Gee, who ever saw his thread devolving so quickly.....

You can always tell the relative newbies by their willingness to debate ECV usage, refillable mugs, or other controversial topics. That, or they are just gluten for punishment.

Aw man, I am so late to this party! Well, I hope that I brought enough refreshments for everyone.

My personal view is if you don't like the fact that there are strollers at Disney World, then you shouldn't go. Either that, or just deal with it.

Oh yes we live in a world of snowflakes both adult and child and thanks for proving that to us all . As to your comment that Disney world would be empty if there were no strollers while I think non obnoxiously large strollers are fine you are dead wrong I know tons of kids who are not toddler age walking around Disney. Sorry unless your child has some sort of disability children over the age of 6 should not be riding in strollers. I often think it is due in part to the parents trying to make it easy on them more than a child that old needing to be pushed around all day.

Back to the topic at hand...

I believe the ECV rule is because some of the bus lifts cannot safely accomodate larger ECVs. Unfortunately the drivers don't know this until they start to load them, so they get them half way loaded only to find out they have to take them off and call for different bus with the appropriate lift. This obviously slows down everyone in the bus queue and makes for very long days for the drivers, judging by the attitudes of some people posting here. I witnessed this situation twice personally a few years ago.

Those of you who complain about the wheelchairs and ECVs should spend a few weeks in one like I did. Its certainly not fun, or convenient, or even comfortable. Be thankful that you're not using one and just continue about your business.

I didn't say it would be empty, but it certainly wouldn't be able to maintain it's business. The majority of folks that come to Disney (and stay on property), have young children. It's not up to you, me or anyone else to decide how old they need to be to not be in a stroller.

i dont get why they dont just have some transportation specifcally for these people, all other cities do. Would help the lines, ease tempers, and those with special needs wouldnt have to put up with us people who wait in line. Just because you have a scooter doesnt mean you cant wait. simply put, Give a number of buses just for this need and alleviate all the hassle.

Because logistically it would not work.. How would Disney know when someone at one of the resorts or theme parks needed one of these special vehicles? I jut do not understand why people let what other people do bother them, especially while they are on vacation... Relax ....

My beef is the people that get on the buses with people with disabilities. Okay, I know it sounds bad, but hear me out. I understand that the people with disabilities NEED the assistance. I could understand one or two people getting on with the people with special needs, but when you have 5 or more people getting on with one person with special needs, my blood begins to boil. I waited in line with my two sons, holding the younger one, for almost an hour one evening and I counted TWELVE people get on with one special needs person. It was the difference between me and my family getting on the bus and having to wait an additional 15 minutes with two kids under, at the time, the age of 7.

Ultimately, for me, it all comes down to planning. If you are going during peak season, expect a longer wait, especially at the buses. If you are staying at a value resort, again, expect a longer wait. IMO, the higher the cost of the resort, the lesser the wait due to people not preferring to pay the higher prices. So if you don't like to wait in line, especially for transportation, you have to make the proper preparations. We have driven to WDW the last two trips, so we bit the bullet and paid to park. It was definitely worth the cost.

Sorry for the length.

So what you are saying is that if anyone has special needs or is in need of wheelchair or EVC they should not bring more than 2 other guests with them?

Ok, so to sum up...

ECV- The big ones that the buses weren't designed to carry will no longer be allowed on.

There ARE folks who take advantage of the ECV's and the percieved perk's that come from riding in one. The problem is we don't know who is legit and who isn't, so we have to just accept them all, and either smile and let it go, or grumble quietly. BTW, folks who do take advantage of the ECV's and who loudly talk about it, should experience having a real disability for a day or two so they can gain some new insight.

Strollers- Disney is for kids, get over it. Stop buying strollers that are larger than you need. If your kid CAN walk, but can't keep up with YOU, then you need to reconsider who you are doing this for. I work with kids and can tell you, like any animal, they will give you warning signs that they are tired, hungry, and done for the day. Pushing them beyond that point, whether in a stroller or not, is going to cause them to lash out and bite.

People coming down with infants are either doing it for themselves or the other children/family members with them. We need to not judge them, and they need to stop pretending it's for the kid that slept through most of the trip.

No what I am saying is that larger parties shouldn't be able to send the whole group along to the front of the line. I went one year with my entire family (20 people) and my mother in law needed the EVC. My sister in law and my niece got on the bus with my MIL and the rest of us waited in line. We all decided it wasn't fair for 20 people to get on the bus ahead of all those people waiting in line for one person.

why do people ride on them , a congestive heart failure ? overweight ? a walk may do some good . My 9 year old has a heart problem and we have to keep up with her , and yet we dont get head of line privilege on getting on a bus . Yet the same people on scooters are downing a bacon double cheeseburger at Cosmic Rays with a Large coke and fries and a brownie for desert .
:hammer:

but come on...does every 400 pound person at WDW have a real disability? I am especially suspicious when there is a couple who are both extremely overweight zipping around the parks together...so they both have the same invisible disability?)

I would like to see something done with the scooter issue. It is getting worse and worse each year. I know some people actually need them and that is fine but I think there are a lot of lazy people using them too just so they don't have to walk and gethe front of lines. Disney needs to find a way to fix that problem.

If obesity is a disability...they better start making more handicapped parking spots...

Not passing judgment, but what does this have to do with the discussion in the least?

No, I don't see anybody passing judgment here, do you?
