Eddie Sotto's take on the current state of the parks (Part II)

I thought this was fascinating. A very early example of color photography, being put to the test in the streets of early 1900s Paris (reading the comments makes it sound like 1912-1914 or so). The photos are high enough quality that many of them don't look older than the 1990s. The result is a window into the Paris of a century ago.

Was wondering if you had seen this. I am curious if Disney research has other customers beside the theme parks, seems they are always showing cool developments but they don't always end up in parks.

Edit: Link to article where I found Video - http://www.techspot.com/news/50891-disney-teaches-humanoid-robot-to-play-catch-and-juggle.html

The ability for an AA play "catch" was a central aspect to our letting the guests "feed" the aliens in the off world "petting zoo" area of the proposed, but not built SciFi Zoo attraction for TDL. That trick was develop at Stanford University using infrared sensing.

Everyone is up in arms about "Escape from Tomorrow" being illegally made in WDW, but virtually no one has seen a film now on YouTube which I participated in with some CM's from the JC. A parody on the SNL series on MR Bill, shown at a DL CM party only once, called the "Banana Ball" in 1978. Shot with a Sankyo Home Super8 Sound Camera. This was made with permission from the park. Even boarding and stopping rides to shoot during operation, all in the name of boosting CM morale. Getting Alice to kick the puppet was not in the script. Courtesy JC'er Jeff Rhoads and Starring ex CM Jim McCaffrey. I just held the camera. It could use restoration but I don't think UCLA or the Academy is listening. Enjoy.

If it's a zoo wouldn't they have to catch in their mouth? :) That could be fun! What would you "feed" them?

We were just discussing world's fairs a few pages back and the ride systems, etc. Here's a fun "then and now" photo article on the NYC site that hosted them. It would be great to kickstart a new "lost world's fair" on the same site and bring some of those shows back and add new ones.

Thanks! That post at Imagineering Disney got me on my NYWF64 kick again. Here's a great set of the Ford pavilion that Disney did the show for. There are some very interesting photos. The thought of those full-size cars moving around on their own is pretty crazy. I guess they did bump into each other from time to time which kept the restoration crews busy during the off hours. There's even a couple photos of the area where they detailed the cars between the unload and load areas.

The intro segment on this is classic. Who ever thought of giving Walt Disney a riding crop prop when interacting with the dinosaurs!!! He does a great job. I have a hard time believing this was all scripted -- some of it had to be ad-lib. Again - more about the Ford pavilion.

I love the background music that plays. It's good to see the MAPO crew immortalized in the footage too. Great episode and Walt is really good in it.

I like the part where Walt is walking through the MAPO shop and the crew is "working" on different parts of the dinosaur. One guy even looks like he is polishing the skin with a rag. It's staged but very cool.

Eddie, I don't know if you had any "must-sees" when you went to work for WDI. To me, seeing some of this type of work going on would be at the top of my list. I would also get lost in the archives of all the old projects and you would never see me again for days...!

Where are those people's wristbands??!! Perhaps that entrance is for people who have "immediate needs"!

This is thanks to Jim Hill. I think it shows the Ford Pavilion's upper level.

It's too bad they never brought this back to Disneyland in its entirety. I guess we were pretty lucky to get three out of the four NY World's Fair shows: Carousel of Progress, It's A Small World, and Great Moments with Mr. Lincoln. When you think about it, Ford actually split off into two attractions: the PeopleMover, and the Primeval Diorama.

Interesting indeed. Thanks for that. Am I the only one who sees stylistic similarities to the redesigned Test Track? (funny since it is competitors too)
