El Rio Del Tiempo - Anyone else's favorite ride?

Speaking of the water and smells at Disney, the best smell IMO hits you when you enter the Great Ceremonial House at the Poly. It really is unforgettable... the scent of the flowers, the waterfall and something else that can only be described as Disney magic overwhelms you. Second best is the AKL lobby.

"An Adventurers life is best!"

it's amazing how closely tied our sense of smell is to our memory.

the smell at the contemporary always brings me back to being a little kid.

Drunk swingers in a hot tub

That was what I had wanted to put in my post but wasn't sure if it was appropriate for the site. I remember when I was younger I used to count how many times they dove off the cliff before the boat passed. For what it cost to make the ride you would think they could tape a little more than a 15 second clip.

PrinceAndysMom - Just wondering if there is anyone else out there who loves this ride as much as I do.

OMG YES! I know there was rumor of turning into a 3 Calerbos (sp...sorry) themed attraction. I hope that rumor died. I love this ride...my family always start WS with Mexico and we run directly to the line for El Rio Tiempo. It being one of my favorite rides and Mexico being my favorite WS pavilion.

My wife and I love to eat at the San Angel Inn for dinner. We love the atmosphere in the temple. The night sky, the lights, & the candles. What we love most is the fact that we can see the boats sail by while we eat at the rivers edge. After dinner we love to take the relaxing boat ride and thus far have never waited more than 1 minute to board. It's very relaxing and the themeing is great. After the ride, we love looking at some of the shops (especially the glass/cyrstal shop). I wouldn't say that it's my favorite ride in the world as a whole, but it certainly is my fav country. </TD></TR><TR UNSELECTABLE="on" hb_tag="1"><TD style="FONT-SIZE: 1pt" height=1 UNSELECTABLE="on">

Has anyone found the lyrics to the song in the ride? I just listened to it on WDW's web site and for the first time realized it was in English (:brick: ) but still was only able to make out "Hola mis amigos, it's fiesta time for you" and then something about "singing in Acapulco" in the middle of the song.

And, thankfully for the ride, Jose (of Three Caballeros fame) means those three probably will not take over the ride, because not only are the other 2 almost unknown to the general public, but I think Jose is actually supposed to be Brazilian! Though he may be Colombian or Argentine...

Combining a South American bird, an American bird(Donald), and a Mexican bird in a ride that is supposed to be about Mexico would be terribly insulting. (Imagine the outcry!)

Listens to the mp3;-)

(Two guys singing)
Welcome mis amigos to friendly mexico
to the land of fiestas, there everywhere you go
Listen to marimbas and mariachis too
playing latin rhythms and serenading you.

Come join the crowd, the music's good and loud
the air is full of song, so come and sing along because
in mexico, when people smile at you,
there's just one thing to do, you join the fiesta tooooo.

Hola mis amigos its fiesta time for you
in the spanish puebla and in (conteco) too
(there's a copotio you love to......)
swing in alcopolco with anyone you meet
join in the fun, it's here for everyone
(some spanish I can even begin to understand)
there's much to see, there's great festivity
come down too late at night, the fiestas a delight.

(group sings)
Welcome mis amigos to friendly mexico
to the land of fiestas, they're everywhere you go
isten to marimbas and mariachis too
playing latin rhythms and serenading you.

Come join the crowd, the music's good and loud
the air is full of song, so come and sing along because
in mexico, when people smile at you,
there's just one thing to do, you join the fiesta tooooo.

So long happy people, we hate to see you go
hurry back amigos, to friendly mexico
Come on back to (pasco), to alcopolco too
pretty senioritas and charros wait for you

We'll meet again, in tropical cancun
in charming (las habla), or maybe in (some city) because
in mexico when folks leave now and then
they never say "goodbye", it's "Till we meet again!"

Anything in ( ) was something I had to take a guess at because it was either A. In spanish which I'm not very good at spelling or B. The recording is older so they're speaking english but I can't make it out. If anyone happens to speak it or knows what words I'm missing let me know. If you need the mp3 and think you can decipher it, you can IM me in Instant Messenger at Jim2386 :sohappy: There is also a part completely in spanish in the song, but I can decipher enough that I believe it's just one of the above versus (or all of them) just sung completely in spanish.

This ride is like the best kept secret at EPCOT. Until the original poster, posted this thread! LOL... I kid, I joke!

We love that you can get right on this ride, and it kinda reminds us of the Blue Bayou restaurant on Pirates of the Carribean at Disneyland.

We love the fireworks and the merry-go-round thing. FOrtunately for those of you that have this as your favorite ride, you dont have to worry about lines.

Why couldnt they keep Soarin' a secret like this one?

I also love this ride. I remember in the early 90s and late 80s when there was a line for it and still it wasn't so bad because the themeing of the 'indoor village' was cool to look at.

As a little kid that nighttime sky indoors while it was still sunny outside fascinated me.

I also agree that this is kind of WDWs version of the Blue Bayou in PotC in Disneyland which is also nice.

Call me crazy but after years of PotC in WDW, I love DLs version much more.

Mexico is still my favorite pavillion in World Showcase.

Hey Tink!

The DSNYKID agrees! PotC in DL is way better.... thanks for noticing my comparison between Small World Mexico and PotC DL.

I always do this ride every year. It's delightfully retro and very soothing. I hope they don't update it any time soon. It's not that I don't like the 3 Caballeros...It's just that I enjoy this ride too much to want it to change.

Sincerely,

I think for me its not so much the ride itself, but the entire Mexico pavillion. I alwsy get goose bumps when I walk into that pavillion as though I have just been warped thousands of miles to a small village in Mexico. Call me crazy, but the visual effect inside that pavillion was done to perfection and has withstood the tests of time, they pulled it off very well. I just love walkin in that pavillion and standing around and taking in the atmosphere, its so relaxing. Then you have El Rio which is a bonus to the already amazing atmosphere.

I never visit Epcot without a visit to the Mexico pavillion for a Churro, a leisurly stroll thru the pavillion, and a ride on El Rio.

I love this ride because it is original and I think the fireworks on the ceiling are so neat. Also, the thing I always laugh about is in the first temple room where they sort of gloss over the fact that they sacraficed people during this time. But I think it is a great ride and must go on it every time were are there. I find it a nice relaxing time in the a/c with no waiting to get on the ride.
