Do you have the the Disney Dining Experience card (recently renamed Tables in Wonderland)? I'm not a fan of free dining (too much food), so I use this card for dining discounts. It's better than nothing.

I am a DVC member and i just got the free dinning e-mail.:slurp: I think i am out of luck. Can someone tell me if i can use the free dinning code?

Depends on what you mean by "out of luck." You can use the code if you want, as long as you pay for the rest of the package and save your points for another day. :D

The free dining promotion ticks me off too. First of all because it homogenizes the dining choices everywhere, and second because I never seem to be able to use them, being that I'm also DVC. But then again, the free dining promotions often seem to happen at times where I wouldn't be able to go anyway.

Look at this way, DVC affords you a flexibility to get vacations at incredibly good rates when it's convenient for you. Much of the time the promotions Disney offer require you to travel during inconvenient times, kids being in school or maybe a bad time where you can't get off work easily. And if you do take advantage of the offers, it's more crowded and hard to get reservations everywhere you want to go. So rather than wait for really good promotions and then having to strike while rooms are still available and make sure you get your ADRs as early as possible, your trips can be more flexible, on your schedule, not theirs. My wife's a teacher, and we live in NJ where school usually starts AFTER Labor Day, so the only "convenient" time for us to go (when WDW isn't packed to the gills like on Easter or Xmas) is the second half of August. Last few times, our vacations ended a few days after free dining began, and the problems getting reservations increases exponentially during those days. I'm hoping the free dining promotions either go away, or if that basic dining plan becomes the free dining for most folks, I'll be happy, it might free up the sit-down restaurants some.

Also consider this: I don't know how many people are in your party, or their ages. But if you're say, a family of 4 who are all over the age of 9, you can always use the free dining promotion for a few days at a value or moderate if you like (don't let DVC spoil you TOO much), then move to a DVC resort for the balance of your vacation. The price for a moderate will only be a few dollars more per night than the price of 4 adult dining plans per night. And if you can't make your stay longer, you can either your stay up between a moderate and a DVC and either use the points to stay in a bigger DVC unit, OR bank those points to use later. It can still afford you an opportunity to enhance your future trips, though if you don't have 4 people eating as adults in your room, (OR if you don't like switching resorts), it might not be worth it. And if you decide to take advantage of the dining promotion this way, make sure you arrange to be at the moderate resorts on the weekend, to stretch your points farther

They have our money already. They do not need to offer us any perks to come down. Slappy Magoo did have a good idea though about possibly booking at a mod. for the weekend. We have stayed at a mod. for the weekend before just to stretch out our points. DDP never appealed to me though. I like flexibility and there is also not enough snack credits.:)

The offer specifically states that you must purchase a MYW Package in order to get the Dining plan for free. As DVC members arent "purchasing" that particular type of package when booking with points, they are not eligible. If however you choose to book a resort stay and pay for it, then certainly this offer would DEFINITELY apply to you. As others have posted, I think that your family make-up and how you travel and dine are all things to think about before jumping on the Free Dining offer as opposed to just booking the DVC. Belle

This is essentially what I have done. I check in DVC on Sunday, and I had booked an AP rate at a Deluxe for the following weekend to avoid using points for high valued nights. When this came out, I cancelled that AP romm only rate, changed to a Pop package, added a night at WDW, got free food, and have tickets for future use/upgrade. This works well for me cause we will have 4 "adults" in our room.

I called Thursday afternnon and was able to get Le Cellier (sp?), Teppan Edo with the CP Package, and LTT Character Dinner(never have done it before, got to go now or never appearently!)

I have stayed at Pop before and really enjoyed it. I had buyers remorse at first after switch, but I have done the math a few times, and it keeps coming up good. Then I had ... reservations about my reservations, ...but then I thought, Japan, Canada, and my first and last meal at LTT w/ characters... whats not to like, right?
