Earth Globe rehab

I spoke briefly with some entertainment managers last night at Epcot and they told me that the Earth Globe was going down for three weeks in January. He said that it would get an updated video system. I didn't think to ask what they would do to fill the abscence? :hammer:

I did ask if there would be a new show for the "25th" (without specifying Epcot) -- his response was that nothing was official yet . . .

If they somehow still do Illuminations without it, I'll be thrilled! The globe is my least favorite part of the show.

I *really* hope they don't cancel Illuminations for those weeks!

If you ask me, I hope it is the end of the globe as we know it. Wherever I stand you can't even see it and even if you can see it, it's still a really boring 1o minutes of globe time.

Whatever happened to the old Illuminations before the millemium tooks its place over Epcot? :brick:

I'm going in mid-February so I'll be able to see it when it comes back. I like the globe and the effect it has on the show, but I agree that those long video scenes are a little too looong.

How can they do that. RoE is my favorite fireworks show there. Without the Globe it will be the end of the world as we know it.

OK heres a fun idea.....

No Globe...... More Fire Barge

At least till the world comes back. Just a thought :lookaroun

Did you get a chance to see ROE last year without the Inferno Barge. IMHO it was actually better. The sometimes blinding light for the huge flames took away from all the lighting effects and there was alot less smoke during the show.

I think it will be a big loss without the globe and lets hope they don't add more propane.

Are you saying that no matter where you are you can't see the globe at all, or you can't see what's being broadcast on it? Either way I've never had a problem with either.

I suppose I'm in the minority because I despise the part where the globe moves to the center. Its mostly a 5 minute snoozefest to me. I've always found it hard to make out what was happening on the globe. IMO the show could be so much better if they did more during that part... I always imagined this conversation:
"hey, we got this globe! Lets use it!"
"ok, but let's keep it off to the side, then move it to the center! It will chew up a good amount of time so the show will last longer!"
"Just move the globe to the middle?"
"Yah"
"Err, should we do something else? Sounds kind of boring"
"Hmm ok.. put some flares on the water.. that'll KEEP THEM DROOLING!"
"EXCELLENT!"

Good news

I am glad they are going to refurb the globe. I like the "intermission" as the globe treks to its spot and then unfolds part of the story. it gives the smode a change to clear for the next round of fireworks. On nights there the wind is calm the level of smoke would be horrible without the break.

I don't know about anyone else, but omg I was there for the laser show without the fireworks on the 4th of july and WOAH....I loved that!! It was nothing but lasers bouncing back and forth lol.

Here's an idea....LESS GLOBE MORE PERIMETER FIREWORKS!! =D Sorry, I love those so much. lol!

I think 360 fireworks would be a great addition....

My guess is that they are going to be adding something during the part of the show when the globe is moving towards the center of the lagoon because it would be really really boring if you just awkwardly stood there with music but nothing happening.

I have seen the show a very minimal amount of times...I am usually not at Epcot that late. The last time that I did, it was freezing!
