Well, I don't think that the Super Bowl is in the bag. I think it's going to be a close, hard-fought game, no matter who wins. Of course, being from just outside Boston originally, I'm pulling for the Pats, but if the Eagles win, I will of course congratulate them on a great game that they deserved to win. Hopefully, there are Eagles fans out there that will congratulate the Pats on a good game if the Pats win, but I know one person here that will likely go insane if the Eagles lose. But I won't name and fish, er, names. ;)

I've finally got it! The Pats are the New Jersey Devils of the NFL. That is the perfect comparison. They win, yes, but boy are they boring.

Did you see media day today? OMG! The contrast between both teams was hilarious. The Patriots, the most boring team in the league, vs the Eagles, quite possibly the most flamboyant team in the league. The NFL Network had Simeon Rice as a reporter following all of the action. He was having so much fun with the Eagles, practically all of them were a bunch of characters. Then it was the Patriot's turn, Rice had the funniest look on his face. It was like going from a party to a meeting. He was at Tom Brady's booth and just dying of boredom. He went "Ugh, no wonder they win a lot, they have no personality. Man, this is boring! *sigh* I can't hang with these cats, where are the Eagles?"

Of course there are and i'll be one of them. The Pats are one helluva team. And if they end up winning 3 out of the last 4 Super Bowls they should be congratulated. But hopefully us Eagles fans will finally get a chance to celebrate. Should be a tough hard fought game. Both teams match up very well. I also hope come game time I can still get 7 living in the Philly area.

Absolutely! If the Patriots win, it will be a great, historical achievement. I think the Eagles have a very good team (many people seem to forget that, if Andy Reiad hadn't pulled all his starters in the last two games, they'd have likely been a 15 win team), so if the Patriots beat them, I'll have nothing but respect for them.

I hope the Eagles win but I think the Patriots are a GREAT team, and if they win, that will be all the more reason to believe so.

Here's something really interesting:

The Eagles regular season record over the past 4 years:

48-16

The Patriots regular season record over the past 4 years:

48-16

I didn't check all the other teams, but I'm willing to bet no other teams in the AFC or NFC come close to that over that time period.

When's the last time 2 teams who have been so strong for so long have matched up in the Super-Bowl? Has it ever happened?

This is the ultimate matchup between two great teams who are solid at every position and have two of the best coaching staffs in the NFL. This is one of the best, most interesting matchups in the history of the Super-Bowl, but reporters seem too interested in stupid details like practice turf, Freddie Mitchel, TO's ankle to really report how intersting this match-up is.

I'm really sorry I read the anti Philly viewpoint. If this would have been one of those tongue in cheek piece's I wouldn't care. But yet AGAIN some idiot decide's to just bash Philly and rehash things that have been reported over and over and over. I won't address everything this bozo said but let me try to set the record straight on a few things:

1. The Santa Claus thing: since no reporter outside of Philly has ever actually tried to find out why he was booe'd here's your answer: he barely did any of the things you would expect a Santa Claus to do at an appearance and most importantly HE WAS LOADED !!!!!!. Many old timer's that were there have called the local sports talk station and stated that as fact.

2. Michael Irvin: Yes fans applauded, not really going to try and defend it BUT, he tortured and taunted us for a long time and at first it was just kind of a Nelson Muntz type of ha-ha. When it was realized how serious the injury was the applauding STOPPED !!!!! I hated Irvin when he played (and every Cowboy for that matter) but if I had the chance to sit and have a beer with him and talk I would.

3. Throwing batteries: uh, it happened 1 time and Philly is NOT THE ONLY place that's thrown batteries.

4. Kobe Bryant: Bryant brought this on himself. When asked about his Philly roots he didn't want to talk about them because he considers himself an L.A guy. Even tho he's a Laker, Bryant was still highly regarded as a native son until that brilliant comment. Who needs ya, you ingrate.

5. Schmidt: Schmidt'y (and he has ADMITTED THIS HIMSELF) wasn't always the most fan friendly, warm fuzzy feeling kinda guy. But Philadelphians will still debate you all nite as to why he's the all time best 3rd baseman.

If the Birds end up winning the Super Bowl and a bunch of knuckleheads get out of hand, it will be blown out of proportion about how were such bad fans. Well guess what, IT HAPPENS IN EVERY FREAKIN CITY.

I am so sick of this let's bash Philly garbage reporters decide will make a good story. It's old and tired.

And 1 final thought (at least in this post): Pick a sport, any sport, we know just as much about that sport as any other town.

I agree. I"m so sick of people bashing us when they don't know us! They just hear about a group of fans that did stupid things and then claim that we are all stupid fans.

ON ANOTHER NOTE..........

HELP!!!!!!!!!!!!

I'm in charge of a big pep rally on friday at the school that I teach at. Anyway, I asked for ideas before on here - loved the competition idea, scaled it down, and my principal didn't like it and threw it out. I had a connection to former-eagles to come speak, but that fell through. I tried to get local highschool cheerleaders, or others and the principal didn't like that either.
So now all we have are songs to sing. and maybe 2nd and 3rd grade cheerleaders. (yippee)

Does anyone have any of the new Eagles songs - birdheadz or put your hands up, etc. that were made for this year? There's a birdheadz cd.....i'm hoping someone has it! or mp3's from it! help!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Know any radio stations that play eagles songs and about what time they play them???????
AHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH
stupid principal.
Thanks!

Dammit! You know how many times I've heard people say "Michael Westbrook" this week? Gah! Some Boston radio station even said "Westbrook is overrated. He was horrible with the Redskins."

:veryconfu :veryconfu :veryconfu

Stupid people! His name is Brian Westbrook, not Michael Westbrook! He never played for Washington! He's always been an Eagle!

Some Eagles fans are mortgaging their homes to go to the Super Bowl. I hear people talking about how that's crazy. People on the outside, those who were not raised into this, have not lived this, can't truly understand what the Eagles mean to Philly. The Eagles ARE Philadelphia. Our hopes and dreams, who we are as a city, who we are as a people, we hold in the Eagles, much more than any other team. It's not the Phillies, not the Sixers, not the Flyers. It's all about the Eagles. What they go through, we go through, the highs and the lows. Who the Eagles are is we are. It's not just the Eagle players who are playing the Super Bowl, all of us are. This is not a game. This is a fight to define ourselves. This means the world to us. For the first time in my life, I want to look at us, at this city, and see us as winners.

In all fairness, neither side was really very accurate with everything they said. I'm sure the anti-Boston side was right about how Philly fans are long suffering, but he's wrong about Boston not knowing that we had a football team between 1985 and 2001. Trust me, if you had been around the people up there during that time, you would know that. Just as it would be known that a lack of fan support had nothing to do with the proposed move to Hartford, CT. That was a ploy that Bob Kraft, the owner, had in place in order to make sure he could get the assistance on improving the infrastructure around the area where he was building Gillette Stadium. He was willing to put up the cash to build it, but he wanted the State to see about taking care of the roads in the area to make sure they could handle the increased traffic and give people that held luxury box and season tickets an alternate access so they wouldn't get caught in the regular traffic. And oh yeah, we actually do know who David Patten is and that he wears #86 on his Patriots jersey.

Of course, adding to the end of "Long suffering, ever-faithful..." the phrase"punch-you-in-the-throat-if-you-dare-wear-a-Deion-jersey-within-10-blocks-of-where-the-Vet-once-stood,
really helps to dispel the notion of Eagles fans being a bunch of violent freaks. Now please realize, I am not calling them that, but since part of the problem you were having with the anti-Philly article was them saying something along those lines, please realize that this is part of where it comes from. Instead of arguing a "Yes-you-are, no-we-aren't" on this whole thing, can we just agree that both cities have idiots that show up at games, do something stupid, and then give the rest of the normal fans in our cities a bad name? I mean, I went to the Pats/Dolphins game in Foxboro on Dec 7th, 2003. It was the game where there had been two feet of snow that weekend and almost none of the stadium was shoveled out. There were Pats fans where I was sitting that were throwing snowballs at Dolphins fans the whole game and then trying to get the Dolphins fans tossed out by security if they retaliated in any way. When I spoke to someone that went to a Pats/Dolphins game in Miami who was a Pats fan, I was told that he had all sorts of crap thrown at him and all sorts of insults hurled his way. I know that I don't act like this when I go to games and I'm sure you don't either. Heck, odds are the guys that wrote those two articles actually told each other what they were going to write. If you look at the anti-Philly article, he mentions a colleague of his that talked about Jeff Stone and of course in the first paragraph of the anti-Boston article, Jeff Stone's name pops up. So instead of taking this stuff personally, take it as two writers from different cities that probably got together and tried to out-do each other.

Remember, in the end it's just a game, one team will win, one will lose and if the game is as good as it looks like it will be then football fans should all be happy.

Regarding the classification of Eagles fans:

As thinking people with an understanding of history, we all understand that the classification of groups of people based on the actions of a small number of said people is not only ignorant, but dangerous.

Consider for a moment two people on this thread who are two of the biggest Eagles fans you will ever find: TiggerBW (Bonnie) and MerHearted (Vince).

Bonnie is a polite, well spoken, elementary school teacher. Vince is a thin, young, (student?graduate?) at an Ivy League University with an advanced degree in (micro?)Biology who fantasizes that he's a mermaid.

Neither of them look like this:

eagles_fans1.jpg

Yet their passion and allegience to the team are unquestionable. Where are they in these descriptions of Eagles fans we keep hearing? If they don't fit the stereotype, do we just exclude them?

Any "journalists" who feel they have the right/obligation to look down their nose at Eagles fans based on ignorant generalizations can. . .

EAT MY ________ !!!!!:p

If, for some reason, people feel the need to compare Eagles fans, as a group, to other fans, I think one can do so with the following statement:

Eagles fans are football fans . . . BUT MORE SO!!

To illustrate my point, consider the following lists of words/phrases:

a. Quiet b. Loud
a. Politically correct b. Politically incorrect
a. Champagne b. Beer
a. Think with head b. Think with heart
a. Polite b. Rude
a. Sober b. Drunk
a. Caviar b. Cheesesteaks
a. Delicate b. Tough

Now I think most of us would agree that the 'b.' list is closer to describing Eagles fans than the 'a.' list . . . BUT . . . wouldn't the 'b.' list also describe football fans, in general, better than the 'a.' list?

To horribly butcher the speech from Animal House:

If we are to hold all eagles fans accountable for the actions of a few, then don't we also have to hold football, in general, accountable? And if football, in general, is to blame, isn't that an indictment of our entire society? Well say what you like about Eagles fans, but I, for one, am not going to sit here and listen to you badmouth the United States of America!

Go to WMMR.com, under the picture of Jevon Kearse and Pierre, look for the link that reads: Philly guys big game hits, click on that link, it will bring up a bunch of songs done by Joe Conklin. Eagles fans in Jacksonville is a riot and my favorite one. Enjoy.
