P.S. Spaceship earth could use new seats and maybe something at the end, otherwise leave it and the rio alone.

A great ride to bring first time visitors on and then have a fine meal. The relaxation it brings contributes to the atmosphere provided by the restaurant and rumbling volcano. The margaritas are great!!

It's a great hidden treasure as you all have said. Although the last time I rode it was back in August 1993 (when Princess Di and her sons went on holiday to WDW - the last time I was in Orlando [shame on me!]) I have to recall the first time I ever saw the Mexican pavillion back in early spring 1982.

As everyone has said EPCOT used to be this educational and learning park, and in some respects it still is today. Visiting all the countries opened my eyes and interests in seeing the world.

The Mexican pavillion in itself was very cool and all I thought, at the time was "museum displays" they had at the entrance of Myan ruin. I knew I saw it before as I was still in elementary school. It really looks like El Castillo at Chichen Itza. But I was way wrong as there was more to it. On came the smells and the sounds and sights of the dusk-like/evening courtyard and the restaurant right there by the canal. It was just like being in an updated version of Pirates. It had the same feel.

The ride in itself was very interesting and yes, unique in its own right. I hope they have not changed the ride too much or when it comes time for a refurb, have Disney talk to the Mexican delegation to not change too much of the ride. It's awesome as it is.

You know, to this day I have eaten at many a Mexican restaurant and many restaurants all around WDW, but I have never dined at the restaurant in the Mexican pavllion. Next time I am at WDW it's on my to do list.

It isn't my favorite ride but I always have to ride. No trip is complete without it! I love that there is never any line, it makes me want to go back to the real Mexico. Plus the song is so catchy and happy. Too bad more of the countries don't have rides like that.

IASW meets If You Had Wings.... great :D

Just my thoughts. Glad someone else here is old enough to remember the joys of "If You Had Wings". I was just watching a new DVD I got on "If You Had Wings" and its funny it mentions El Rio Del Tiempo.

I remember going through the flying room with the geese flying around you. It would feel so cold in that room.
